So implement the federal ICAC and let them pursue it. I'd prefer the ALP focus on suppressing inflation and minimising/reducing the increase of cost of living than worrying about what Scomo got up to.

And I voted for the ALP, so I'm not some partisan trying to defend what he got up to. If there was wrongdoing it should be absolutely prosecuted, but implement a body to handle that and worry about the day to day issues of being a government.

I'm shocked really that after 9 years, the Conservatives have finally woken up that there is a cost of living crisis.

None of this grandstanding helps the public, who are struggling to keep a roof over their heads.
Maybe the $98 Million odd in Commonwealth funds that went to Angus Taylor and the shadow Treasurer's family businesses and offshore accounts might help?

Of course the millions of dollars per head on confirmed asylum-seekers would have helped as well.

As for helping the public, unlike the Royal Commission into roof insulation installations that cost 4 lives (still too many) at a similar death rate per installation as normal, and was basically the fault of the employers and greed, the families of up to two thousand lives lost to the long known to be illegal Robodebt scheme concocted by Morrison, certainly deserve answers.

These are the issues of government and exactly the ones that the majority of Australians voted for three months ago.

Most were addressed in some form in the initial sitting of parliament, and in little more than a month we will see the interim October budget, also promised and voted upon in May. A more than reasonable time frame.

Along with diplomacy, this new government has achieved so much in a short period, which is clearly reflected in the polling and approval ratings.

After years of deception, there is little to nothing more important, than exposing the wrongs of the worst and most secretive government in my long voting lifetime.

One of the really pleasing aspects of the RC into Robodebt is the fact Scomo will never be asked a question by counsel which they do not already know the answer. Plus the commissioner will not take any of his nonsense. That's refreshingly good!

I watched this morning that lady who spoke of her son committing suicide over a $2,000 debt which didn't exist. It was heart breaking to learn her son was her only child and she will never have grandchildren.
So, so, sad, and one of the many thousands of Australians that were affected by the loss of life of their child, family members and friends at the hands of a callous scheme.

A scheme that knowingly attacked the most vulnerable of our society, and even continued up until damages were awarded, despite the ruling that it was illegal long beforehand.

My sister worked Pro Bono on the case over a long period with filings for the Melbourne court case, and for both individuals and the families left behind. Including up to and beyond the settlement.

Dealing with the huge trauma of those affected was also felt greatly by all involved over a long period of time, just as it is with community service workers at the coalface on a daily basis.

Another couple of $Billion or so that could go towards the cost of living if not wasted.

In it’s essence it was a decent idea. The implementation was hopeless.

I don't oppose that. Implement the body to investigate it!

It is not Australian politics but a man who made a massive difference to the world M.Gorbachev died today.I never thought i would see the end of the cold war and occupation of Eastern Europe but he played a massive part in allowing that change to happen. Many people in Eastern Europe owe him a debt of gratitude.R.I.P

and our good for nothing "politicians" have endless talkfest on "the voice" and fool no one that would change anything, the real Aboriginal issues remain pushed under the carpet😡
"Between 2000 and 2022, 2Aboriginal men shot by police, ... followed by massive press coverage ... In that same period, 65 Aboriginal women were killed by their partners and in each case you would have been flat out seeing a small report on page 5 or 7"

Sadly, it is a figure not dissimilar to the percentage across the entire community over the same period, where we basically lose one woman every week at the hands of their current or former partners. The number lost in the indigenous community may even be lower than the general population, when factoring in the huge disparities in socio-economic factors for a reasonable comparison.

The saddest part is the Murdoch media using it to create a false reality and sow further seeds of division, just as they use the ambition of certain figures to such ends. Which some of their readers may then spread further, just like you have recently.

On the Queen, the loss of a huge public figure, that to me, was a half decent person in a sewer that is the monarchy. Onwards to a Republic, one that Howard played a huge role in stopping us from becoming decades ago.
