Potter re-signing tonight/tomorrow

Is Matt Parish the one?

I hope he never steps one foot anywhere near our club. I have heard from many players where he has been an assistant coach - they all think he is a drop kick of the highest order (putting it very nicely). I don' think he will ever be a head coach at NRL level.

Blocker pn NRL 360.
Kent: "Should Mick Potter be the coach in 2015?"
Blocker: "we'll see where he finishes this year. "

Coming from a member of his coaching staff, that doesn't sound all that positive…

Blockers just covering his butt

If he says yes that he stays and we lose every game by 40 he will look a fool

Blocker also knows where some of his bread is being buttered ,doesn't want to burn any bridges either way

Hopefully I'm reading too much into it Happy.
The positive is that usually when players, the ceo and board publicly back the coach they usually end up being punted. No one has said a thing in support of Potter.

blocker also blamed the nrl for taking 8 months to put in place the board, which i think is the only reason potter hasnt been re-signed.

i really cant for the life of me see why the club wouldnt re-sign him. i think the talk of this season not being a top 8 finish as being a failure is hyperbolic and ignoring realism.

with how the team played on the weekend i cant believe this issue hasn't been put to rest. at his initial inclusion in the side a lot of people were worried about how moses would go, and by how he went in his (3rd is it?) game, surely potter deserves credit for bringing him in as well?!

i would just be incredulous if they dont sign him on for another couple of years. i mean, really, what does the guy have to do?!!

Potter still the man?
The push by senior Wests Tigers players to oust coach Mick Potter is on the verge of back-firing.
After all-but sending Potter to walk the plank last week, the club is now seriously considering giving the embattled coach a new deal.
The Tigers' stunning win over the Bulldogs, coupled with a resistance against the players dictating terms to the board, have resulted in the backflip.
Chief executive Grant Mayer has also been put under massive pressure to back Potter from influential sections of the media.
If Potter does stay, there will be changes to the coaching structure.
Assistant coaches Todd Payten and David Kidwell are both likely to leave and the club is likely to hire a head of coaching to oversee Potter's work.

Crikey. Didnt we sack two assistant coaches last year because they couldnt gel with Potter? This is all very strange.

Aside from for and against we are in the 8 and performing better than most expected, despite copping some nasty injuries and releasing 3 players. What has Potter done that is so wrong in all of this?

Just as a matter of interest, would you please give your critical assessment of the performance of the " two assistant coaches last year because they couldn't gel with Potter?"
Do you consider they were top level performers, who along with Sheens, had produced RESULTS that were to be admired? :crazy

He's done nothing wrong. Even the 20/20 hindsight armchair experts would be flat out finding any major fault that eclipses all the positives. Look at last week. Results speak for themselves.

Easy solution - assume that everything you read/see in the media is a pile of garbage.
You'll very rarely be disappointed.

Dont assume we are all **believing** whats being said.
I think most take all this talk with a grain of salt
Official confirmation is official confirmation

That is, of course, unless the media is quoting this forum! Then it is (daisy chain) fact.

Give the fans what they want.

Don't let membership suffer.

Mick is the man.

When Teddy briefly left there was uproar, now with Potter the situation looks similar but this time nothing is holding the club back.

With the NRL having not decided on the make up of the Board, you'd think GM will go with the popular choice, that's if he's still interested in being around in the future. Get this wrong and every decision will be scrutinised in this wonder world of social media.

You have to love life as a supporter, they can hear us in detail now.

Go the WT

I recall reading that the NRL was looking to appoint the board members by the end of the month. If that's true this could all be resolved soon, but it was just a sentence in one of the papers so who knows?

You don't want the coach and the players to be best mates, but if and I say if their are real drams between the head coach and the players, than a solution must be found. This could be putting a director of coaching in place,it could be a meeting between the players and the coaching staff and the CEO to thrash out a resolution or rightly or wrongly it could mean getting a new coach

We just can't afford to have any real distractions if this team is going to go forward as everyone is predicting. If it was my call I would give Potter a two year deal and try and resolve any issues with the players through mediation ,I would stay clear of having a director of coaching

And the Director of coaching is…. who? Smith?? Nice manoeuvring if so on his part!

Remember that Payten was chosen by the board, not Potter.

At the end of the day if Todd leaves it will be best for him. I would love to have him back in the head coaching role at WT in the future, as I believe he should gain more experience - and probably from elsewhere - to become a more rounded coach.

Hope and pray that Matt Parish doesn't end up here. He has a coaching record of 1 win from 6 games with ESL club Salford and a winning ratio of 37% with the CQ Capras in the second strongest league competition in Australia.

Doesn't that make your mouth water.

Potters people skills are like Henry Kissenger compared to mullet man Parish. We would have a revolution on our hands at camp Concord

Hard to argue anything other than Potter has done at the very minimum a solid job in extremely challenging circumstances. He has also proven himself in ESL as an effective coach.
Critically, all his potential "replacements" who are available are either totally unproven at NRL level,or are proven failures!.
Why on earth wld we look elsewhere…?

Doesn't Potter have a clause in his contract that if we make the 8 this year he gets rewarded with another year anyway? If that is the case, all this speculation may be for nothing.

The board may simply decide to do nothing for the moment. Either we make the 8 and he gets another year or he doesn't and no offer is made. I don't see how the board can decide to move him on before this plays out unless we intend on paying two coaches and having another Sheens' situation.

Listening to Blocker on NRL 360, apparently we are waiting on the NRL to get our board sorted, so my understanding is that without a board, no decision will be made.

Potter has a track record of turning around worse clubs than ours, albeit in the UK. My gut feeling is he'll get us to the 8 and keep his job, but whatever happens, he's earned my respect.

Tonights episode has Johnny Gibbs sprouting Matt Parish as having a lot of support high up at our club….having previous links thru his dad yadda yadda

I wonder what tomorrows instalment will bring?

I'll tell you what Ink, if Potter has lost the battle of the sheds, Parish won't last one day. What's he ever done. What has been his career highlight as a player, which grade did he spend most time playing in, was he a rep, what teams has he coached, what was their success and what can he do at a club where the players (supposedly) turn when they don't like a coach. Going by what I have questioned, a super coach would have dramas.
Can you imagine Parish blasting Farah, first thing Farah would be thinking is how the XXXX would you know you're a nobody, but at the same time Parish would be thinking the same. It would never work, besides I don't won't him either. Compare him to Potter, you can't.
