Alright, I've had just about enough of the meaningless dribble in this thread. As the title says, it's politics - Discuss politics and discuss it rationally (a hard concept for some on here) or this thread closes.

Not sure if this is classed as meaningless dribble , but what has happened in NZ with the PM falling pregnant raises for me an interesting question

The PM found out she was pregnant on the 13th of October and was elected in the 19th of October

Should she have informed the voting public once she was elected that she was pregnant ??

My opinion yes , something that important the voters who voted you in have the right to know

Same as if you had been given news you had possible life ending cancer , the public should be told asap

Most people i know who get pregnant wait at least to they are past the fisrt trimester before making announcements …we had lost 2 children between our 1st and 2nd born due to miscarriage early in the piece....

Don't think it's unreasonable at all fairly normal, I would say...also dont see how being pregnant would effect voters decisions...

I'm seriously sorry to hear to that Geo and we have done the same in regards to waiting 12 weeks before telling people , but do the same rules apply to us that apply to politicians

What if she decided to take maternity leave , there is nothing stopping her

That's why I'm putting it out there

Hopefully she does take maternity leave, she should spend those early months with her child. I don't see why it's a probem, the people of NZ were voting for a party not an individual leader. She's a Prime Minister, not a President. I know some people don't vote that way but they should because there are all sorts of ways a Prime Minister can be ousted whilst sitting - just look at Kevin, Julia, Tony etc.

It could be a hot topic as it will further prove to those who argue that way that women, especially during their child bearing years, should not be in seats of power.
At the very least, it will throw more fuel on the wage gap fire.

I think you need to have some partiality for the leader of the party as well as the party itself

Not sure that came out the way you meant it willow! :roll

I agree you vote for a party not a person, therefore even if she was to take maternity leave the policies and practices should be put in place to cover that leave..

My understanding though is that all parliamentarians went through a medical check before being sworn in to ensure that they are fit for duty. I am amazed it wasn’t leaked before hand!!

If that was Australia the media would of found out before she did. There would of been an immediate challenge and the parliament would of turned into a circus…

Kiwis should be proud.

Can't help to laugh whilst watching the reserves for reserve grade of the government in the background with Qantas' Allan Joyce spruiking their business tax cuts and the reasons for it, including employment. This is the same company that is recording record profits on the back of wholesale employee cuts, has not paid a cent in tax for a few years, will not pay again this year and likely next year as well.

It's easy.

Make a profit, buy a few new Dreamliners and 777's and put yourself in the red.

Pay no tax - they have been doing it for 30 years that I know of.

**"Our country is not based on the Aboriginals. Our country is what it is because of the migrants that have become here," Senator Hanson said.**

I'll just put this here. Pauline Hanson showing her disgust at the amount of time given to indigenous culture during the Commomwealth Games Opening Ceremony. She's certainly said some clangers in her time, but this has to take the cake considering her harsh stand on not wanting Australia to let any more 'migrants' in

Thank God the world can see she is a ranga

Hanson is back where it started, having moved onto Asia for a while, before targeting religious beliefs to suit her political agenda. She is a bigoted fool that also recently sold out on the corporate tax cut for the big end of town, including the protected banks for a meagrely thousand apprenticeships. An amount that just one of the big four would happily pay for out of petty cash as part of the potential billion/s that they will reap.

Remembering that tax cuts for businesses with a $50 million turnover will start from July 1st, I am glad we had two southern representatives had the sense to stop this further hit to our structural government deficit. A deficit that has more than trebled under the current government.

Don't believe the hype, as it is a fallacy.

Lot of talk tonight about the issue with 507's being deported from Australia

To say I'm embarrassed to call myself an Australian with what is happening is an understatement

With the families they are talking about in Biloela , it is a disgrace

So basically what has happened in real terms (Before someone questions this , the company I work for brought 6 boys up , 3 in Gladstone and 3 in Biloela ) and basically while all the major industry was going on in both towns , these boys were doing jobs that no one else wanted Two of the boys in Gladstone basically refused to work and did a runner back to Melbourne

Now that the industry in both towns is dying and locals are unemployed they now decide to pull their lives out from under them

I have gotten to know 2 of the men quite well , one from Iraq whose family is being held in prison until he agrees to come back and face the consequences , he worked for the Americans as an interpreter during the war His parents owned a business and they have taken everything , I used to have some very dark conversations with him 😢 Unbelievably hard worker , always had a big smile ,despite everything

The 2nd is a Sri Lankan and outworks anyone I care to know , has a full time job at the meatworks and works around 30 hours a week in his 2nd job , he has just been told he will get deported as of last week

We can't do this to people , make them believe they have a life in our country and then steal it when it doesn't suit our country or Govt

Shame Mr Dutton Shame

Yet if your family has plenty of money, you fly in, take one of the university places that a good amount of our politicians got for free and then hang around. They then of course bring their families in that have already had a property sitting vacant long term waiting for them.

Meanwhile we have defence personnel participating in conflicts from which people are fleeing and yet offer little or no sanctuary for them, whilst voting against sanctions for snipers of a national army killing people throwing rocks that land far from them.

Go figure.

My first cousin was on that panel but I still managed to fall asleep, the first time that I watched that show in years.

Global warming etc. will wipe us out before social injustice etc is wiped out. The world is getting crueller under Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon. World armaments cost so much - all the world's problems could be virtually solved if that cost was re-directed to worthwhile aims.

I’ve worked in an airline overseas, airline lost money, expats were booted first.

It sucks, especially when your emotionally involved. It happens all over the world and Australia isn’t the only country. In fact I’m fairly sure most countries would hire nationals over foreign workers.
