Potter Gone - Contract Not renewed! Official!

What a load of BS this statement is" "**Mick Potter had been given three opportunities over the past six weeks to address the Board** and present his vision and plan for Wests Tigers going forward. **Taking this into account, the Wests Tigers Board and management agree that a fresh approach is needed"…**
The Board has been in place for less than 2 weeks....why would Potter address an outgoing Board who would not be making the decision on his future!!.....They way Mayer wrote that statement implies Potter had the opportunity to address the Board but didn't take it up...therefore sealed his own fate.....what a load of BS from Mayer!...and the new Board as they presumably sanctioned this release....

Yes you now have to question how the new board have allowed Mayer to have written this statement! Poor start for the new board!

Look I really like Potter as a bloke. He has held himself so well considering all the BS he has had along the way.

Was he the best guy for the job though? I don't know. I really don't believe we saw the best out of him purely due to the injuries he's had to deal with for the last two seasons, let alone the off-field nonsense. When we could get a top squad on the park we looked the goods.

Did he deserve another contract? Yeah I reckon he did.

The reason purely being because I believe there are so many other people who deserve to go before him. Yeah, I realise were discussing the head coach, but maybe if he had some competent professionals surrounding him he would've been more successful.

Kidwell - our defence coach, where was our defence this year?

Payten - there for a giggle with his old mates?

Mayer - started strongly in the role but has proved he is just a tactical manipulator who plays on twitter and hides when the going gets tough.

Our strength & conditioning/rehab team - enough said. Sack the lot, Skando with his little Tafe certificate. Screw this jobs for the boys rubbish.

Our board - a weatherman, an Olympic swimmer, and some other knobs with too much pride of former clubs to look to the future.

Even our membership team sucks.

I just hope that with Mick gone there is many more to follow, he didn't deserve this crap. But my hat goes off to you mate, you handled it like a true professional, pity you just weren't surround by any others.

Exactly right, if Mick goes then the lot must go.

Well said 'alexaki'.
And therein lies the problem, the BS from Mayer, new board sucked in. Clean slate? Same old, same old. Mess Tigers.
Really looking forward to our new start, eh fellas?

mick went because his contract was up. everyone you mentioned (probably bar mayer) will eventually be sacked/ leave imo. potter hasnt been sacked, he's just not been renewed as far as the board is concerned.

in the statement it says, the new HC will get to bring his entire support staff- that means the NRL has loaded us up with money for now. now it's up to the board/mayer to sort out the mess.

changes start with the top. the board is gone, the HC is gone. assistants, S&C etc. will come later.

I like this quote

Clearly there will be many disappointed fans as, to his credit, Mick has developed a strong following here. However, we ask that you trust that we have made this decision in the interests of a stronger, unified club, following a rigorous and fair process.

It justifies that Mick is not being renewed due to any of his failures, but previous board decisions made his contract renewal impossible. I hope he gets a gig somewhere else where management will support him.

**Sheens is gone, the board is gone and now Potter is gone.** Fresh slate, excellent kids, new beginning. Lets find a new home more in line with our geographical supporter base and really give this comp a shake.

Benji is gone and for a truly fresh start another player should go.

When does Robbie select the new coach?

Give it a break!!!!!
A new start with a new board and a new coach is what was needed.
Are we going to have put up with the same old garbage on here all over again for the next few seasons . **There's just the odd chance that the board will select the new coach on the recommendation of Mayer, that's what really scares me. Then we really will have something to whinge about**

Especially when Mayer himself has said he doesn't have nor need a great football knowledge as he is the CEO not football manager.

The possible delay in announcing the new coach until possibly the end of October would surely be because they aim to have a GM signed up by then, and the GM would have a critical role to play in the hiring of the coach.

Mayer will have next to nothing to do with the team next season. He'll be running the business, and no more. the GM will be doing all the football related work.

And to those who don't seem to understand - it is a clean slate as Potter's tenure has been questioned and undermined from the beginning and so he has been under pressure in the media. A new coach won't be questioned week after week throughout the off season, nor will they be questioned on a daily basis during the season. They will be given time and judged on performance, and yes if the team is losing they will be questioned (as all coaches would be).

A new coach will bring new assistants and hopefully new S+C staff too. Sounds like a pretty fresh start to me.

New footy GM, new HC, new assistants, new S+C staff.

Yes the CEO will still be there for now but none of you have any facts to base any of your comments off, only speculation from the media. The CEO will be there to run the business and make us a profitable company. Mayer seems good at that sort of stuff, and less so with the management of people, which will largely fall under the GM role.

In the end if the CEO, captain and players don't respect the coach he can't be doing that much right.

Poor Mick, he's been deep-sixed by the Tigers and all he got was a lousy hessian bag for Christmas. Hope the next coach isn't treated as poorly as Potter was. And for the record, I don't care who is appointed, as long as our results on the field improve.

Ok, so the exterminators have been and gone but the two biggest rat's in the nest, Mayer and Farah are still standing.

Nothing will change next year, while those two are gnawing away at the foundations.

I said when Sheens was coaching that the guy who came along after him would be a sacrificial lamb, and lo and behold.

The difference between these two is big business(mayer)is full of rats and rats sadly succeed. However with the mateship and inner strength qualities associated with a first grader(farah)a rat type mentality wont work and whilst robbie may flourish the club around him will refuse to shed blood like the soldiers we want them to be.

I have to disagree 'Balmain'. From my perspective Mick Potter was not "questioned week after week" by the media. From what I read, for the most part, the media were supportive of Potters, the teams performance. What the media were questioning was, why is Potter in the spotlight when he seems to be doing a god job? To my way of thinking the scrutiny was directed, not at Potter but at 'other elements' within the club. Those elements are still there with Mick Potter the scapegoat, so no, for those who don't seem to understand, more a whitewash than a fresh start.

Where are the facts to back this? I haven't seen any.

of course he won't be.
the board and ceo are hiring him.
they had no ties to potter.

this new hire is on their rep,and i bet there won't be any public reviews going on every 6 months.

Can someone explain to me why so many people want Anthony Griffin?

Looking at his situation, he seems to have gained some sympathy because of the way he as shafted for Bennett (which I admit is poor form). But most Broncos fans are happy he has been replaced. Among the chief criticisms:

- Poor team selection
- Poor tactics
- Playing players out of position
- Rarely takes a risk
- Persists with a lack of size in forwards (among the smallest props in NRL)
