It’s interesting how this finals series panned out. All year people acted as if it was a forgone conclusion of a Penrith vs Storm GF. Souths lose Latrell so they were given no chance and beat Penrith week 1. Melbourne destroy the red hot Manly. Manly beat a reserve grade team and that's enough for Souths to get written off again (at least by most the pregame panel on fox sports). Apparently the referee is the only reason Penrith beat Parra, so now Penrith are written off. Penrith come out firing and beat a red hot Melbourne. Form means nothing. Nobody knows anything.
Big choke from Storm, however still enormous effort but you can't win them all. This game was the exclamation point in losing Cam Smith and his leadership, they were lost. Storm were feeling bitter about coming so close after losing their 2 best players to unfortunate circumstances, but it just be that way sometimes. I'm proud of their massive effort even though they fluffed it. As for Penrith, respect for them backing up the last 2 weeks with that effort - no idea how they kept it up. Fully deserved the win, but I wonder how much gas they have left to take on Souths again next week. What a belter of a game!
