TEAM LIST Pre-season Challenge Round 2 vs. Raiders

Team List
Key points from Sheens radio appearance:

- Api and Brooks not risked due to trial. Brooks was the issue from last year. Api twinged something last Friday...no major concern, just not worth the risk for a trial.

- Players voted in the captain (coaches had a say too) and Api polled really highly.

- Leadership group outside of captain also formed from this.

- Bateman waiting on police report/check before being allowed to enter. Says major hurdle seems done. No date yet on arrival.

-Was disappointed with last weeks trial. The young players should have learnt a lot about doing the little things in a game and that training is only one thing, but it needs to come together on game day.......also one player learnt that travelling to NZ requires you to go to the international airport...not domestic 🤣

Twal defensively gives you a tackler but not solid first up contact. Unless he addresses this it’s the main reason he will never play origin imo

But when he played lock his results were vastly different to the extent Fittler called him up to the train on squad for SOO 1.

Nice. Twal is a must in the 17 somewhere somehow.

I think he is the best defensive middle who can play massive minutes in the game. And he regularly makes well over 100m in attack as well.

Personally I'd have on the bench, come on after 20 or 25 minutes and lock the middle down for the rest of the game. I know many argue he lacks impact off the bench, but that can be Stef and or Pole.

I agree. Klemmer has a tackle efficiency rate similar to Twal mixed with Api and we could have a very effective defensive middle formation rotational wise as the game goes on. Joffa is also good. Stef and Pole I would be using as bash and barge go hard style players they could be massive for us.

A number of players get called up to squad doesn’t mean that they will make it
Sometimes it’s just for development or cupboard is bare
I do believe he could make it pending on who is available. But if he had a dominant tackle it would put him in the conversation every year

Right now he is a mile off, agree he needs something extra to his value add. An offload (really hope Laurie and Brooks run off his hip) or even jink at the line would be amazing.

Not too sure what all the fuss is about. It is a trial and we have plenty of people needing to demonstrate that they have what it takes to be in the 17. If Sheens and Co already know they are capable and in the 17 they can rightly sit them on the bench or sit them out.

After last week we are no chance of taking home any coin so why not use it for what it is - a trial.

Without being in the discussion none of us know what Sheens is looking at or why (It would be nice to know of course).

I'm not concerned at all with what the backline looks like - I expect it to be rotated a bit so that different combinations can be viewed. My hope is that we get to see Daino at 6, AD and Naden/AJ/To'a in the centres at some point. That will satisfy my curiosity.

No issues with seeing how Twal goes at lock or Seyfath teamed up with Papa at the start. They will be rotated and Sheens and Co, along with the players themselves will learn from the experience.

Will we win - probably not. Do we need to? No

Do we give a rats - of course. But in the big scheme of things does it really matter?

Did he say who was in the leadership group or does anyone know who’s in the leadership group this year?

Jolls, I also think a trial is a chance to give your proposed style a run and a tweak where necessary. With the dropouts and subs I don’t think that’s going to happen.
So are the coaching staff prepared to go into the first premiership games “cold”.
That’s starting to concern me.

Plenty of size, power and experience in the starting line up and our 14-24 all look capable of playing plenty of NRL throughout the season, so I’m expecting a win on Sunday.

All that depends on how confident the Coaching Staff are with what they are seeing on the training paddock.

I expect that a close to round 1 team will be on the paddock; but not until the second half after the younguns have run out of a bit of energy.

No concerns from me yet.

Winning doesn’t matter. Performance does. Habits formed in these games will flow into the season. Need to see effort on effort.

Blore has had a small injury recently.

Was training in the rehab group at the recent Field Day.

Seyfarth started on the right edge in the opposed session that day, so am not surprised to see him there.
These small injuries seem to be adding up KR.
How small is small, small enough to not risk someone in our last trial , or small enough that it’s going to be more than just the trial they miss ? I’m mainly talking Brooks., API and Joffa here.
