I find it laughable that people believe theres a left in the US. There is, but they are not mainstream. The Dems are right wing and the GOP are far right.

If they were any further left they would fall off the end of the earth.

I think he meant the left is so far left they have gone full circle. But in a weird way he is right, there is no left in the US anymore, its extreme far left.

I think left and right should be replaced with terms that suit modern politics. Something like
"We could have done better provided we were not in power" and the "Deny everything and sell our souls to the devil" parties.

I know you're probably being funny there, but both parties are elected on rhetoric which benefit a few at the expense of the many, so those labels aren't too far off the mark.

A Green New Deal won't happen unless it is what the elites want. The Dems have their interests that they are beholden to, and it doesn't involve Marxist movements unless Marxist movements are heavily invested in Wall Street. The top of the Democrat chain are all filthy rich too, if they were really a leftist party Bernie Sanders would have romped it home, wonder why they went with Joe?

The Green New Deal wont happen because it was costed by the Dems budget guys at 100 Trillion dollars and would bankrupt the country.

IMO you have touched on a critical issue in US politics (and therefore world politics). The DNC (not the Democratic Party) is a machine ruled by elites and corrupted by profiting from peddling power to lobbyists (GOP as well). This is why Bernie has been intentionally shafted two election cycles in a row (Klobuchar and Booker, pulling out immediately prior Super Tuesday and endorsing Biden, Warren staying in too long). The DNC is a self serving machine for the ruling elites (the GOP is as well but less organised). Biden is the DNC's meat puppet.

The Democratic Party on the other hand is an entirely different beast. Whilst the DNC is ruled by the elites, it relies on the political and voting support of the Democratic Party which has moved wildly to the left and this is why Biden is caught out by trying to walk the fine line between meeting the DNC's objectives but placating the ever wilder party base i.e Antifa is an "idea", wont rule out stacking SCOTUS, the Green New Deal is a good thing and generally a mouthpiece for BLM at the moment (Breonna Taylor was murdered etc), "peaceful" protests in Portland etc etc

100 trillion dollars. There you go, a way to look like you're doing something but not actually do anything.

It'll be whittled down to sweet bugger all.

Happy to be corrected, though as far as I am aware, that figure is a figment of Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon's imagination and just a rounded up figure from the absolute top of the range from a right wing costing range of 50 to 93 over a decade

Conversely, what is the cost of doing nothing, life, health, loss of prime land, agricultural failure? Add to that the ridiculousness of the argument against the economics of restructuring the economy working. Though I expect it to be reasonably neutral, I will allow a cost of say 2% of GDP and then, even if it costs say 5% of GDP, the cost would be well worth it and much much better than the alternatives that science has for our children.

Some seem to worry that this is the end to their precious capitalism, but pretty simple to me, as you are replacing a marketplace and business will almost immediately adapt to the new structure, just as they are already where enacted and did when a transitional fee path to market price was placed on carbon here in Australia. It worked and was ripped apart by the man and his hard right backers that also ruined our best and bipartisan chance when Abbott rolled Turnbull in 2009.

You'll get no argument with me on that. I've made my feelings well known on that.

My point is that the Dems will put it forward, put a huge figure on it and then do one of two things: throw their hands up and say it can't get through or whittle it down to an affordable figure, but not something that benefits everyone.

What they do federally doesn't impact the states anyway. There's a commonwealth in the US of about a dozen states that are still proceeding with meeting Paris climate goals, California is spearheading it.

So, on the home front ....? How are we all feeling about Scummo and Fraudenberg's budget? I got exacty as I expected, $0. No surprise that the Coalition prioritise churches ($61.4 million extra for chaplaincy program in schools) over the arts, universities, Indigenous health and wellbeing .... Maybe we just need to enrol in a school and have a few sessions with a chaplain from Scotty's Happy Clappers Inc. We'll all be tickety-boo in no time.

Haven't had a look at it yet, with my only knowledge thus far being of the early whispers let out prior to the announcement. Though won't be surprised if your take on it proves to be a reasonable view when I do.

Have you got an article with a good overview?

Dont forget the complete ignoring of anything worthwhile in regards to the enviroment/climate change, maybe the religous types can fix it in their spare time

I thought the massive $250 before Chrissy for pensioners was a nice touch

The amount of Reblublicans testing positive is crazy. Almost as if they haven’t been taking the virus seriously 🤔

Maybe the Qanon'ers were right in principle, but backing the wrong horse.

Maybe Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon was a plant to thin out the GOP base lol...

Edit; Haven't got a shot of them all, with Stephen Miller also adding to the list.

Wonder how many of these will die from it? Id say less than 0.3%

Luckily for that bunch, they arent in this category. Id love to know where the Democrats 'meh science' was when they knowingly and willfully did this to the highest risk people. shhhhhh nothing to see here.

Not good choices, particularly in hindsight, though they were in the early hit states and pretty sure all of them were working within the CDC guidelines at the time. New York and possibly others also had a policy of the facilities having to have the resources to care for Covid patients, else they had to transfer.

I had a joke about coronavirus but 99.97% wont get it.

You had a joke about Coronavirus, but it would be wrong...

Where are you getting these stats from? The death rate from resolved cases alone in Australia is 3.47%, and globally it is 3.75%. It's 4.21% in the United States.
