at least 5 times I found myself saying what was that for . Both with the ball and defending .
It’s not right , but it reinforces my opinion that he manages outcomes . He doesn’t fix games . He’s not a cheat! . But he definitely manages the game for parity . Both when he is a video ref and on the field .
Is the outcome to provide an even contest , or perceived equal stats that meet all his KPIs? I dunno .
In fact I don’t even know if it’s purely like a residual thing from the period in time 5-10 years ago where parity for penalties and “perceived parity” was the biggest kpis for a ref .
I’d much rather the team get hammered if they are ill disciplined . But last year , and the never ending sin bins , often for almost nothing , really had left a bad taste in my mouth .
I hope the new ref boss comes in with fresh ideas and allows these guys to ref what’s in front of them, and not KPIs on some spreadsheet .
