Wanda Sandhills – the name alone is enough to strike fear into even the most hardened rugby league player.

Faced by extreme weather conditions, Wests Tigers NRL squad were put through a series of torturous sand hill runs from 7am this morning.

Under the command of NRL High Performance Manager John Skandalis, the squad did a series of group runs before each player was instructed to climb the steepest sandhill four times each.

With each step taken in the heavy sand, the players' lungs were working overtime as a sandstorm swept around them to make it even more painful.

Players were also put through a series of wrestling drills on the beach. It was a tough way to finish week two of pre-season training.
