Happy, do you believe we should go into the trials with a win at all cost attitude or go into the games to practice and access the structures and playing styles that Taylor and Co are trying to implement?

Very good question. One thing you can tell about Taylor is he hates losing but he is smart enough to look at the bigger picture.Lose the battle to win the war if you like.

As I said earlier trials are exactly that , trials There is no money riding on them and are unlikely to have people betting on them

A good result and the team performing well would be an added bonus

They are like the games we will face for competition points 13 on 13 same attacking and defensive attitudes

The 9's are completely different

Tony whether you pick a good or bad squad you go for the win , no questions asked

When you have 11 players missing because of injury and rep duties do you pick a squad to win or praying no one gets injured ??

People seem to forget this club is still in major debt and every cent is crucial

If we had thrown the ball about v The Roosters and at least tried to get a result you wouldn't be hearing boo from me whether the side was forward heavy or not

If we had thrown the ball about you would half the forum melting down about Taylor not having an effect and how things will never change.

I actually believe the trials are far important than a 9's competition. I would be extremely disappointed if the side spent any time training for the 9's. We have a new coaching staff that is trying to implement massive changes to the way we play the game.

As for your point about people betting on the game, I could care less about people placing bets, they do so knowing the risk at a tournament like the 9's. If they didn't do their research and look at the side we named then they have no complaints, that side was never going to win the 9's. Now if JT was worrying about the people placing bets on games we are involved in a would have serious doubts over his integrity as our coach.

Unlike yourself , I understand the difference between 9's and NRL games

And even then , when you get caught in catch up you may need to throw the ball around

I think I would struggle to half the Forum as well , even I have my limitations

Can't remember the last time people were putting so much emphasis on pre-season results.

Pre-season results mean absolutely nothing. They are about setting yourself up for the season proper. You play to your structures no matter the game situation to ensure you are ready come round 1\. That is what JT was doing on the weekend.

In 2005 after our final trial most of the media was tipping us to be fighting for the spoon..

Of course the trials are more important , but that's not my argument

Imagine what upgrades the club could have afforded if we had won the game v the Roosters

Betting is a part of the game , I don't formally bet on Tigers games (you'd be mad if you did )

My point still stands we try and win every game that isn't trial related These young kids are going to need every drop of confidence in 2015 if they have any chance of being successful as a team

9's games were for money

Yes the 9's are completely different. They are at the bottom end of the scale and well below the level of trials. The 9's are a glorified game of touch football.

Happy i understand what your saying but your not comprehending my point.

What I'm saying is you think we didn't go for the win based on the one out stuff and our reluctance to throw it around against the roosters.

What I'm saying is we couldn't do that because of the squad that was available. Our team was dominated by forwards and only one playmaker because of the limited players we had available and as such were not able to execute a game plan effective enough for the nines format.

Just because they didn't throw it around you cant assume "we didn't want to win". Sometimes circumstances force your hand and as JT said in a radio interview before the tournament, we simply had to patch a squad together for the nines and go from there.

Now with the squad that we picked did you honestly think we had any chance of winning the comp ? JT isn't stupid either he would've known we were 100-1 odds of winning the tournament with the squad available.

So would you have dedicated time and effort into a nothing tournament that you knew you couldn't win or would you have used that time and the event itself to prepare for the NRL season and a much more improved finish ?

JT wouldn't have said "oh guys we can't win this lets just throw in the towel" but he would have approached it with the NRL season in mind and worked towards the ultimate goal - a top 8 finish in the NRL.

That Doesn't mean they were worried about players getting injured and lost on purpose. It just means they valued the NRL season more highly, which the majority of people do.

Reaching the quarter finals and walking away with the extra $50,000 is a bonus and would have boosted the confidence around the place.

I DO NOT care that betting is a part of the game. If our coach EVER for one second considers the implication on the betting markets of a decision he is making then he should be sacked immediately. His job is to coach the team and prepare them for the NRL season not make it easier for punters to win $.

Yes the extra money would have been nice, but again JT's job is to prepare the side for the NRL season. If he believes that is better achieved by using the 9's as a chance to test his structures instead of trying to win a mickey mouse tournament then so be it.

As to the confidence issue, I think the players would have gained more confidence by seeing the structures they have been implementing working in the 2 games they won, you know the 2 games that everyone expected them to lose. They now can go away having more confidence in the ideas the coaching staff are trying to implement.

Just seems like people are going out of their way to be outraged at things, perhaps brought on by excess boredom from a lack of footy.
