@Yossarian said:Gee you took out of that article what you wanted to hear didn't you? Ignore all the quotes to the contrary and go with the same Pakistani agency you've been bagging deluxe for the last couple of days. You wouldn't think the below would suggest Rudd did nothing wrong or are you going to believe the Pakistan security bloke ahead of the DFAT guy?
**The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade say the claims are "untrue and absurd".\
\
Mr Richardson told The Australian Mr Rudd's statements on the matter were "in conformity with the advice from the Australian security and intelligence community".\
\
"They also followed comprehensive coverage of this matter in the international media."\
\
Mr Richardson said this had been confirmed by the US embassy in Canberra.**

Why would pakistan capture the bloke, leave it silent for 3 months, then let Rudd announce it?
It does smell like Rudds major ego yet again.
@Cultured Bogan said:I read it as the Pakis being ghosted by the US and doing anything and everything they can to save face.
This may not be the case, just calling it how I see it.

@stryker said:Labor are about to unleash their most ridiculous policy to date with Julias swappsies program with Malaysia.
Under the proposed deal, they'll take 1 illegal of our hands and we'll take 5 genuine refugees off theirs.
Heres the kicker…..we pay for the bloody lot!
Its been said that it will cost taxpayers $292,000,000 as this will happen to the next 800 illegals that arive on these shores.
What a great deal for Malaysia!! You can tell that they are very good at bartering! They have requested for this to be an open ended deal to boot as they have 90 thousand detainees.
What a boneheaded idea.....just send them to Nauru you stupid woman.
BTW.... with some of these illegal boats containing between 70 and 100 people it wont take long before this quota is met. What happens then? Another 800?

The Pacific solution cost $1billion and close to 100% of the "illegal" asylum seekers made it here anyway. And if you actually thought something through instead of launching your predictable anti-ALP tirade you'd realise the whole point of the exercise is to discourage people entering Aust this way. If these people understand that if they turn up in Australia as irregular arrivals, they will be sent to Malaysia at the end of queue, they are probably going to be less inclined to get on a boat. Therefore the number of arrivals should drop.
It may not be ideal, but to suggest Nauru is this fantastic option is just wrong.

I have to admit, I'm not at all opposed to this Malaysia solution. They're probably less likely to riot in Malaysia as well. I can't imagine their government would take too kindly to destruction of public property and they would probably be rightly flogged for their misdemeanours.
