Poor Crowd again!

I think you hit the nail on the head with the sponsorship stuff. I feel that the corporates are tied heavily to SFS.

Leichhardt facilities are not good enough to sell to corporates, and playing all your games at Campbelltown limits you market.
Financially 3 games is necessary.

From my recollection of the figures it wouldn't do alot more than cover expenses for the most part.

It isn't great that we have to allocate the games across 3 grounds but financially it is imperative in my opinion and bigger picture it makes us open to draw from a bigger audience pool.

There needs to be research in place though to try and maximise our crowds across the board.

If it means using part of the buffer we gain from the SFS to reduce ticketing costs to our lower drawing fixtures scheduled at CSS I think it could be worth exploring

The whole allocation needs to be reviewed. The decision to take matches to Homebush was against the backdrop of crowds in 2003\. Both Campbelltown and Leichhardt were averaging well below 10,000\. The decision at the time was correct.

However, 9 years later and both grounds have along term average of just over 13,000\. Both averaged well over 15,000 last season with Campbelltown almost averaging 16,000\. The Wests Tigers brand is now 9 years older. Can only begin to imagine the differences between membership levels of 2003 and today. Therefore, do we really need to be playing at the SFS?

The issue I see is sponsorship. Have we tied some of our sponsorship to playing at the SFS? Because of such sponsorships, has playing at the SFS now become a permanent strategy of the club and we will never go back to 6 & 6? I would be rather disappointed if that was the case. As fans of two clubs that were forced to merge, we have had to give up enough already.

Noyce stated back in 2004 taking games to Homebush was to ensure the viability of the club and the goal was to return to 6 & 6\. Surely it is now worth a trial for a few seasons.

Playing games at the SFS/ANZ is what has put the club in a strong position, plus it allows the club to play the big games there to cater for larger crowds. The other benifit of playing at the SFS is its proximity to the CBD and offers convienence for out-of-town members/supporters like myself to attend games and continue our support of the club.

I only started buying Memberships when we moved to the SFS, as I felt Homebush was just as bad to get to as Campbelltown.

I suppose its how you look at the Wests Tigers… Is the club a Western Sydney Team or a National Franchise based in Sydney?

I was there on Sat- Night with my family & it was bloody cold, but it is a winter sport, On a Sunday i feel they would of probably got another 2,000- 3,000 people. I also agree with the person who said we had lost three games straight & the Panthers position on the table was also a factor. I look @ some of the teams we have played there & they are hardly good travellers, Canberra on a Monday Night, Cowboys on a Sunday cant expect to many Cowboys supporters to come down for the game & when you think about the Penrith supporters to get to Campbelltown it is by car & Public Transport is very difficult to get there. I feel all this adds up to some poor crowds this year @ Campbelltown.

I think people are being a little harsh on Cambo, as posted by others

1–coming off three pretty average efforts
2--Saturday night middle of winter on a cold night, when most people could stay at home or go to the club and catch it on fox live
3--Penrith fans are not great on road trips, their not even great at going to their home games
4--Penrith were near the bottom of the comp, not the most attractive fixture

I did venture out their from the inner west but it did take some coaxing from a mate, although Iam a member the idea of catching it on the big screen at my local was hard to turn down. Leichhardt may have got a few more but it would not have been many.

Surely it must be time for people to stop the snipping at each other and get behind both venues

Next campbelltown game is a Monday night against probable wooden spooners. Can we expect another thread on terrible crowds?

That's true and it got us out of a hole, but surely with the growth in brand and membership, Campbelltown and Leichhardt are now sustainable. Campbelltown can also be expanded if required.

With all due respect, surely we don't play at the SFS to placate Queenslanders!

You would hope the former. Sydney has Sydney & Souths as franchises in Sydney. We represent inner and outer western Sydney - that is our fabric.

Two more threads to come regarding crowds;

Poor Monday night crowd v wooden spooners at CSS

Great Sunday arvo crowd v minor premiers at LO

Bet your bottom dollar on it.

Looking back at the crowd stats over the years, the average for Saturday nights at Campbelltown are 11,704\. For comparison, the average for Saturday nights at Leichhardt is only 9,172\. So, by comparison, 12,384 isn't too bad…

Mind you, these averages for both grounds are dragged down heavily by a few games in our early years with really poor crowds. Leichhardt has had 6 games with crowds less than 8,000 and a lowest of only 4,359!

Looking at the more recent history though, Campbelltown still does better on Saturday nights. The average crowd for the last 3 Saturday nights at Campbelltown was 14,216 (games against Canberra and Penrith twice). The comparable average at Leichhardt was 12,760 (Cronulla, NZ and the Roosters).

They should just relocate the Tigers to Queensland, base them at Langlands Park and play at Suncorp…

Wahoo... <big>**!!! East Coast Tigers !!!**</big> done...

:righton:

Sucks for Campbelltown that they get 2 Monday games. Probably the hardest ground in Sydney to get to in peak hour traffic. Hope the Commission puts in some type of strategy to address this in the new TV rights deal.

About time people realised it's not the people from Campbelltown that don't turn up - it's supporters from the rest of Sydney.
It's perceived to be too far to go - and anybody who went there in the early years has probably still got bad memories of poor service and toilets overflowing.
They need to sell the upgraded venue - not the game.

It would be an interesting exercise to do a demographics profile on our fan base. That would answer some of the questions posted here..
