Potter at pains to play Brooks

Brooks is a player of the future, not a smart move to pick him because we are desperate, give Miller another go imo.

We need to stick with Miller in the next game unless Benji has a miracle return.
We are OUT of Kickers (goal Kickers) and at least Miller has been in 1st grade.

Im no coach, just applying logic.

Regardless, like many WT fans i will be at the game to cheer the boys on

My belief is we go with Miller. Why? Brooks is a player of the future. The Future. At 18 he has time on his side and I believe that with the injury situation as it stands. It's not the time to bring in him in. I would be fast tracking him though. Give him a few weeks in NSW Cup and if in that time Miller does not still shape up, then bring him in. In the short term, we need more experience on the park, especially in key positions. Having a spine of Tedesco, Sironen, Brooks and Farah whilst great in 18 months time, doesn't look so good right now.

It's a sad state we are in… But without trying to be negative and write of this year - things don't look good and thus, I just don't see much good coming from rushing in our young gun 7- Luke Brooks .. Like most people suggest, he looks the goods and 2014 should be his year but to bring him up when we are clearly struggling.. ( we are struggling even when we had most on the park)...

I'm hoping the silver lining of his year is he experience our younger guys are already getting, but Brooks is different as he's a key position back who's very very young.

Like to see him smash up the u20s comp and maybe even play him in reserve grade at back end of year and then a full off season with the big boys and 2014 is a new year.

I just hope we seriously review our guys who are responsible for strength and conditioning etc... Cause it seems we keep getting these injuries and they are not just minor tweaks
Where does it end... We surely need a fresh outlook anyway irrespective if there's no hard evidence

I didn't even think about that - with Benji, Anasta, Molzten, Lawrence out, that is all of our recognised goal kickers except Sirro and Miller? And I use the term "recognised" lightly.

I agree 100%.If you have seen Brooks play, you would know he is not ready as yet.

I still believe there is more to the Miller thing that's being made out. While he hasnt played brilliantly, he hasnt gone out and made a mess of things either, considering experience and tenure. Potter is already desperate for options, and to throw a kid in with hardly any NYC experience and absolute no FG experience over Miller tells me there's more stuff going down at the club with Miller than we are all lead to believe. especially as it will be for only a few rounds (until Anasta returns).

What exactly Miller has done beyond his normal duties I don't know, but there is certainly must be something.

You do realise no young player debuts in first grade as the finished object right? He'll have deficiencies in his game whenerv he debuts.

While he would provide the direction and kicking game our team sorely lacks, i think physically he should be given more time, and a run in nsw cup if Miller is picked (which he should be, whether he deserves it or not). Unless as Justo says he's done something behaviour wise which explains his demotion.

There has always been stories about his attitude, dont know if they are true, but this could be playing a role.

pure conjecture on my behalf.

I think you may be onto something there Goose. I remember watching him a lot in NYC, and it was as if he played/carried himself like a spoilt brat, almost as if his S#$T didn't stink. Don't get me wrong, that can work in your favour if you have the talent to back it - after all arrogance can stem brilliance. I also think we have enough spoilt brats in FG which could be the problem as well.

I also can't help but think Farah has a big role in him not playing. Can't put my finger on it exactly, and all here say, though the game where Farah was benched there seemed to be a lot of tension between them. To me it wasn't a under pressure tension, it appeared to be something that was residual and had been there for some time.

All my opinion, based on nothing but an uneducated view of an outsider looking in. I could be completely off mark here as I have been before.

Its funny a few weeks ago many pple on here wanted Brooks to be our HB, now that prospect is likely pple are saying he's not ready….how old was Mitchel Pearce when he made his FG debut?...17/18 I believe...There is nothing like experience to accelerate ones development....if the kid is good enough he's ready...yes, he'll make mistakes and may not blossom until 2014/15 but imagine what sort of a player he'll be with all that experience under his belt...if he's good enough...

I'd be going with Miller. At least we know what to expect there. Throwing an 18 year old into the key position seems pretty desperate.

whats the worst could happen if he does get a run. he gets targeted and we lose. whoever plays 7 this weekend will get targeted. Also a very good chance we'll lose. So roll the dice Pottzy. Could be the rookie of the year decision or it could be a lesson he's not ready yet. Half a dozen in one hand 6 in the other. Or this case it's a 7.

I think you will find that Brooks has already had a few games in State Cup this year. Miller offers little, particularly in the area of setting up tries. He can kick and he can take the line on.

I would give Brooks a run - it has to happen sometime.

'science' plays a big role in determining whether a young man is ready nowadays.

1/ what weights is he Lifting, Not just when fresh but under fatigue
2/ how much growing he has left
3/ stamina, fitness
4/ injury history
5/ bloods?

These things vary greatly in 18 years olds.

I'd be guessing the strength & conditioning and physio guys have a big say, whereas in part times, the coach maybe asked the kids parents and the junior coach if they were happy to go with it…

Totally agree, and at times it looked like he only did the minimum requirement in NYC.

I would play him this week purely based on that he can kick and trained with the squad all off season.

made a thread about that in round 2 or so. People (and myself) thought i might be reading into the tensions between farah and miller too much but if miller is not selected this week i think it's quite clear farah or miller's attitude (or both) has stopped him. What's odd is the Mole said miller wanted to leave but tigers tried to get him to stay????

Personally, brooks sirro could work. But miller sirro would be okay too. Brooks is only there for one game so i wouldnt be tooo concerned about him getting injured; that tends to happen when you throw someone not ready for the strength required in 1st grade and play them week after week.

I agree. Give Brooks a go. I can't see any better options. He will be ok, but probably nothing amazing yet.

It's not fair on Robbie to shift him to 7 leading into Origin.

Did not Tim Brasher get a call up to Tigers first grade at the age of 17 years? I was slightly reluctant about Brooks at first but I now wholeheartedly say give him a first grade jumper for this Friday at least. With Sironen at five eighth I believe that Brooks will not let us down, Come on Mick show a bit of flair for a change!
