US has been a lost case for months. Anyone who thinks a change in federal government will change anything now is kidding themselves. I'm glad that both the ALP and LNP had the stones to make decisions to get it under control here.

We are lucky we had job keeper to support our economy but geez we will be paying it back for some time to come.

Yes, that is what is required to keep people fed though. I would much prefer that than people being run out of home and starving.

I also think that now is the time for some government infrastructure projects.

Does their Federal government have the jurisdiction to lockdown states? They can lockdown movement in and out of the US, but I would figure the way that the US is structured imposing lockdowns on states would be a violation of states rights, unless there is a public safety loophole or something similar. I can't imagine that they could tell citizens of New Orleans or Chicago that they cannot leave the city without the Governor rubber stamping it?

Of course not. A large proportion of Democrat voters would still be considered right wing by Australian standards, and value their freedom of movement. I don't think they will respond as well to lockdowns as us or the UK.

I drives me mad when people compare Bernies Medicare for all to what we have here. Of course I value our medical system, particularly compared to the US, but what Bernie (and Harris) are proposing is not our system. They propose basically to have the Government in competition with private health insurance to cover top to bottom health care. It will send them broke and costs will skyrocket.

Having socialised medical systems is good. THAT proposal is nuts.

As far as I am aware it is more so along the lines of the British NHS system in provision of services, but without providing the infrastructure and the government as a single payer, though unsure as to the ambulance and prescription aspects of it.
