LIVE GAME Preseason Challenge v Canterbury

Live Game Discussion
The worrying signs for me were:

1) The halves had us running too laterally in attack without penetration which was very similar to last year (yes yes it's a trial but you'd imagine they'd be running these structures at training with a full squad)
2) Defence looked pretty disorganised close to the line, lacking ferocity and intent

I was fairly happy with all that.
Disregarding individuals and looking at the big picture imo it wasn't too bad.
We competed for 80.
Defense as a whole wasn't too bad, pretty aggressive.
Very few dumb plays brain snaps... They seemed to play for each other tho Galvin overdid it a bit early.
Hard to gauge fitness with so many players on & off
Attitude was good
I thought one of the major highlights of today was that lovely lady in our coaches box. I’m still not sure what she does but I’m glad she’s there.
I thought they had a dip, made a few silly errors ( highlight no 24 for us, who made about 5 on his own) but apart from that it was fair.
Watching the following game I was interested to hear that Flanagan was going to give his big guns about 30 mins this game and 30 the next.
Has anyone got an update on S. Fainu toe injury ? Saw him hobbling around after the game !

Been running like that for 3 years ! Our attacking and defensive systems still look mediocre imo but hopefully our super spine will help correct that next week..
And please don’t tell me Matamua is any sort of lock. I hope Bird can fill that breach coz it’s an ongoing weakness for us.

Our halves are average. Both Latu and tannous are not first grade. What is Benji teaching them?
Bit harsh on Latu, think he still showed promise in his quite game. He hasn’t had a lot of game time, I personally would have given him another 15 minutes in the second half. Just rushed, pushed up a little early after injuries, just give him more time.

A ball playing lock needs the middles to create some go forward to give them some space, while Matamua was on he had no space so had to take hit ups .. I’m hoping he improves still but would not judge him too harshly on todays display .. not much he could do, but I do hope he starts to hit harder in defence again rather than continue on with this catch and wrestle nonsense he has started to utilise

The young fella who just scored for the Dragons played a full game of SG Ball yesterday arvo for Illawarra v Raiders.
Kid is a gun.

Only a trial game but for me the noticeable difference is again the line speed in defence. Dogs systems have flowed through to all the players and no matter who is on the field they get in your face. We just don’t have any line speed and sit there waiting for them in defence. Makes me nervous
Spot on… I just don’t understand why our coaches can’t seem to address our lack of line speed in defence.. I reckon we have the worst in the NRL… tonight I saw no improvement in our line speed 😔😔

Yep - fingers crossed hey! I think the spine has been whipped up a fair bit in the media. Here's hoping our "super spine" turns it on this year

Whilst I acknowledge your comments it’s not just today’s game I’m talking about.
He’s had a huge wrap on him for about 3+ years and I’m yet to see him show anything like the required skills for a first grade lock.
He seems to excel in lower grades but that’s not what’s important. Every time he steps up he seems overawed.
Just my opinion.

Young guys that deserve a wrap,
Lachlan Broederlow looked very strong against the Bulldogs starters, kit Laulilii really grew in confidence looked very good running straight and hard.
Noah Johannssen looks a real prospect, hes raw and still a long way away, but he's one that i would be investing time in looks a goer to me

Oh dear. Did u even read the post?
I did. You said I made things up. I could have dismissed you with your bias, which I did or tried to sift through game footage to back up what I said.

I think we agree on one thing. He is not regular first grade standard, regardless of whether or not he missed any tackles.

Tough to judge him in when he doesn't have the quality around him.

I must have been watching a different game, all is saw from No 24 was a myriad of errors. Watch a replay and check.
