The majority of your responses in this thread appear to include little in the way of 'effort' so I'm not that surprised that you would toss up another dismissive one liner. I know this might take a massive effort but you could always counter the contention that the Labor Party has been a haven for misandrists since the Whitlam years.

Gillard was running for a position on the student council In the early eighties, loudly proclaiming her understanding of women's rights and noting that she was in a lesbian relationship. In between one liners you could have a scout around the web

sure thing buddy. Sorry, occasionally I have work to do and can't write out large slabs of text

http://www.hoax-slayer.com/gillard-lesbian-relationship-hoax.shtml

now you do something for me

show me the part of the Labor Party platform that says 'we hate men' or 'we are committed to marginalising men and eroding their roles in society' or anything at all along those lines.

for the record, of course Labor are using Abbott's unpopularity with women as a political tool. You could argue perhaps they've pushed it a little too far. I know I'm not breaking any new ground when I say in politics, people use weaknesses or even perceived weaknesses against their enemies.

But guess what, he's even less popular with the public than Gillard is, and she is A DISGRACE, or so I've read

That i do agree with Genoshan

**If we bring in Turnbull we will win this in a Qld type landslide**

Having known the member I was talking about from the football field (funnily enough) I knew if he was going to be as hard as a politician as he was footballer he would be fine

One thing is for certain, Abbott can not go to the next election as leader… Its getting a big push up here at the moment and the consensus is Malcolm Turnbull.

Labor has some serious decisions to make also... Right now she is the perfect option as the 'hijacked' Prime Minister, but I'm wondering if Gillard will have the support of her Party and the Independents once Abbott is punted?

I think you guys underestimte how much great segments of the Liberal Party hate Turnbull not to mention what the National Party must think. I don't see Abbott being punted this side of the next election unless he has a "utegate" moment.

Happy, maybe my part about voting for the PM doesnt apply to everyone, but ask 100 people who their local member is, and I would surprised if much more than half know.

I don't know who my local member is, which is the main reason why I don't vote, I'm certain he or she is a brain dead potato regardless.

While I am not right into politics, I have generally voted labour all my life. I always based this on labour being for the working class.

Since Julia took office, I have become disillusioned with the Labour party, commencing with the backstabbing of Rudd. I have said previously that no matter the end result, when a lot of people vote, they are voting for their choice of PM, not necessarily their local member.

Back to my bad taste of labour. For the first time ever, I am leaning towards giving my vote to the Libs. I do not like Abbott particularly, but I have not time for Gillard. If the Libs had a better leader ( yes Turnbull is a better choice ) I would have no hesitation in giving the Libs my vote.

To clarify, I am close to 40 and considering changing votes for the first time ever. I speak to a lot of people in my workplace and the topic comes up regularly. Labour has lost a lot of its voter base due to poor leadership.

Wow…thats so similar to me it aint funny, though the last fed election was the first time I voted for a party other than Labor

Abbott is unpopular with women because of two things.
#1 His religious values with regards to abortion, marriage and some less than reasonable comments made in the past.
#2 The Labor party's insistance that he is a misogynistic pig.

Now I dont agree with his views on abortion, I think they are old fashioned and irrelevant. It is an attitude shared by many of people (including my parents for example) and more education in such matters is in order. They are however his beliefs and he is entitled to them and they do not make him a women hater.

These on-going personal attacks against his character as a man, husband and father with the claims he hates women - the definition of misogyny is pathetic and untrue. This will back fire on Gillard and co as it is very obviously a political ploy that they have agreed to pursue. They cant back out of their claims now. Swan was on Lateline last night and was given the chance by Tony Jones to downgrade the misogynistic charges against Abbott to chauvanism or sexism. He refused and went on the offensive. The problem is that this is a serious charge that must be backed up with more facts than he occasionally abuses the PM in speaker time or that he allegedly punched a wall 35 years ago. Labor are turning Abbott into a victim with their incessant slander of his character and when they had the chance to truly stand up for women on Wednesday through the act of sacking a man who has shown character traits more in line with misogyny than Abbott ever has, they wussed out and not only voted to protect him in a job that is one of the highest in the land, they stood up in parliament and defended him. As they did with Thomson who has been accused of using hookers many times behind his wifes back.

Thomson and Slipper have both shown far worse values and attitudes towards women than Abbott, yet they are protected by the same people who day after day, week after week stand up in parliament and go on television and radio or to print media and do interviews slamming him as a woman hater. There is very little substance to their claims and in my opinion it wont be long before the public wake up to what is happening and truly investigate the matter. When that happens, this so called "handbag hitsquad" will be dead in the water.

