Absolutely zero. This govt is way out of touch with what is actually needed. I suspect the stimulus will be aimed at business only and provide very little for everyone else.

Yep Labor’s stimulus paid dead people / dogs / cats and people living in other countries just saying but I guess that’s ok !

Labor was one of the very few governments who kept their country out of the recession.Certainly mistakes were made but they achieved their objective.Lets hope our current government dosent have to take action to save the situation because i dont believe they have the ability even if scomo takes another holiday to Hawaii for inspiration.
I am sure all of us are in his thoughts and prayers though.

Maybe he might migrate over here when he loses the nomination to Biden.

good old Kevin 747 spent all of Howards and the liberals money they had banked away

That came from selling Telstra, along with our federal gold reserves, which was on the back of virtually no infrastructure spending during their tenure.

It was a pittance considering our nation was long riding the back of Keating's structural changes and the exploding China growth, which was wasted in being given out in ridiculous Super and other tax breaks, along with middle class welfare. Worse still, Rudd matching further coalition 2007 election tax cut promise candy, left the nation with a structural deficit.

Not only that, from their election at the beginning of September 2013 to the end of last year, they increased our debt by 250% from some $162 billion, to $403 billion and whilst not providing insulation to 1,200,000 odd ceilings, nor building a single school building, playground under a stimulus scheme.

I welcome you to show me otherwise.

Yes it is and it would be similar, if not exactly the same if those payments were rolled out today, as about 1% of the population dies or moves overseas each year. The records are simply not updated quickly enough to stop such errors and especially so when done as hastily as was needed at the time.

One cannot rewrite history, which shows, that apart from the coalition and some of their diehard supporters, basically all economists and governments praise the way, targeting and speed at which the Rudd government rolled out their stimulus packages. Of course, he and his government were not perfect in this and other areas, but the praise was not without good reason and our country sailed smoothly through troubled world waters.

The biggest waste of the whole affair was the political Royal Commission that was always going to find that the four deaths were all a result of employer related OH&S issues and of a normal percentage in the industry when considering the many years worth of normal installation numbers carried out in the short period.

Absolutely zero. This govt is way out of touch with what is actually needed. I suspect the stimulus will be aimed at business only and provide very little for everyone else.

I will start by stating that in general, Morrison has handled the Corona virus situation a lot better than just about anything else since the election and deserves some praise. That said, considering the speed at which that liberal marketing showing the defence force involvement once he got back from Hawaii, why the hell are many Australians still in the dark regarding the virus situation or protocols as there still has not been a public education program in sight. Though that is in line with their timing on pretty well everything, being more than days late and dollars short.

As for the stimulus, well it should have commenced last spring at the latest, when they didn't take advice from Treasury, business and the opposition, instead wanting to take us for a ride clinging to the already failing projected surplus. As projected by many, bringing forward the instant payment tax cut rebate was never likely to work, as it most benefited people that would invest or pay off mortgages and hardly any that would spend those funds because they needed it.

Minimal raising of the tax free threshold and associated smaller rebate would have been much more effective throughout the economy, but that would not cater to their base and that is why I share your worry with how out of touch they are and how that will translate into their approach.

Any stimulus package Scamo and friends brings in will benefit Gina Rupert and the pentecostal church the rest of us peasants will have to wait for the illusiary "trickle down effect" which never happens.
Blessed be Scamo

I'm very curious to see how this will go. I think most people realise trickle down doesn't work well as a stimulus (personally, I'd chuck it on the mortgage rather than spend) but the libs are inherently disinclined to be seen to give a welfare recipient some extra money to spend.

When KRudd did his Oprah impression in 2008, he was spending the massive surplus Howard had amassed. We still haven’t gone close to paying it back and Scomos stimulus is coming from a weakened position. This will hurt

That's how it's meant to work.

The following shows that even back in September, their economist former leader John Hewson knew just how Morrison and co would continue to mismanage the already struggling economy.

"**At some point they will have to change their rhetoric, but it's more likely they'll wait until something of a crisis hits us, from offshore in particular, which they can then say 'ah well that's the reason we have to change', rather than initiating it themselves**,"

Or to quote another, "sound economic managers, my arse"

People probably did spend it through small businesses. Not everyone would have rushed out and bought a plasma telly.
