@Spud_Murphy I agree, Harry does a bit for the club but nothing like what Nick does for the rorters.

They invited Politis onto the board and he is now the chairman. We just want harrys money but wont let him have a say on how to spend it.

Smart club v dumb club.

Do we know that Harry actually wants to dictate how the money is spent? I saw an interview with him a few years back and he said that basically he asks Tigers where they want to spend the money he offers.

Harry might be a complete rugby league nuffie.

Lastly, does Harry actually want to be that involved with Tigers? He's basically up to his eyebrows in Meriton any day of the week already and he's 86 years old.

I read somewhere that the NRL won't allow Harry T to become a to provide any TPA's due to his previous sponsorship of WT's.
It's just Toddy being "Fair" again.

Don't think that was right. He wasn't allowed to provide TPA's whilst he was a sponsor is my understanding BT.

I often wonder what our fans reaction would be if Wests Tigers had Nick Politis as the boss

Mate I’m the first to admit I’m jealous and envious of the Rorters. I hate it. Tonight I’m watching the game with my Rorters supporting mate who will grin through the game and give me crap all night. What I’d give to enjoy the success of this club.

But under the current rules they cheat and the NRL do not address it.
So how would I react if Politis was our boss - I’d love it. But I’d love it more if the NRL would do their bloody job and make the competition fair for all.

I think it was mentioned on here but don't recall seeing it anywhere else. Maybe just a rumour.

Harry wanted to own us a few years ago so he definitely wanted to be more involved but you hear nothing about him now. Meriton isn't listed as a sponsor on the official page.

@gallagher Maybe he's an anonymous gift giver these days.

He could be. That's not reflecting our signings though.

Thats easy. Our 20000 members who are pretty much there through thick and thin would be joined by another 20 or 30 k who love a winner and we would be an unstoppable freight train, but..................probably rorting the cap. At least we know the NRL would be saying "nothing to see here"

Lucky that off field role was not previously discussed, otherwise it would have been a salary cap breach and subject to a fine.

Thugs, grubs and germs pretending to be upstanding citizens.

Sure that your not talking about our national government. Politis would fit in perfectly with his mate from the shire.

What if the 'gifts' are not dollars and cents but happy meals or a new scooter? Well organised gifts would be hard to trace and even harder to attribute as a payment in kind.

Some folks in here mentioned Singo on the Matty Johns Podcast, which I ended up watching this evening on Kayo. It is indeed interesting how he makes several mentions of Politis, at the suggestion of Johns, and how "Easts work in gifts".

He said that's the way Newtown started their recruitment driving when he joined in the 80s, and that gifts aren't traceable, or you could make them traceable and tax deductible for yourself, so either way it's a win. Singo says to Johns "mate, I could offer you a gift right now, for doing nothing, and there's nothing anyone can do about it, it's not illegal".

Johns says "so what about Nick Politis?"

Singo says something along the lines of "oh, he was green back then, but he was interested in the game and he quickly learned that it was a terrific game to watch and be involved in, and he wanted to be more involved. You'll remember he was one of the first to put his name on jerseys, with City Ford. Him and John Quayle are tight - one being good with money, one being a good man-manager, so Easts make things happen. Nick used to put roadblocks in my path when we worked together, rules and such, and I'd have to find a way to get around them, find the loophole, which is what he does now with Easts and the salary cap. If Easts want a player nowadays, it happens."

So what assumptions, hypothesis or articulations do you make after watching the podcast?

I don't follow? Interesting opinions of an old league head, and Singo knows/knew a lot of big hitters in Australia.

Yes we’ll its always bit tricky when you take a cruise without ports. Also both my best mates passes few years back and we had great time as a group. Now just me, wife and two widows so not saying it’s not good company but miss that bit extra kick in my cocktail.
But getting back on the subject of this thread ..... caught the game last night between the dinner and the late show .... I mean not a fan of either team but well in the first half ..... that ref .... all I can say is Politis not only found a way to keep that team under the sombrero but also now found a way to include the ref! Way I saw it Melbourne lost it in the first half, never allowed to get into their groove through mostly offside defence and one sided penalty count.

AP Eagers is a smart company with a great CEO. They're doing a fair bit of takeover activity and Uncle Nick's wealth has swelled as a result.

I dare say that if Nick passes, I expect there will be a sizable endowment fund for the Roosters. Nick could potentially set up a fund that would cover them in perpetuity.

Just hopefully Harry T has one lined up for the Tigers!!

Read somewhere awhile ago that he has organised ongoing support for the Rorters well into the future.

No such thing planned by Harry I would think. Harry I would imagine he is still browned off over the BLC.

I heard Harry T and Jaycars owner G Johnson are both being courted to re-enter as sponsorship partners in some capacity. Both are WT supporters ..... so you never know there’s smoke so there may be fire!

Storm went nuclear when they started ‘gifting’ boats.

The Storm were stripped of two premierships as a consequence. I can’t remember if the ATO took any action or showed any genuine interest. The Storm were running two parallel books, and maybe that second book (kept from the NRL) met all the tax obligations - I don’t know enough about tax to judge what’s possible and what’s not, but Singo does, and this is what makes his comments so compelling...

That's great to hear, it would be nice to have such successful people on our board aswell.
