LIVE GAME Preseason Challenge v Eels

Live Game Discussion
Staines annoys me so much. He tries but when he makes a mistake or let's a try in he just stays still.nno emotion, feeling. Just want to see him get angry about the mistake.

He doesn't have the post contact metres at all. Gets ragdolled. Reserve grade for sure
He didn’t let a try in ? It was his inside men , namely Toa who let the try in. Didn’t slide when it was on , and trust his inside man .

Not sure about that.

Luai has been praising LG massively.

Cause that’s all they ever ask him about, he’s hardly going to say nah Latu is better. He could say something like Galvin is going well but Latu is snapping at his heels.
I wouldn’t mind betting he’s been fed certain responses to questions like that.

It’s ridiculous. If that’s how they treat us this year I will turn it off … but I wont
He weirdly had different ruck speed interpretations for both teams . Smashed us with penalties when slowing them down in thier half , and smashed them with 6 against when they were lying all over us when on the attack .
He was real whistle happy tonight . 40 plus penalties/6 against is absurd .

Kills the spectacle.

Tristian Hope was great tonight and even last week he was impressive.
Dynamic and touch and not afraid to tell players where to go in attack. Really liked the look of him at 9 and think he will be surprise backup throughout the year pending injuries and form.

Bird looked fit and provided that enthusiasm and work rate that we missed last season. Can see him starting at lock. Too slow for centers IMO.

Pole was awesome tonight alongside May. Took alot of stopping and got through plenty of work.

Latu F seemed to grow into the game. I think he is a confidence player that needs to things to go his way for him to flourish during the game. Great front on defender also which has surprised me.

Thought our attacking structure needs work especially attacking the line but nice to see that we completed our sets at a high rate.
Backrow is light and is the one area we need from recruitment.

Defense has improved but our line speed and marker defense needs improving. I have seen over the past games that we are winning more of the ruck than last couple of years which means that has been a focus over the off season. This has been good to see in the games.

Good signs of improvement overall with young players getting good game time and playing well.
Looking forward to seeing the rest of the new boys in the squad.

QQ - is Tumeth still in our squad or is he injured? Surprised that a player in our top 30 has not played in either of the trials. Was hoping to see him play and see if there was any improvement in his game to justify a top 30 spot.

Three or four of those penalties seemed to be because parra pushed forward in the ruck and knocked one of our players to the ground. Another time it barely looked like the tackle was completed before a penalty was called. He was just too picky and both sides looked frustrated. I think we got a fair few soft six agains as well. As a fan you just want to feel like you understand the rule and the way it is policed, but referees seem so willing to reward play acting of players falling over and only inconsistently policing the ruck speed.

From the perspective of season preparation it was disappointing it was refereed that way because it didn't allow either team to get into a proper arm wrestle. Oh well.

ive got 2 (not) watch the replay ,it just seemed from a distracted point of view ,the 2 halves were policed differently.Getting the rub of the green puts a team 12 points in front - every time

I actually thought we didn’t offer mu

at least 5 times I found myself saying what was that for . Both with the ball and defending .
It’s not right , but it reinforces my opinion that he manages outcomes . He doesn’t fix games . He’s not a cheat! . But he definitely manages the game for parity . Both when he is a video ref and on the field .
Is the outcome to provide an even contest , or perceived equal stats that meet all his KPIs? I dunno .
In fact I don’t even know if it’s purely like a residual thing from the period in time 5-10 years ago where parity for penalties and “perceived parity” was the biggest kpis for a ref .
I’d much rather the team get hammered if they are ill disciplined . But last year , and the never ending sin bins , often for almost nothing , really had left a bad taste in my mouth .
I hope the new ref boss comes in with fresh ideas and allows these guys to ref what’s in front of them, and not KPIs on some spreadsheet .

klein is a puppet ,
He detracted from the game, nearly blowing the pea out of the whistle. Who does he think he is? Bill Harrigan? Show pony ref.

My verdict:

We don't need to worry too much about depth this year, a solid hit out by our new buys and our young guns. Handling: Was pretty good, Defence: While not world beating was also pretty good, Attack: Well the boys put 30 on a fairly strong Parra side, but could have been better. At least two bombed tries.

I'd score them a 7.5/10 for that game. Well done to the boys, they just have to fix some discipline issues, still giving away too many silly penalties.

My Verdict - we look confident stay composed , sticking to the plan ,no matter what the time piece or scoreboard reads
