Politics Super Thread - keep it all in here

I've been reluctant to comment in this thread but I will say about the independents that in Indi, since Cathy McGowan gave Sophie Mirabella the "move on" and with one term of Helen Haines to judge her on, we have been better represented than any time in the 20 odd years I've lived here.

This week we had Morrison come out with a "tax guarantee" of 23.9%, which equates to a deficit of some 4% budgeted into the future. If the coalition lose, they will again leave Australia with a structural deficit, just like they did in 2007, only worse this time around.

I said previously I'm not voting for them because they've proven they are incompetent fiscal managers. They've proven it.

If Labour gets in I don't expect better but there is a chance they will do better.

Most people i know who live in Tony Abbotts old seat say the same about Zali Steggal, that she is the best local member they have had in 20 years and they are normally Liberal voters

Skyrocketing inflation is definitely a bad thing, and a massive debt is also definitely a bad thing, but one silver lining of the former is it eats away at the relative size of the latter.

The US spend a long time deflating the dollar because they have such a massive debt. If your dollar is worthless the debt doesn't matter that much.

It's pretty bad economic management but I get it.

This is a statement I found to be true when voting....

GOVERNMENT IS A GANG OF THIEVES AT LARGE....
GOVERNMENT :A SOCIETY OF THIEVES FIGHTING OVER WHO GETS TO STEAL WHAT FROM WHOM....

GOVERNMENT..

The filthy liars,thieves and murderers
you love and trust to protect you...

Your Government doesnt
give a crap
ABOUT YOU .....

Truth is we can't trust any one party and need so called fringe ones to provide reflection.

An old European proverb goes something like this. "Lord, protect me from my friends for I know my enemies ".

Inflation is probably understated for populist reasons.

Trouble is the collective west printed 25 trillion since the so called GFC and this is the root cause of inflation. It's just an erosion of our money. To think the people allowing and promoting these policies are professors and people with PhDs makes you wonder.

And I read with interest that Russia is planning to have a gold and commodity backed rubble by years end with China to follow.

Next month the U.S. begins quantitative tightening partly with the above in mind which is a reversal of money supply . The markets crashing are a reflection of this.

We are going to start to feel poor soon.

Definitely, both McGowan and Haines have been much better representatives for the Indi electorate, with the latter putting forward reasonable legislation for a federal ICAC in last year's parliamentary sessions.

For those unaware, former Liberal MP Sophie Mirabella is just one of a host of Liberal cronies appointed as a Fair Work Commissioner. In her case last year, on the starting salary of $387,960 per annum until 2033.

Mirabella, also previously served on the board of the government’s Australian Submarine Corporation failure that is costing us taxpayers some $5.5 Billion. Doubtless that in a very long list of such appointments, there is the odd suitably qualified one that deserved the role, but for many of them it is just another form of corruption.

Which is why Morrison and Hawke placed a hand grenade in Deves as the Liberal candidate.

Both already knew that she would lose big time and exactly what she was, so division by design for mine. They are though banking on such created division to attract the votes of bigots, primarily in the outer suburbs and those around me on the Central Coast, in an attempt to get them over the line in those electorates.

Deliberate and disgusting.

As for inflation, regardless of any potential populist reasoning or whether the way it is measured is a true reflection, personally and forgetting petrol as it is at around the same pre-excise cut up my way, it is easily over 10% for me. Probably closer to fifteen on my normal shopping products and other spending.

With regards the 5.5 billion wasted on defense re cancelled contract that is enough to equip the RAAF with 4 fighter squadrons or the RAN with 3 frigates.

Not insignificant.

And 80 billion for 8 nuclear subs is rich for me. Obviously they didn't haggle in any way let alone tender.

And Dutton with his sabre rattling has attracted the ire of our superpower neighbor and biggest trading partner.

And exert from the China foreign ministry.

Beijing says the Australian defense minister was seeking to score political points by clamoring for war

China has accused Australia’s defense chief of slander and making “wild remarks” over his comment that Australians should “prepare for war.

Certain Australian politicians often seek selfish political gains by making wild remarks to smear China and clamor for a war,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said on Tuesday.

Such despicable moves are seen through by the Chinese people and the international community.”

Commonsense dictates you build self defense in a non provocative way.

Whatever happens China will not sell out of our neighborhood so it's wise and unnecessary to avoid intemperate speech..

Can generally agree on areas of this, though think that there is room for healthy debate on urgent funds injection.

Where there is no excuse though is for situations such as the US decision to start printing more money in September 2019, simply for stimulating a sluggish economy and with our banks gifted the same for lending when covid hit.

Relating to an earlier post of yours, interest rates have long been way too low and should be raised by half a point next week.

If this is true they are scum. I reckon it's true as well. I hate this stuff more than just about anything.

I was highly supportive of Perrottet until this came up.

Dumb politics from the Libs.

I was not commenting on Perrottet, who I don't consider to be at such a low level of the others. He seems to have been somewhat forced to agree or he would lose state representatives and open up by-elections, with possible dire consequences.

Not long heard a political reporter going further on their intentions in using Deves than I did, stating that he had it from an insider it was aimed (and succeeding) at gaining/saving them widespread potential Palmer, One Nation and similar voters, over a much greater area than I thought.
