PNG Chiefs discussion

Well..they can’t force him not to go …so you are correct there

They can force PNG to record $1.1m on their cap for him even if they paid him less ..the NRL should have done similar for DCE ..

Anyway …like I said it appears Young is not going there now
Well the NRL can do anything they please in policing the salary cap, but they should not force an opposition's proposed costs onto someone else's salary cap. Terrible idea.

It's a well-established issue - Tedesco, for example, took much less to join the Roosters. Despite the harm it caused us I cannot accept that the "highest bid" thus denotes the actual salary cap value assigned. It heavily incentivises speculative or disingenuous bidding.

And it's easy to prove by hypothetical. Say Perth Bears struggle next year and decide to go all-out for Nathan Cleary for 2028. They offer him $1.7M. Penrith have the cash but they don't have that kind of space under their salary cap.

Therefore the newest or worst or youngest or cheapest roster in the comp can make speculative high-value plays to, if not attain the target player, cause injury to the incumbent side.

The NRL are dealing with some unique circumstances with PNG’s impact on the player market ..personally I don’t have a problem with the “fairness” of them taking this particular approach in these circumstances in respect of what is being reported with Hudson Young …also …the point is that each case be assessed on its own merits .. I wasn’t trying to make a case that the rule shoild apply in all circumstances, although I can see where perhaps originally you could have interpreted my comments that way,,,.you can come up with your hypothetical example , and they can treat that one differently should they choose ..

Speaking of which ..,Any comment about my point of DCE’s salary halving in one year ? He was still an Origin player in 2025 so his form didn’t fall off a cliff

In the modern game Mark Gasniier and his come back to league sparked the fair market price on /in the salary cap shemozzle. Its a woke world and those that squeal the loudest and throw more resources at it will be heard the loudest eventually.
People here sook about the salary cap being out of wack, its not the cap its the 3rd parties - which where capped when 1st introduced ,my belief is its no longer , that distorts the playing field .
Rules are made to be manipulated ,which our club is slow to learn,or under financed to compete
PNG and the leg up they get just reminds me that there is rulz 4 sum ,and not others,
As the years go by this game just gets less appealing
