I'm really concerned there is going to be this big push to grow more trees and people end up getting into the business of trying to game the system to attract those subsidies. I can this turning into a situation where we see very little positive benefit with a large cost.

Plenty of wasted money has and is still being handed over lately to corporate interests in current dubious programs, with some in government deeply involved in others, including the very dodgy water payments.

Happy to see that Morrison is concerned about his Central Coast seat with the decent margin of 4.2% in the case of Robertson. Enough to host and address the local party workers to try and rally them.

Don't think he will lose it though, as there are enough males around that he thinks he may lose to Labor, being his target audience that will listen to his dog whistling on trans issues and the like.

Thank you Barnaby Joyce for today restating your support to have Alex Hawke immediately allow the Murugappan family to be set free of their virtual chains. It has now been 1511 days since these sleeping Australian children and their parents were removed from their home in Biloela.

If they don't release them prior to the election, please vote other than Hawke and Morrison's Liberal party, so that they will be set free come 22 May. If not just because it is right and moral, do so on the basis that your current government has reportedly spent some $60 Million in persecuting these children, whose Tamil forebears are also still persecuted in Sri Lanka.

Money which could have built a school and medical centre in Biloela, a town that wants them back, including the meat works struggling to find staff where the father can again contribute in society.

It is nice the US has intervened in the Solomon Islands due to Scumo and his crew stuffing it up. It seems the US want to confront China if it attempts to build a base in the Solomon Islands. It couldn't have come at a better time for Australia after the $5.5bn submarine debacle and the Hunter Class frigates heading in the same direction.

I wonder what the people of the Solomon Islands are thinking about why they are getting so much attention, when the LNP already sold out here with a 99 year lease of the Port of Darwin to the Chinese?

Then there is also the Port of Newcastle which China Merchants Port Holdings Company bought a 50 per cent stake in the port when the government privatised it for $1.75 billion in 2014.

Whilst I expect that naming Newcastle as one of three potential Sub base locations was purely for election purposes, surely they would have to buy out the Chinese contract if it was chosen.

The Solomons will view our rhetoric as chauvinistic at best almost like they are our property. We will seem weak to them.

And even worse notice our government saying that China putting a military base there is a "red line". Wonder what they have in mind. Invasion, provocation or another military base right alongside escalating risks.

Kinda funny as I mentioned in the war thread that Russia kept repeating that Ukraine in NATO is a "red line " and the west scoffed at that with Biden saying he "doesn't respect anybody's red lines".

Talk about double standards .

For the record I'm against all entangled alliance's and bases.

I am still conflicted as to alliances, but I am absolutely certain that talking tough like the "shirt fronting" Putin rubbish and sending out the likes of Hastie to attack China and then blurting out alone demands for a covid inquiry does us no good whatsoever.

We are part of Asia and should be forming better relationships with those a lot closer geographically than Japan and the subcontinent, instead of alienating them.

When seeing that this morning on the back of Dutton's "prepare for war" rhetoric, I find it deeply disturbing and remembering not only your references above, but the echo of the same supposed line regarding Syria.

Similarly with the current Labor attacks on Glacys Lui, even though they are based on fact and there are still questions regarding donations and the death of her candidacy predecessor, it is unhelpful overall. As were the numerous Shanghai Sam remarks and the recent Manchurian Candidate attacks in the last weeks of parliament, that our security services felt compelled to intervene on.

Attaining or retaining political power on such a dangerous issue is wrong and very damaging to our nation's relationships. Division for individual gain is wrong.

I used to be a political junkie, but I have never been less interested in an election in my life, as soon as Scomo or Albanese are on I just tune out instantly. There is nobody I feel particularly inclined to vote for, punt the lot of them.

Dutton and Morrison with their sabre rattling is appealing to the low end of the Australian electorate. One thing I do know, if it came to that, Dutton and Morrion's relatives would avoid having to be involved. It reminds me of Sylvester Stallone and Mel Gibson.

The first bit definitely, though I would say appealing to the ignorant rather than "low end" as they already have almost all the vote from that section. I am though confused as to the latter reference?

Sylvester spent some time as a gardener in Switzerland between 1965 to 1967. Mel Gibson's family happily moved to Australia to avoid a particular issue in the US during the 60s.
