PLAYER RELEASED.

Would have loved to see his style of football, coming from the country never get to see Players like Rod, just have to trust officials know what they are doing. Also HATE Trial in Wollongong starting at 7.40 No chance of ever seeing a trial

Doesn't necessarily mean he's been punted for Lovett.

He's probably homesick and gone somewhere closer to home. Why toil away down here when you're zero chance of playing FG here and another opportunity becomes available?

I don't think Belmore is that much closer to Home…

Gone to the Dogs...

Bulldogs Official Statement
The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs have signed former Wests Tigers lock Rod Griffin on a one year deal.

Born in Papua New Guinea and raised in Atherton, Queensland, the 30-year old arrives at Belmore with a wealth of experience in the game.

The newest member of the Bulldogs playing roster has played nine Tests for Papua New Guinea, including the 2008 World Cup and 2010 Four Nations tournament.

In addition, he represented Queensland under 17s and 19s, with new team-mate Greg Eastwood and was a member of the winning Ipswich Jets side that won the Queensland Cup in 2015, alongside current Bulldogs player Josh Cleeland.

“Rod’s a no-nonsense forward with a strong carry and a good offload. He comes to the club looking for an NRL opportunity and will provide plenty of depth and experience to our squad,” said Bulldogs - Head of Recruitment, Warren McDonnell.

Meh, either way he wasn't getting a run with us, may as well look elsewhere.

You guys may be right - but I remember reading that Paulo's incident was in 2015 and since then he had moved from Sydney etc, also the courts only fined him $300 and loss of driver's licence for 1 year.
Somehow, Lovett's recent Coke verdict, on the back of Barba's whole debacle, might put a bit more pressure on Greenberg to take a stronger stand. Will be interesting to see what does happen.

McDonnell signing his first Tiger.

I liked Rod, good man, honest and talented toiler. With the young props we have coming through that also need opportunities he probably wouldn't have got a look in, even with injuries. I hope he gets to play in the NRL at least once in his career.

Got the feeling from listening to Greenberg interviewed on radio that they will come down hard on NRL players who misbehave and break the law - I expect Lovett will get an appropriate punishment and the WTs be forced to punt him.

Paulo will miss two games and do community service according to the news for his behaviour! 😱pen_mouth:

Yep Paulo suspended from round 1, the 9s & All Stars game + required to complete community service. For common assault & reckless driving. I'm not sure exactly what "common assault" refers to but this punishment doesn't seem too harsh to me. Lovett might still get off lightly yet.

Griffin is the last to go of the 3 'no value' signings of 2016\. Jessie the 7s union player was the first, Mcconachie 'the Jake Mamo belter' was 2nd and now Griffin. Got nothing from any of them

True. Getting experimental paid absolutely no dividends.

I'm sad to see Rod go without at least having been given at least a game in the NRL side,he is a hard worker and resilient man….he at least stuck by the club, gave his best in State Cup and presented himself very well off the field...its just a shame that so many have much more potential than Rod but seem to take it for granted..all the best in the future Rod your hard work will not go unnoticed...

The tigers were smart there. He would have been a great influence during preseason. May have been part of the bargain with rod.

Seems like a top bloke. Wish him all the best at the dogs.

Are we now under the cap?

Nooooooooooo…...............

Apparently we are under now

Not sure how that could happen, I would have thought RG would have been on a second tier contract and if he was on a top 25 contract it would have to be replaced by another player and you would think his contract value would be at the lower end of the scale.

Anyway let's hope your right and our 2017 cap has been sorted without shedding any more players

How does any club get this close to the season start before finding out that they are over the cap and have to can players?
Do they have their accounts done by a Year Three schoolkid

RG wants the chance to play 1 FG game in his career. Releasing him has zero, nada, none effect on the nrl cap

Is it a possibility there could have been some reshuffling of too 25 or is this set? For example, could someone like suli being added to top tier, Lovett dropped out of 25 with salary now against 2nd tier, potentially putting us over he 2nd tier cap? Hence griffins release to balance out second tier cap?

Not exactly sure how it works but thought maybe there had been some shuffling due to new contracts and performance at training etc?

How does the NRL register an upgraded contract for Suli if we're over the cap ?

Unless of course the over the cap rumour was fake news …

Maybe they are given to round one to have the books in order??? Although I was under the impression you could only register contract when your cap was in order
