Poor judges

Maybe I am a bad judge but I have a good memory and I do remember all the game's when Curtis Sironen was MOM.

It's easy its…......... ZERO.

A 21 year old kid with a sprinkling of first grade games hasn't won a MOM yet.

So?

I wouldn't call almost 40 NRL games a sprinkle.
Has he ever even picked up a single Dally M point ..anything ..something ?

His done nothing to deserve being selected in an emerging blues squad. His in the Moltzen, Galloway, Lawrence and Rowe group and their is nothing emerging out of there.

40 games in 3 years. Thats a sprinkling each year with massive layoffs because of injuries.

You are setting an unreasonable bar and whinging when he doesn't meet it.

You people are really hard markers.

Sironen was a 5/8 who was put into the back row - a position I would think could have been a little strange to him.

So he gets injured and misses 12+ games at the start of this season. Gets shoved straight back in because of injuries and plays with a team that really doesn't want to be there.

However, he tries hard and the last few games he does pretty well.

No - not good enough says you. Hard markers indeed.
I think there are a lot of people here against Curtis because his old man is Paul Sironen.
I'm sure he doesn't get any favours because of his name (except in the press) and he shouldn't get bagged because of his name either. We only talk about on merit here, don't we?

Give him a go - he has to learn the position, which doesn't happen overnight. He is no worse or better at this stage than most of the team. They all have problems and most on the form they showed this year, need to improve just as much as Sironen. Get on their backs as well.

Most of the Forum are already on Teddy for being injury prone, Rowdy is hopeless, Richards is too old, Moses can't tackle, Brooks is rocks and diamonds, Simona and Nofo are out of form.

Then we move to the forwards - Sue is a naughty boy, Halatau is past it and too small, Galloway doesn't run hard enough, Farah is a fence jumper and not aiming up.

Reading between the lines I guess most of the Forum think Woods, Lodge, Ava, Sitaleki and Taupau scrape by with a pass mark.

I am suggesting that people get off his back, give him the same go as all the others mentioned in 2015 and then judge him after x amount of games as all the other players.

Absolutely tired of people getting singled out and the relentless pursuit of crapola put on them.

Blair copped heaps, Anasta was buried, Rowdy they will hardly ever find again he has had such a dumping.

Guess the whipping boy in 2015 is CURTIS SIRONEN!!!!!!!!
Something for him to look forward to and gain some confidence.

Well said!

Congratulations to both of them. Getting picked will only bring confidence and Growth in their game.
(Just what the doctor ordered.)

Anybody keen on digging up emerging blues squads from the p"ast 5 years? Let's see who actually went on to do much.

here's some names from the 2013 one

"NSWRL officials will officially release the squad today but the two Reynolds boys - Canterbury's Josh and South Sydney's Adam - will definitely be there.

Other stars include Josh Dugan, Blake Ferguson, Aiden Tolman, Jamal Idris, Tariq Sims, Nathan Merritt, Feleti Mateo, Aaron Woods and Chris Lawrence.

Several rising stars also won spots including Parramatta's Jacob Loko, Canterbury's Josh Jackson, Gold Coast's Aidan Sezer, Manly's Jorge Taufua, St George Illawarra's Mitch Rein and Sydney Roosters pair Boyd Cordner and Joseph 'BJ' Leilua. Cordner has been touted as a future Roosters skipper."

i'd say all recognised players today, except Lawrence (injuries) and perhaps mitch rein and loko

How many of those are Origin players? Not even half.

What about the 2012 NSW Emerging Blues squad. Blake Ayshford - Wests Tigers Tim Moltzen - Wests Tigers. Good judges there.
The only thing I remember about Sirro from last year was is his Matt Groat impersonation planting his feet and watching players step around him.
Ohh Didn't Matt Groat make two Australian schoolboys sides..they must be poor judges as well.

Being big and having talent will take you a long way as a schoolboy

Doesn't necessarily mean anything when you reach the NRL

Hard work ,hard work and more hard work are needed to make it in the NRL

Sirro is a very good footy player, you dont make forst grade if youre not (I await some replies rattling off names left right and center) …and for all those names that will emerge...there have been thousands and thousands behind then who havent crossed the touchline in firsts.. those a long way behind.
I think Sirro has found it pretty easy since junior reps due to his size and his old man...Id say this final step from 20s to NRL...where he was thrown in very very early imo - in an unfamiliar position also...has been the toughest he's ever had to deal with. Its called junior development...just when junior development ceases and whatever ensues next is as individual as each player is an individual themselves, but I think this year his development ceases and runs need to be put on the board.

If he is not selected as a starting backrower I will be a happy man. Because that will mean our other options must be really kicking some serious arse to edge him out.

As Ink stated, he is a very good footy player, whether he kicks on to high rep honours at senior level or plods along for a number of years is another matter, but he has already proven he is a first grader.

If I recall correctly, Wally Lewis singled him out for praise in a dejected side in the last match against the dogs, with Johns, Fittler and co also chiming in. But hey, maybe they are all poor judges as well.

I agree with this ink and other sentiment in this thread: Sirro is transitioning from developing junior to an established FGer, and with that comes higher expectations.

I for one believe Sirro has more potential than most of our pack, but based on that potential he is judged to a higher standard. People are expecting Sitaleki, Sue, Ava to make yards and not miss tackles, but Sirro is expected to do all this, plus ball-play a bit out wide, run strong holes, backup 5/8th etc. Tough gig.

Certainly Sirro was found wanting in defence on several occasions last year, but if we are keeping that list to hand then 99% of the players are on it. Brooksie I believe missed the most tackles in the whole comp, Moses had some mega turnstile moments at the back and dudes like Blair and Thompson were seen clutching at air regularly enough. Even Farah had a few poor moments getting bumped off for tries.

This a defining year for the lad, no doubts.

where did anyone mention anything about origin players?

just cause you make a squad of 20-30 players when you're 20 years old doesn't mean you'll make the 17 5 years later for your state. Not to mention the Blues can choose the best players aged 20-32 (give or take) while junior squads can only choose 18-20 or 20-23, whatever the case might be.

the question was 'who went on to do much'

IMO this will be a defining year for Siro and will determine if he wants to be a first grader or not. I don't think Taylor will carry him in the side, the same way Potter did… If he wants a back row spot he really needs to step up all aspects of his game, defence in particular.

Given we only have about three back rowers at the club I suspect he'd have to go pretty badly to get dropped.
