Potential 2013 teams

Very hard to make these types of calls this far out, but I'll have a crack based on potential, plus what I think needs to improve among the team for 2013:

1\. Tedesco
2\. Grant (we need a right side winger with plenty of toe and Grant would have learnt a lot from this year)
3\. Nofoaluma/Asiseli Fine
4\. Lawrence
5\. Koroibete
6\. Marshall
7\. Anasta
8\. Woods
9\. Farah
10\. Galloway
11\. BMM
12\. Blair
13\. Fulton

14\. Ryan
15\. Pettybourne
16\. Kite
17\. Fotuaika

This is just what I would like to see, although realistically I expect Heighno , Moltzen and Ayshford to be in there somewhere.

Now, compare the WT in 2013 to where the other teams are going to be…sorry but I see nothing but dark clouds ahead, fellows...

1\. Marshall
2\. Koroibete
3\. Lawrence
4\. Ryan
5\. Utai
6\. Anasta
7\. Miller
8\. Woods
9\. Farah
10\. Galloway
11\. Blair
12\. BMM
13\. Bell

14\. Fulton
15\. Pettyborne
16\. Moors
17\. Sironen

1\. Tedesco
2\. Ryan
3\. Thompson or another fast centre (would love to buy another centre)
4\. Lawrence
5\. Koroibete
6\. Marshall
7\. Braith
8\. Woods
9\. Farah
10\. Galloway
11\. BMM (impact)
12\. Moors (impact and has some ball skills)
13\. Blair (playing up the middle like Gallen and give a rest)

14\. Pettybourne
15\. Kite/Bell
16\. Fulton (can cover backs and forwards)
17\. Fotuaika

I have gone for a pack with size and believe Moors and BMM can gives us some impact and running off Braith's passes. Utai has been great but time for youth to have a go.

We always have injuries so Sironen, Moltzen can be considered.

No room for under achievers Ashyford, Moltzen and Rhino.

I don't have room for Ryan in my top 13\. Big heart yes.

There is a distinct lack of Fulton love that I am seeing! I don't get it I thought he has been one of our best easily this year

Have seen some interesting thoughts here. I didn't know we were after Kite, though I do like him and think he could be a good addition. I'll keep my team to those that we already have though.
1\. Tedesco - I hope is as good as he looked in the opener before he went down.
2\. Ryan - Or Grant if he shows some potential. We need a big, fast winger a la Pat Richards. Ryan should only be considered as a winger.
3\. Sironen - I think he could be a very good centre if he gets some decent ball with room to move. Alternatively develope him as a wide running back rower maybe a Glenn Stewart type.
4\. Lawrence
5\. Koroibete
6\. Benji
7\. Anasta - I think he could be a good organizing influence on the team. He has a good passing game and an excellent kicking game. I don't think the number on his back will dictate his role so could have been 6 and Benji 7.
8\. Woods
9\. Farah
10\. Galloway
11\. Fulton
12\. Bell - Or Moors, or Pettybourne, or Thompson, or BMM.
13\. Highington

14\. Blair - It was very hard for me to include him at all. Needs to be dropped to state cup if he bombs again, regardless of pay packet.
15\. BMM
16\. See 12 above
17\. Ayshford - A real utility. Can play in the outside backs, 5/8 at a pinch and has a future in the back row. In my opinion our best utility option.

I may have forgotten someone in there. I don't see Moltzen offering anything more than he already has, in our team at least, and his impact of the bench would be minimal I think. Sorry to those who think Utai is our number one wing option. Thanks for your consideration.

premiership winning side right here.

Big hard pack to start.
Fast attacking backline.

*Sironen CANNOT start from the bench given what he showed us. To do so would be absolutely insane (which is why i expect sheens to do it).

1\. Ryan/Tedesco
2\. Koribete
3\. Lawrence
4\. Marshall
5\. Ryan/Nofu
6\. Sironen
7\. Moltzen
8\. Woods
9\. Farah
10\. Pettybourne
11\. BMM
12\. Moors
13\. Anasta

14\. Heigno
15\. Galloway
16\. Fulton
17\. Blair
18\. Utai (he must be there, but i prefer him as a forward, front row maybe?? LOL)

The bench is where we win it in my opinion. Anasta is too similar to fulton for them to both start. Fulton is best with a tiring forward pack, so bring him on 25th minute or so.

