PNG Team Inclusion

It may also even out the competition placing a heavier premium on the better players at elite clubs forcing their salaries higher giving the better clubs less cap space to defend mid tier players and depth players.

Don't actually think it will affect us too much except for someone like Galvin who could fit right in at the Esplanade.

Who on earth would wanna go and play there?
Theyll be up against it recruiting, established players with families m- I doubt it.
Young single guys just entering the NRL/ fringe players - maybe.
Could be another club for us to feed
They cant be based over there. They wouldnt attract anyone thats on a pathway to NRL currently.

tax free pay from png government for players.
I don't think the other nrl ceo's will be happy with that. It basically means png are playing with an inflated salary cap

if Cleary is on 1.3 million he pays roughly 550k in tax so takes about 800k nett.
in png he takes nett the 1.3 million

PNG could say to a Galvin or whoever play with us and earn tax free dollars.
Apparently team will be based in North Qld and fly into a compound (to be built by u.s. army) to stay and play games

Who would not want to go there @innsaneink,
Might be based in Nth Qld anyway, set 4 life

I dont understand.
It was a cheeky compliment.

We could later invite PNG to become another Australian state. League could spearhead the meeting of cultures and society.

And people might think it’s crime and stuff is out of control, but we could sort that out with a lot of development, economic growth and so forth.

Bicameral legislature, rule of law, Medicare and terrific state education.

We have nothing but opportunity and freedoms to give to the average PNG punter.

I mean it’s only a matter of time before we swallow up NZ. Our similarities are greater than our differences. They will come around eventually.

Had to come back and make a comment.
I think that I correctly advised on this outcome many months ago, and it really has little to do with football.
Purely political it will fundamentally be a hyped version of the PNG Hunters( if based in Pom) and will ensure compliance by a critical regional partner both geographically and financially (mining).
To answer your comment, PNG was virtually a state until Whitlam drop kicked them into independence in the 70s, that they weren’t ready for then, and really are still not today.
The percentage of seats that change hands each election is huge, hence lack of continuity plus major graft and corruption.

Yes, I accept this submission.

That’s why closer links and embracing a more robust political system over time might improve their fortunes.

I have a friend whose dad and hence family suffered at the hands of PNG corruption. Wiped his hands of it after that. Moved to Qld. All the kids have done ok since, hard working souls.

I don’t know if it’s better to be wealthy in PNG or work hard and enjoy a solid and happy family middle class existence on the Sunshine Coast.

Maybe stick to the devil I kind of know, but Qld seems a bit foreign when I visit it for work. Don’t see enough of it. Airport, the train thing, city, train thing, flight back to Sydney. Then the drive home which takes a lot longer than the flight!
