Tony whether you pick a good or bad squad you go for the win , no questions asked
When you have 11 players missing because of injury and rep duties do you pick a squad to win or praying no one gets injured ??
People seem to forget this club is still in major debt and every cent is crucial
If we had thrown the ball about v The Roosters and at least tried to get a result you wouldn't be hearing boo from me whether the side was forward heavy or not
Happy i understand what your saying but your not comprehending my point.
What I'm saying is you think we didn't go for the win based on the one out stuff and our reluctance to throw it around against the roosters.
What I'm saying is we couldn't do that because of the squad that was available. Our team was dominated by forwards and only one playmaker because of the limited players we had available and as such were not able to execute a game plan effective enough for the nines format.
Just because they didn't throw it around you cant assume "we didn't want to win". Sometimes circumstances force your hand and as JT said in a radio interview before the tournament, we simply had to patch a squad together for the nines and go from there.
Now with the squad that we picked did you honestly think we had any chance of winning the comp ? JT isn't stupid either he would've known we were 100-1 odds of winning the tournament with the squad available.
So would you have dedicated time and effort into a nothing tournament that you knew you couldn't win or would you have used that time and the event itself to prepare for the NRL season and a much more improved finish ?
JT wouldn't have said "oh guys we can't win this lets just throw in the towel" but he would have approached it with the NRL season in mind and worked towards the ultimate goal - a top 8 finish in the NRL.
That Doesn't mean they were worried about players getting injured and lost on purpose. It just means they valued the NRL season more highly, which the majority of people do.
Reaching the quarter finals and walking away with the extra $50,000 is a bonus and would have boosted the confidence around the place.