Where exactly are we going to hide Marshall in the centres? Doesn't have the size or the technique to tackle…

1.James Tedesco
2.Marika Koroibete/John Grant
3.Lote Tuquiri/Curtis Sironen
4.Chris Lawrence
5.Matt Utai/David Nofoaluma
6.Benji Marshall
7.Braith Anasta
13.Adam Blair
12.Liam Fulton
11.Ben Murdoch-Masila
10.Keith Galloway
9.Robbie Farah
8.Aaron Woods

14.Bodene Thompson
15.Junior Moors
16.Eddy Pettybourne
17.Brent Kite

Bring him back through the NYC. He won't be ready for round 1 and I'd rather see him build up his match fitness and confidence in the 20's before deciding whether to promote him back to FG.

It appears most Forum members want Ashyford out of the centres and replaced with some with some speed.

Nobody doubts the heart of Ryan and Fulton but are these players game breakers? May the speed and size of Grant and Korro will be better choices on the wings?

Fulton has had a great year but still very small for a forward. Would benefit playing lock behind a big pack of forwards and big bench.

Blair needs to step up next week or spent some time in State Cup.

Like the idea of Marshall back at five eight

1 Tedesco
2 Ryan
3 Nofoaluma
4 Lawrence
5 Koroibete
6 Marshall
7 Anasta
8 Woods
9 Farah ©
10 Galloway
11 Pettybourne
12 Fulton
13 Blair

14 Fotuaika
15 Bell
16 BMM
17 Moltzen

Certainly not convinced with Anasta at half, however Benji must go back to 6\. I think Blair needs to put weight back on, spend more time in the middle and have a break during the game.

This side has the following omissions Utai (unlucky), Heighington, Sironen, Ayshford, Thompson, Meaney, Reddy, Iosefa, Moors (if signed), Kite (if signed would make the 17 over Bell). Not sure of the contract status of Miller & Humble.

Also given the other youngsters in Vela, Santi, Groat, Rowe etc, on paper the extended squad looks like it has some depth.

However I thought that this year. If we do have injuries we need to replace with the next best option in THAT position, not shuffling the whole side around to compensate.

I wonder if we will go with the Baby Tigers?? a big possibility.

Id like to see something like this.

1\. Tedessco
2\. Ryan
3\. Lawrence
4\. Nofaluma
5\. Korobete
6\. Sironen
7\. Benji
13\. Blair
12\. Anasta
11\. Fulton
10 Woods
9\. Farah
8\. Galloway

Bench
BMM
Pettybourne
Bell
Ayshford

I expect to see Moltzen, Utai, Vela, Fotakia and Thompson throughout the year as well, possibly even Lovett and Santi.

A part from the obvious issues like attitude, no penalty for non performance, inconsistency, etc the problem we have is with the backup people and by this I don't mean they are not capable, this year they just didn't get picked in run on positions. I can see what Sheens tried to do and this was based on the philosophy that you are better off having all your experienced/best players on the field no matter what position they play. This decision could have be driven by loyalty, or lack of confidence in back up players, stubbornness or all of the above. Any which way you look at it I think that this was the root of most of our problems. Why? If you look at the seasons our key people had and the lack of cohesion in both the defence & attack the of the Team our best were reduced to rank amateurs. Think Benji at half/5/8 Beau at centre/ Fullback/, Robbie at hooker/ half, Chris at centre/ 5/8 Blake centre/ 5/8 Liam hooker/ 2nd row/ 5/8.

So in a round about sort of way I am saying that the key to a top 4 position lies not in how many injuries you have but more in the backup players you have & the confidence you must have to put them in when a key player gets injured and not change the position of the other key players to try & compensate.

I have watched most NYC & Bret games this year and I personally would not have had a problem with giving the likes of Miller/Chisholm/ koribete/ grant/ Simona/ politini/nofaluma a consistent run of more than 10 mins per game.

The bottom line is if we are going to select a 2013 team we need to pick it by position & backup..not just position
