Meanwhile, a political opportunist takes to attacking those locked down vulnerable people on national television. Disgusting!

She has based her entire political career on formenting division and hatred in our nation at the expense of minorities. She really is a loathsome person and one i am ashamed is Australian.

Also disgraceful that Nine gave her a platform for her hate and only gave her the boot after an outcry from advertisers.

I'd never vote for her (and I never watch those shows either) but I think she should be allowed on, just as I think her polar opposites from the Greens or whoever should be allowed on. It will be a sad state of affairs if the only politicians allowed to speak on tv are the party-line robots from only Liberal or Labor.

Too often we have people, from both left and right, supporting free speech only when the speech aligns with their own views.

And all that aside, if you truly dislike Hanson, then this is counterproductive - it makes her supporters think 'the system' or 'the elites' are trying to silence her - which generally makes them support her even more.

Too true. I know this is tangential, but the left like to silence dissenting opinions by using "ist" and "phobe" tags, while the right love to cite preservation of status quo or convention and anyone being against that is "un" whatever. Two sides of the same coin.

I'm not into censorship at all either.

But she offered nothing about disease control in urban Melbourne. Just a weird, incorrect, racist rant.

It's a bit like doing a school project on reproduction and saying that babies are delivered by storks. Then complaining that your point of view is equal to that of someone with a phd in reproductive science, under the banner of 'free speech'.

Your opinion isn't equal, just your opportunity to share it.

IMHO, Pauline has legitimate right to express her view, in many cases I found people attack a straw-men they build and had never actually heard what was said! I remember there were quite offensive (at least to me) expressions on the ABC Q&A e.g. ISIL activist, female activist supporting arsonists, 'kill all men' etc. But a different rule for them and another for people like Pauline!

Paulines views i cannot always agree with, but i admire her guts in this stupid corritically left society that has stopped the average person from having their say without being called racist or a bigot.
FREEDOM OF SPEECH IS BEING TAKEN AWAY BY MINORITY GROUPS.

We need to be careful with all of the current "cancel culture" etc etc

"I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it".........

Boarder closed with Victoria. I feel sorry for border communities .

General feeling down here in Vic is that the whole state will be back into lock down by the end of the week. Probably the right call anyway.
Interesting take on the social housing issue. Broken down lifts, shared laundry facilities, no balconies, cramped common area and narrow hallways - surely we can do better than that. I understand the point that the Chief Medical Officer was making, but it's a bit rich refering to them as vertical cruise ships. Shines a spotlight on another welfare issue, not unlike the inadequate jobs seeker payment pre-covid19.
I remember the social housing in Pyrmont Bridge Road, but my recollections are that it was much better than what we have in inner Melbourne.

Through necessity, pretty extraordinary restrictions have been put in place and it shows just how easily the virus is transmitted in lower socio-economic communities, especially ones that apparently have to share facilities. It should be of no surprise, as there is plenty of evidence from all levels of developed countries showing the same thing.

The circumstances show a need to remove the infected to isolation facilities such as hotels or otherwise, as it seems obvious that further spread will occur otherwise.

Meanwhile, a political opportunist takes to attacking those locked down vulnerable people on national television. Disgusting!

Is it that she’s tone deaf or genuinely racist ? To me, maybe I’m wrong but she was basically saying the same things you were saying about lower socioeconomics, and more community based refugees who we have let down in making sure they understood what was required, in regards to social distancing . Which seems obvious to me . Also what else seems obvious is how many of those towers are from African descent , and participated in the protests.
Seems fairly obvious that we need to investigate these things , to try to pin down what has caused the spread , and look at ways to prevent the spread moving forward .
To me she just seems like she is unable to deliver a fairly obvious message without coming across as a bigot. If she has empathy ,and compassion , she really struggles to convey it .

She is racist and also a bigot. if you examine her outbursts over many years she always attacks minorities vietnamese refugees-asians in general-indigenous australians-asians-muslims-african refugees-chinese and now back to africans again(chronological order though it is possible i missed some). Also very anti gay.She has been doing this for 30+ years and it was only the fact she was so vocal in her bigotry that got her expelled from the liberal party.

Ok cool . But her policies on border control , are not controversial. They’re controversial because she is delivering them , and has no vocabulary.shes a dope .
Also what she said about the towers shouldn’t be controversial if she chose better wording and had a better vocabulary.
I’m sure half the cabinet is an entitled racist , in private .
You can say the same sentence 10 different ways and have 10 different outcomes.

She is playing to an audience, just like Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon does, worse part is that audience exist to play to.

In saying that you do not defeat these attitudes by banning or silencing them, you defeat them by countering them and showing that they are wrong. You don't ever change the opinion and attitude of individuals involved, but you have a chance with the people who are still developing their attitudes and beliefs. If you ban these opinions and ideas from being heard and countered you lose that opportunity and just push ideas and beliefs you disagree with under ground.

100%, her views need to be given a platform, but they need to be countered. That was the problem with the Today show segment and with society in general is they moved straight to the outrage response instead of having someone counter her racist opinion with facts and truth. Her claims about methadone and producing advice in different languages for example should have been countered.

The same thing should have happened with Israel Folua.