Is Tony Abbott a saint? No. Does he act chauvanistic and at times sexist? Yes. Does he hate women? Absolutely not. When he is surrounded by women in his daily life through family and work, a reasonable person can conclude that he cant be this person unless he is a closet rapist or serial killer which there is zero percent evidence of him being. Either way, Labor wouldnt know about it so it just makes their attempts at character sabotage all the more transparent and as I said, this will backfire on them and how.

Nice rant , I don't think he is misogynist , he is more of a

Sexist racist homophobic bigot

Aside from that he is also a religious fundamentalist and has shown in the last that he will allow this to influence the way he votes in parliament .

This alone makes him inappropriate for high office

Also Stryker , sexism is deep seeded in the liberal party

The term " handbag hits quad " is sexist

When ever Kate Ellis speaks in parliament Sophie Mirrabella has been known to call out " here come the weather girl "

Tony Abbott's comments about carbon tax and its effect on the " house wives Australia doing the ironing "

And there is a lot more

It is all indicative of the regressive attitudes and culture with in the coalition

The very same vitriol the ALP have been spewing for years - discredit the man thus discredit the party.

LOL yep they are the only ones guilty of this as the ALP are so 'forward looking' and politically correct.

The Howard government perfected the art of playing the man not the ball… Don't pretend this is some ALP thing

Good grief… People are still arguing about this? Looks like they got the reaction that was intended.

I'm relieved really, it's great to see the ALP and Libs arguing over whether Slipper or Abbott is the bigger sexist rather than debating the small issues like... Oooh I dunno... Policy?

Both parties and the members within are as disingenuous as the other. **_NONE_** of them are saints.

The Party put the man there , so they bear the consequences

Even the women in the liberal party are sexists .

And my comment only relates to the libs , but there is a few exceptions Hockey and Turnbull
Most notably can't think of many more ….

**Society is sexist: Mike Tyson**

Former boxer and convicted rapist Mike Tyson has entered the sexism debate engulfing Australian politics.

Impressed by Prime Minister Julia Gillard's fiery speech to parliament in which she branded Opposition Leader Tony Abbott sexist, Tyson says society is sexist.

"I'm not saying she's (Julia Gillard) right. I'm not saying that I'm on her side, I'm just going by the facts of what history proves, that most males are that way," Tyson told The Sunday Telegraph.

"We can't help that, society told us to be that way. We have to within ourselves overcome that thinking, change that thinking, and then everybody might be on equal terms."

Mr Abbott is a product of a sexist society, Tyson says.

"I can't judge nobody, I have my own history with people and crime and women and everything, so I'm not going to judge him. We have a process of learning.

"That's what we are as people and as time goes on, maybe we'll learn and think differently.

"I'm not saying he's a bad guy … I'm just saying sometimes we get caught up with our society."

Tyson, 46, thinks it's "wonderful" Australia has a female prime minister.

The former champion boxer, who was convicted of rape in the US in 1992, will visit Australia in November for a five-day speaking tour.

He says he's a "changed man" and will be on his "best behaviour" when he arrives in the country.

"You know, you're not going to see me in the strip clubs in Australia, you're not going to see me out in the clubs in Australia. I'm not going to be getting high in Australia.

"I'm just going to be going there and enjoying myself, and then hope the people enjoy themselves as well."
Tyson has been declined a visa to New Zealand.

Never thought I'd ever agree with anything this bloke said, but he is right and he says it well. I think this might back up your argument somewhat too, Rambo.

" Tony Abbott leader of the opposition lynch mob "

Greg Combet

So true , each party used to have one so called attack dog . For years the Liberals had Abbott filling this role , now they have Christopher pine , Scott Morrison , Sophie Mirabella and Abbott all filling the role of the attack dogs ,

And for policy development they have ?

I don't think there has ever been an opposition which has had so little policy

I dont. So why did he ?

As I understand it, when Tuckey was a publican in WA, his method of dealing with troublesome indigenous customers was to hit them with an iron bar. Well that's the story anyway.

Edit - Okay according to the SMH it refers to an actual event where he was convicted. He seems such a delightful and thoughtful man…

Craig Thomson and Peter Slipper are saints compared to that bloke ,

I hate to say this ......and I would not say to his face , but I disagree with Mike Tyson.

I don't think society in general is sexist. I think there is some wretched parts of society which are sexist , and they get more attention then they deserve .

In general , I think that the majority of our society is not sexist .

But I agree that Abbott is a product of his society and that's. what makes him a sexist racist homophobic bigot........His religious fundamentalism in particular would be the biggest contributed this ....... Problem is he is now adult and he should know better
