Players gone!

Snapper the salary cap is a myth. He who believes it and goes by it doesn't win competitions. I also believe it should be changed. Third party payments???

If we are running under the salary cap, that's no reason to go out and spend it until the right player comes along.

And I think that is the difference to years gone by.

Hopefully JT is saving for someone special.

None of the players gone are superstars however they could all play first grade/ Some were even half decent. Now we replace the with next to nothing leaving paper thing depth.

Then I here people on here and people in the media saying Tigers can make the 8 or even the top 4\. I just don't see it at all. I think we could be worse then this season once a few injuries strike.

Our club is very unattractive for any players, Our cap is a mess with lots of senior players who are average to poor on long term deals. I see another 1 or two years of pain before things might turn upwards. We could hit the jackpot with the juniors however you usually need more then that.

I know there are some positive things happening finally about the place. However lets not forget we finished the season a club in turmoil, getting flogged on the field and by the press.

I just think it looks like a hard road ahead without significant reinforcements. Too much pressure on the young blokes to carry plodders

That said , I still think we'll slightly improve on last year (we have to ) . We'll finish 10th or 11th IMO ??

Couldn't agree more with most of that Eddie. I dont necessarily think Wests are unattractive as a club to players looking for a new home; in fact there is so much potential brewing away that I think its the opposite. But the lack of playing depth is just staggering. And we will still continue to carry under-performing highly paid players for a couple of years to come.

Please…... Get Rea???

Ben Murdoch - Played what, 3? Games for Penrith - After the 1st AND 2nd string back rowers were out, Spent most of the year being overlooked for kids!!
Marika - Will go "OK" While he has the best boot in the league kicking to him, Still lazy and still stupid. ps: What good would he be outside Lawrence or Lulia?
T - Never would have made 1st grade here or anywhere else, He's just a bigger, lazier and stupider version of Matt Utai
Fulton - Great clubman, player and somewhat underated... But would he be 1st picked in any other back row in the comp? - I think not.
Pato - Didn't play enough games to rate a mention - Let alone good games...
Thompson - Had a great year, No one was singing his praises last year. When Bodene Thompson is you most damaging back rower... You definitely have a problem!!
Anasta - He has nothing left but heart....
Austin - Is a ball hog with zero kicking game... If he learns to kick and actually pass the ball he would be somewhat of an asset... The only reason anyone thinks he went well, is cos he never actually gave the ball to anyone else. a 6's job is to promote the footy. He has years on Moses and much less talent, Word is, He isn't first option at Canberra....
Gavet - His problems off the field will get the better of him, being out of Sydney won't help. If a guy is no good, he's no good... Simple!!
Farlow - Great reserve grader who's pushing 30...
Did I miss anyone?

We need damaging back rowers and centres, We won't win a comp without them... We just won't!! We won't get them with sponges soaking up our cap.
Get rid of the sponges, keep what you need so you have some money to buy superstars in the positions we are so desperately lacking them in.
Doesn't sound like bad business brains to me at all......

Fair summary batboy. Injuries killed us recently and we seem to have made a few changes there that will hopefully keep the team on the field

Yep the lack of quality depth is the most concerning thing for me, as well. As I mentioned in another thread, the club's continual reliance on the assumed potential of raw youngsters is a big gamble that hasn't really paid off much for us so far. Maybe it will in the future, but meanwhile it's been a bit hard to watch many of the young blokes floundering in first grade, alongside some of the stagnant older players. I just hope the younger guys' careers aren't being ruined by having too much expectancy placed on their shoulders, too soon.

I thought the 'powers that be' would've learned from this mistake by now, and been more aggressive in looking for a couple of quality players to replace the many discarded ones - it's not like they weren't available, even up until recently.

not a bad summation Batboy, however I said earlier that JT in an interview definately pointed out that the backrow and centre is our problem at the moment..I will be surprised if we dont get either of these in the near future, just my opinion but I reckon we will end up with a couple of great players at the start of 2016….

Cmon, guys. You can remember to turn on a light if all you see is darkness!

Now i'm no eternal optimist by any stretch of the imagination, but i see far more positives heading into next season than i have for the past few years.

Not only are we getting our back house in order and hiring proficient s+c coaches we've got a coach with standards and the balls to make the big calls, and the support to do so.

We were still in and around the top 8 towards the end of the season with the bunch of 'rejects' we had, and a numpty coach. A better coach and young players with an extra year of experience and gym work can only see them return fitter, more organised and better than ever.

Yes we have guys who take up too much cap space and if we could get rid of Lawrence, Moltzen and co then we'd have a lot more cash to spend on new guys. We've rightfully upgraded our juniors, and probably paid a tad over market rate, but thats what happens with an unsuccessful club. Players take discounts off their salaries to win premierships, not to come in the bottom four.

We will sign a couple more players, whether they're from the NRL or UK, who knows. We have a lot of strike players coming through the ranks and of our losses Austin is the only one we'll miss, and even that will be minimal. He wasn't a team player and didn't make those around him better. He got the headlines because he kept the ball and went himself, albeit with success. There's value there but someone who can bring out the best in 5-6 players is more valuable than someone who only looks after themself.

To many mentally shot players, to many out of form players chewing up large chunks of salary cap. Hard to see us getting to close to the eight with our present playing group. I said before, you need to mix a few boom kids with plenty of real 1st graders. Also our boom kids are in the key positions on the field, so their odd blunders have a greater effect on the team.

Their will be good times I am sure but we will struggle big time in 2015 without the inclusion of a couple of defensibly strong and experienced backrowers

Have faith my friends,it's not all doom and gloom yet..
JT may surprise us and the playing group could pull their heads in and earn their pay…we are the Wests Tigers and we are not done with yet.....

Definitely! I got us down for the spoon. No depth especially in the forwards and no one replacing the players that have moved on.

Wait until the team's played a few games, before you start preaching doom and gloom BT. Be patient and have some faith in our new coaching staff. 2015 looks promising
