Player signings around the Grounds

Manly seeking medical retirement clearances from NRL for Brett Stewart and Steve Matai.

Yeah this whole "medical retirement" thing is BS, an absolute can of worms. Did Watmough end up getting written off under this by Parra, I can't remember hearing the outcome.
Matai has been seemingly playing busted for 6 or 7 years now, he most definitely had his neck/shoulder issues when Manly would have re-signed him to his latest contract, they knew he was damaged goods and rolled the dice on him. Stiff s#%# there Manly.
As far as Stewart goes, if being an inbred constitutes being "medically retired" then Shannon Boyd and Blake Fergo are certainties in a few years.
Go away Manly, you took a chance and lost.

Milford is overhyped IMO. Electric running game but his passing, kicking and defence arent anything to write home about. He is looking very bulky judging by the 9's, if his acceleration and step start to desert him he will be fairly ordinary. Brisbane may well have forked out plenty for an also-ran ala Ben Barba. Of course if they have, they will persuade another player such as Connor Watson to be "homesick" and sign him up instead for minimum wage allegedly.

Likely to sign one of their upcoming juniors though.

Teddy & Sirro are as tight as you can get, great mates
I wonder if Manly might make a play for him, and Simona

Donkeys have offered Milford $2.7M over 3years

He'll get bigger offers from elsewhere I'd imagine.

You do realise 2.7 M is the book figure only.

I often wonder who Canberra regret losing more

Tedesco or Milford ??

I dunno, I feel like Canberra are probably pretty happy with their roster nowadays. It's actually made me think, as fans we always lose our minds when players we like sign elsewhere but if you're smart about it there are definitely times where you're better off letting a player go rather than overpaying him. How badly do you think the Raiders miss Dugan and Ferguson when they look at their back line now (not to mention the forwards they've been able to sign with the cap room they've saved).

I've said this a lot, but other than someone so bad they don't justify the use of a roster spot, there is literally no such thing as an objectively good or bad player in the NRL - and you can't tell if someone is good or bad unless you know how much cap room they're using. Kevin Naiqama on minimum salary is a bargain. Thurston on $4m a year is an anchor.

NRL rejects Manly Sea Eagles' submission for Brett Stewart's career-ending injury

The NRL has rejected Manly's submission to seek a career-ending injury exemption for Brett Stewart that would have seen the now-retired fullback excluded from the club's salary cap this season.

Fairfax Media understands the NRL didn't believe Stewart suffered a one-off career ending injury, rather it was the toll of years of major knee problems that led to the 31-year-old pulling the pin on his career ahead of the 2017 season.

The NRL is still examining the submission put forward for Steve Matai, who - like Stewart - has been dogged by injuries throughout his career on the northern beaches.

Sensible decision if true but the opposite to what they allowed Parra with Watmough

The answer is Tedesco, however.

They never had Tedesco, never even played a game with them, so Milford is the bigger 'loss'. Though they are doing pretty well with Wighton and Austin so they probably don't regret anything.

What I'm saying is that while Milford > Austin, Tedesco >>>>>>> Wighton.

If they go after Teddy they would have to release the Tommy Turbo, what's the sense in having two top line fullbacks. In the next year or so it will be Tom Trbojevic and Tedesco viaing for fullback in the NSW and Aust sides.

I just hope the Rorters keeps their greedy grubby hands off our Moses, Brooks and Tedesco in the season to come. Uncle Nick has too much money and they certainly don't have a salary cap issue any season.

Saw an interview with Idris last night and certainly wants to start his comeback in the centres. Dropped 11kgs, now down to 114kgs. Love the thought of having a big body running off Moses and then Teddy backing up. Could be a good year if your an outside back at the Tigers.

Think the Rorters have signed Matt Scott as well. They can't have too much money left.

The Roosters have emerged as a surprise contender to snare the off-contract Matt Scott for next season in the hope of boosting their premiership chances.

Roosters officials met with Scott's management late last year and are keen on adding more experience to their pack.

I've got to be a Rooster fan..he sings merrily every morning..You keep supporting the Cocks I say...

Gotta laugh at that first sentence - 'surprise contender' my arse! The Roosters contending for any player of note is never a surprise, it's a certainty!
