yeah thats right…sorry its already established and people have become accustomed.

Both parties make me sick.

This one will really take some getting used to i'd suspect...with no ceilings on further rises this will be hard to take.

The Libs wont get rid of it when they are in power

The only reason they won't get rid of it will be the expense that it will cost to dismantle added to the original cost to set it up
Same as the Labor party with GST Original Magpie

I can put this in perspective of retailers. I manage a regional shopping centre near wollongong. I expect to have to pass on large increases in outgoings to each tenant. This will lead to price rises in specialty stores for sure.

I expect food prices, especially in cooked food to rise.

Definitely another kick in the guts to retailers who are already trying to compete with online. 1 servers electrics isn't going to match the cost of lighting a shop… And you can even locate the server offshore!

The government should be helping business rather than overcompensating people. They will just direct those funds offshore.

its all a socialist conspiracy according to hadley and his stooges on 2GB

At least they get angry at things ww should be getting angry about.

Australians are way to easy going with wasted money and bad policy. It's the whole reason why Abbott has his one liners. Most Australians only stomach short sound bites.

The carbon tax has to get through the senate yet and the fact that the greens arent completely convinced that it is viscious enough may hold it back.

Gillard will today face another vote on her very iffy Malaysian trade deal for illegal boat people and it is looming as a defeat in the reps. Watch this space….

This is so true Hammer

If we were like some countries and we would take to the streets with mass protests and riots our politicians wouldn't try and slip some of the garbage past us like they do

So we should be worrying this a socialist conspiracy? I stay out of this thread, but these latest rounds of scaremongering from the Liberals and certain facets of the media; claiming socialist conspiracy is downright pathetic!

I hate political environment in this country… immensely is a joke.

I agree 100% about the comment re Australians... Howard capitalised on this to great affect.

I actually haven't heard them say that it is a socialist conspiracy, I just assumed Original Magpie was just overemphasizing to make a point.

Is that specifically what they have said? Because if so, I agree, that is lunacy.

… and I agree Kaiser, the current political environment is an absolute joke. But we can only blame it on ourselves. You just need to look at the top news stories on the telegraph to realize why politics is watered down and sensationalized.

Unlike some of those countries there is an election every three years. If people don't like something they can make their opinion known then. But seriously, mass protests about the ETC/Carbon tax? People in other countries have real problems like dictatorships, endemic corruption, starvation etc.

As for 2GB, Jones and Hadley don't even know what their angry about most of the time or why. As Media Watch has shown, they aren't interested in hearing from dissenting POVs and talk absolute bollocks most of the time. Jones for one could sum up his knowledge of the scientific arguements on an A4 piece of paper. One side only needed. And most of that would be meaningless or misleading statistics/figures wantonly misused.

Socialist conspiracy? Is Joh back from the dead? Anyone who even suggests that has zero idea of what socialism or even a conspiracy is.

Yoss The biggest problem we have with our politicians is they offer very little (that includes all sides of politics) difference when it comes to the crunch

We have no 3rd party that can mount a serious challenge and the only one that might (The Greens) have ideas that are mindblowingly bad it is scary
\
\
The politicians only listen when it suits them (when a election is coming) and then backflip whenever it suits them

We need to send the politicians stronger messages that we aren't going to put up with the junk they supply nowadays

The only thing saving our butts from a economics view point is we have a huge mineral portfolio to choose from Once that dies our economy will die

I dont think those people were specifically protesting about the carbon tax…that was the tool they used to emphasise their point that this government can not be trusted.

They told bold faced lies, were caught out on them and then proceded to continue lying about the fact that they lied in the first place.

Swann and Gillard especially were the culprits and are still doing it today. They have treated the voting public with contempt and that is where the backlash is coming from. If their attempts to save the environment was truly as nobel as they claim it to be then why didnt they have the intestinal fortitude to use it as their main platform for re-election last year?....oh thats right they did - they said in no uncertain terms that it was off the agenda and they WOULD NOT be pursuing it.

It would be nice, if one day politicians actually stuck to their word.
they are as bad as manly.
better not go any further as I may get banned from this forum

My favourite was when he used an article about advancements in Fibre Optics technology by the Germans to justify why the NBN is a waste and we should be using _Lasers_ instead :S haha God I hate that fairy.

Here was Engadgets take on the same subject http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/23/researchers-create-26-terabit-per-second-connections-with-just-a/

Idiot.

I know you were joking mate! And I apologise in advance but the politics graduate part of me needs to point out what Joh had running was more malapportionment than gerrymandering.
I know you probably already knew this and were joking but writing an honours thesis on the subject compels me to do it!!!
