I would prefer to wait as well. If its him he would be crazy to move as he would know that success is sustainable and hence he would want to benefit from that success.

I don't have a strong opinion though. From my seat in the grandstand it is hard to see who is responsible for the improvement in the team.

Farah seems more settled and focused on his role - him or coach? Both?
Aggression has increased dramatically - Taupau and Gavet influence or Kidwell, or Potter, or Roach? Perhaps a combination
Team being steared around the park better… Brooks vs Benji, or Anasta stepping up, Assistants or Potter?

I trust that Mayer will consult with those who actually have the info that will enable him to make a good decision.

Seeing us take the Cows up the middle and it being successful last week was the one of the few times I was inclined to believe he has a head for strategy. My guess is our 20's coach has a head for strategy.

Sounds like you are looking for any reason NOT to give Potter the credit….

Mick is the Head Coach in 2014 he has HIS team of assistants working for him...therefore Potter should get ALL the credit for success just like he would for failure. :sign:

Agreed….credit where credit in due. Mick is head coach. Buck starts and stops with him

What's the go with crediting the 20's coach? Let's add the Physio and the cleaner and the groundskeeper and the ticket taker but not the head coach!!

His a different man this year Mr Potter. Like I said before I feel he is actually very close to giving one of the players a hug real soon….not sure who but maybe Noffa or Gavet.

I respect Coach Potter ,he came to the club last season knowing he was going to get bashed by all and sundry and he did it for a pittance ,the media trashed him some players did the same and left. The culture at the club was crap and most players were under performing enter Mick Potter …new structure ..new assistant coaches ...new players ...new vision..new culture and to be honest all of this on a relatively short time. A team that is playing direct and a tough brand of football get this signature soon as I am sure others are noticing.

Spot on

So he should be re-signed, the people bagging him after last season were off their heads, he needed at least another season or two before he could be judged.

Last season he inherited a patch-work team full of injuries, I couldn't believe the flak he copped, no coach could have done any better with the players we had missing for extended periods.

Entirely agree; it was just insane and anyone stupid enough to have judged him under the circumstances he inherited isn't worth hearing from.

So now he has what he wants in a team.. Let's see how he goes after the first real year he has a team he has made. I'm surprised some of you guys havnt bought GF TICKETS.

Can't judge him after 6 Games.

Yeah, long way to go but a great start to the season.I hate saying it but the Team in general & Robbie in particular look a lot sharper/cleaner without Benji jumping around demanding the ball in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Let's wait until 2017 - maybe we can get him to sign on, one match at a time and maybe he could pay us for the privilege of coaching us.

Don't need to go into what he inherited - another's team, another's staff and the worst injury toll by a club in NRL history. Also a divided club (for Benji and against Benji). Mr potter fixed all the problems he has control of - he can't control injuries. We are in the top 4

I can remember heaps of people on this Forum saying before the season started " if we win 2 or 3 out of the first 8 we would be going really well and he should be signed".

Now let's do a Joe Hockey and move the goal posts. Don't know how Pat is doing so well.

HE is the Head Coach - he is responsible (or is it only if we go bad) - Maybe it is the SG Ball coach that should get all the accolades, He is doing so well despite having Mr Roach on board - Remember him - he is the football brain he said Robbie wasn't Origin material. Hey Steve - go bag your head. Obviously wouldn't know a good footballer if you fell over one. You might have thought it but you don't bag your own.

On topic - give him a few more games at your peril ( tie his hands behind his back as well, no Teddy, no Robbie). See how well the Storm go without Slater and Smith. They'll be lining up soon - especially Saints - he did play for them - Remember!!!

T Rex is right

We shouldn't judge potter until we've seen if he can get a team into the finals on 3 occasions in 15 years like sheens did

Yeah Payten, Kidwell and Webster would struggle to coach without Potter.. :unamused:

Mick Potter set to remain at Wests Tigers after strong start to NRL season

Wests Tigers coach Mick Potter could earn a contract extension next month following the club's strong start to the season.

Potter, who is off contract at the end of the year, was almost sacked last season as the club slumped to a 15th-placed finish.

However, the board held its nerve and now has its reward, a four-from-six start to the club's premiership campaign before the Easter Monday blockbuster against an equally resurgent Parramatta at ANZ Stadium.

Potter is part of a new-look coaching team this year which includes assistants Todd Payten and David Kidwell, the latter a contender for the top job at the Warriors.

It's understood an assessment will be made on Potter following the opening 10 rounds of the season by a new board which will include three independent NRL-appointed directors. The future of the coach will be one of the top items on the agenda when it is formed, most likely within a fortnight.

"We've got to get the board in place, that's the most important thing first and foremost," Tigers chief Grant Mayer said.

"Over the first six weeks of the competition, Mick has done everything right. In regards to any contract negotiations, you've got to put your best foot forward. He's doing that, the team is helping him do that and there's no doubt when it comes down to having those conversations, those results will play a big part in him going forward."

The Tigers were ravaged by injury last year and the fallout from Benji Marshall's switch to rugby. The club will again be without two of its biggest stars, captain Robbie Farah and fullback James Tedesco, against the Eels due to injury. However, the club appears in a better position to deal with the setbacks after recruiting well during the off-season.

One of those buys, NSW hopeful Pat Richards, said he would support an extension of Potter's tenure.

"Yeah, why not? He's getting the best out of us at the moment and doing a fine job," Richards said.

"It would have been testing for him last year with everything going on, but from the moment I got into the joint, he's been great with me."

Tigers forward Adam Blair said the players had sensed a change in Potter's outlook this year.

"He seems a little bit more relaxed, as everyone would be – myself included – when the pressure's not on," Blair said.

"When you're winning, everything seems to be going all right, and when times are tough, you find out a little bit more about yourself.

"He's been great this year. From the start of the pre-season he pushed us really hard and got the things out of us that we needed to work on.

"With the addition of Kidwell and Toddy, it helps a lot. They're all voicing their opinions on how the staff should be working together as a group to push us on to better things."

You'd imagine after 18 months in the job and with his own staff ,own playing talent and the team far more used to the changes he has implemented that things would look better

I think Round 10 is an ideal time to take stock of his performances

Time to put signature on paper. Sign him for an extension now and let him do his job without worrying about his future. He is the man.

Even now, he doesn't have his own troops. A coach needs 3 years to start with. The first is a write off as he inherits an under performing team, the second a few changes are made and some improvement should take place and the third he can pretty much assemble his team for a decent year. Last years calls for his axing was complete stupidity.

Correct. I just think he deserves more time. I would have even resigned him last year because he seemed to be going okay based on what he was working with.
