Potter Gone - Contract Not renewed! Official!

What are people's opinions on Griffin as a coach?
With the side he has at his disposal in Brisbane his results should be better, how much of that is due to his coaching ability though I don't know.

I think he did a good job building a very young team after Bennett loft. He lost some very experienced players and rebuilt the squad around Parker and Thaiday. Hunt is now being talked about as an exceptional halfback, whereas two years ago he was possibly going to be traded.

I think he has a personality which will warrant the respect of both the board and the players and could be the gel to bring it all together.

Yeah Griffin probably represents the best of what is available. Can we afford him though?
You'd like to think that the new board understands the importance of paying for good coaching…

Disappointed potter wasn't reappointed. Given a "fresh start", i.e. 100% support & autonomy I think he'd do as good a job as any. Hope is replacement is really given this opportunity.

I wonder if folkes is in the running at all?

Ah well at least the new head coach will get to pick his own support staff, as for Mayer if the club fails to make the finals next year I hope he steps down or gets the ass as the board has made a decision on his recommendation.

………he simply had to go. There would be too much ongoing speculation every week as long as Potter was still around.
Does he have the support of Mayer?
Of Farah?
Of the playing group?
Of the board?
This would have been asked every week that Potter was our coach, even more if we were losing.

Do you really think that sacking Mick Potter will change the ongoing speculation?? From my perspective his sacking merely confirms that there is a rat in the very ranks you mentioned above that he required the 'support' of.
Many people within the NRL expressed opinions that Mick Potter was doing a good job. Sacking a hobbled scapegoat does not clean the slate. If you think a new coach represents a 'clean slate' I think you are fooling yourself because the speculation about who the rat is will continue especially if we are losing.
What a mess.

Griffin's record doesn't exactly read super coach. However he has done ok and seems like the players put in for him every week. Thats the things about Broncos they never threw in the towell. They always looked motiated. He has made some hard calls up there which is something i like. He would also have the numbers of a lot of promising young players up there that might want a crack.

To be honest at the moment I would lean towards him at this stage. I think it's a job for a man with a thick skin and he seems the best option out there.

How anyone could vouch for Parish is beyond me. He lasted what 5 games in England? He quit a terrible Canbeera mid season? Sorry but he just looks like a grub! Had to say it!

so sorry mick thanks for your effort over the last 2 years its been a tough gig but you handle it with so much dignity but as you know good guys run last in this game. all the best to you and your family good luck mr nice guy

I couldn't have put this statement better.
Thank you Mick Potter for what you tried to do at the Wests Tigers. Good Luck for the future :master:

The board made the call most people thought would happen. Time will tell if it was the right call and most people would agree that Potter was shafted basically from day one, but thats not unusual in the life of a NRL coach.

Now they must act swiftly and get in a new person asap. We needed a new coach yesterday and if we have to wait till late October to have our new person taking charge we are putting our self behind the eightball. A lot of horse trading will be done and dusted by mid October, so who is making these calls now??? I get the feeling our new man will be given basically the same roster as Mick had.

Anyway the new board must act swiftly and smartly, two things the past board were not good at

Thanks mick for all your hard work, I hope the board has made the right decision, I guess we will have to wait and see next year

On a side note
I hope we either get Taylor or Griffin

I agree with Eddie's comment; I was happy for Potter to stay - until the last month or so when it became clear that, through no fault of his, there would be no resolution to the disharmony and speculation until he moved on. I congratulate Potter on handling himself magnificently during the difficult times he has experienced at Weststigers.

this was very simple from the start of the mayer reign at wests tigers.
potter was not hired by the current ceo.
this is all about mayer not potter.

in saying that,i've never felt great confidence in potter, but i don't think many would with the deck stacked against them, like potter did.

Griffin wouldn't have much of an asking price. We're the only club in the market for a coach I think and he just lost his first head coach job. Not like anyone has tried to poach him.

Who ever gets the head coach role with total control as the new board has stated, will be expected to take the Weststigers to a top four finish. In 2015
Anything less than this with untied hands and the talent within the team, will be deemed a failure.
I suspect that we will be in the market at the end of 2015 looking for a new coach!

To come out and state that the new coach will have full control must really hurt Potter and his family.

I feel his treatment should be a case for the integrity committee.

What a mess.

It wont change the opinions of people who react to every rumour and innuendo, and who base their views on every piece of rubbish that is written, or said, even if it is not backed up with any facts. So no ….. the speculation will never stop with some people.

feel sorry for potter. possibly the worst situation to end up in at your first role as a head coach of an NRL team.

wish him luck. we now have the money from the NRL so the next coach wont be the cheapest option available.

in saying that, i have no faith in any of the mentioned prospects.

We won't make the 8 next year, or the year after that. I don't think we'll make the 8 ever again tbh because I think we'll get punted before we do.
