LIVE GAME Preseason Challenge v Eels

Live Game Discussion
Don't know about Moltzen but pretty sure Teddy did an ACL and then a fractured kneecap later on when he was at the tigers, just googled it but couldn't find it, could be wrong was a long time ago maybe someone on here can remember.
If I recall it was the first game at Cambo against the Raiders in 2014 Teddy I thought received ball from kick off and collided with Campese and pretty sure it was his knee cap that was damaged I was at the game and just found this in Google search
Tedesco lasted 10 seconds in first appearance against the Raiders since opting out of his rich, long-term deal to join the club next year. His knee collided with Canberra captain Terry Campese's after a trademark Pat Richards’ towering kick-off to start the match in front of 9243 people; it could sideline him for up to 12 weeks.

Would definitely keep bird playing off the bench…he’s an older guy who’s had a lot of misfortune with the injuries and was even playing with his shoulder last night. Love the signing and I’m really happy we have him but we need to manage him if he’s to play 20+games for the next 2 years.
Agree, he’s quite a slight build naturally but plays like he’s 110kg

Yeah he did his ACL in 2010, then again in 2013 which opened up an opportunity for Teddy to move to fullback. Then coming back from his ACL injury he fractured the kneecap.

I remember everyone was confused because it happened when there was no contact and he was just running which was really unusual for that type of injury.

Then after trying to make a comeback from that he had an undiagnosed infection in his knee that our medical staff didn’t pick up on. Terrible run with injuries.

This is correct. It also makes it harder to defend on the right against slicker attack/passing. I can’t believe players get to the NRL and still have a sub standard right to left pass. I trained that out of my game in about the under 15s.
Exactly
I remember a Shark’s player Pomerio (spelling) a centre that openly stated he could not draw and pass.
I thought at the time how can you be playing NRL and not do the basics but then realised he was not the only one.

Ok rewatched the game to my wife’s digust:

Has Sam F lost weight? Maybe it’s his hair. Was quieter than usual maybe on purpose - doesn’t look in same condition as last year? Didn’t play bad just didn’t do much. He defended well when I watched again. He would have scored a try with that run at the line early second half last year. Did cop a whack to leg as he built momentum though.

Mason returning the ball especially broken play is great. He is a good ‘problem’ to have. Can fill in anywhere in the backs

Add Turuva 💪 out of the back

Twal better than baby giraffe. Best running game in a while. Looks good behind new look pack. Add api and it’s exciting. Need a tough backrower … as stated here for a long time. Baby giraffe gets bent all the time. Adds nothing in attack.

Bird was great. Just hope he stays fit. As others has said he brings the attitude we need

Players excitement at Hopes try was great. Matterson hopeless defence there. Also celebration on Skelton whack was great.

Kit - what is the make up of the starting pack? Baby giraffe for defence but I’d like Kit in the 17. Is he back up impact if Royce / Pole et all get injured?

Royce was good in what I believe was very limited mins - injured?

Fataape was good but his hands were poor tonight

May is such a great signing - We will not lament the pillow

TDS had an average game save for decent passing. T Hope looks tougher atm.

I think latu 14 for now. Can bird play a stint at hooker? Or who else other than Latu. I don’t think Latu is a Dene Halatau type - too much ball paying talent. I liked where he fit in last night. Must be in the side for me

Good to see Sione’s toe is ok - showing his footwork at the line

Second try eels was slick - the fullback that replaced gutho - thought staines should have pushed out as Toa had his man. I thought Toa had a decent game with not much ball (as expected with Doihie and LG)

Pole made a huge hit early second half - very strong runs / great footwork. What a beast!

Hope - great to know we have him - can’t play till rd 11 i see unless we make changes

A couple of flat passes - yes marginally forward - could have been 2 to 3 more tries - Galvin to Latu to Bird was slick. Eels bombed a number of tries too

Eels ball control / overall game was poor - turned over the ball so many times - a much closer game if not .

Offloads from parra close to our line was an issue

Poor old Nado! He busted his arse. Good to see him in good spirits on the sideline second half

Skelton great. What a hit! Knee strapping not ideal and limping often 😳. Won’t be surprised if needs a rest now and again. Shame if he doesn’t play round one

Add Laui, API and Turuva - they add Moses, Brown, Paulo and Lane. Would likely be a close game - we look about the same heading into the season for me - hopefully we don’t play them for the spoon again! Why they let RCG go is beyond me!

Not sure why I was so confident of winning that. Staines worst for me - he is ok just not in FG unless injuries to many

Refs let parra get away with murder. Ref inconsistency already concerning - nothing new

Still need to tighten defense. Hopefully API does some of that. Their fullback is very good. Much more ball playing ability / speed than an aging Gutho

May if cleared at centre and decent back rower and we are stacked imo for the first time in a LONG time

Still a trial and low intensity game
Pretty good assessment,

Parra were very poor and both their scoring was way to easy for me.

We are going to be a much better team in 2025

Those guys were all tall and somewhat lanky when they played there.
Which of the guys vying for the halves resembles that body shape?
Hint…it’s not Fainu.
Oh don't worry- I agree with you.

Personally feel that Latu is the better overall skill player. Galvin in the 2nd Row for mine.

Latu is a gem, don't waste him in the forwards. If he is playing well enough, put him at 6.
And where does Galvin go , he owns that spot , we need to have all the best attacking players on the field , lock is not much different than a hooker where he will have to fit in to get game time

You take away all his strengths by putting him at centre. He's clearly a half and only a half
Yes & no.

If you play a traditional "this is what a centre does" type game, then yes.

But if you play a guy like Bird in the second row, who can play as a centre as well, you can be creative- the way NSW was creative with Turbo & Latrell playing centre instead of fullback.

No reason a player like Luai couldn't roam the field while Latu plays one side & Galvin the other- instead of having a #13 do the role.

Golden boots old man won't be happy
Agreed.

My concern is the club does everything in it's power to retain the active athlete & pushes the better #6 out the door as a result.

I think Galvin is a good player. In the way Daley & Brad Clyde were good players. Pretty sure Daley could have played centre all his career & been a superstar. Clyde too, most likely. It didn't really matter what position they played- more the role.

I honestly believe Galvin in the second row is the future. I also think he will insist on being a 5/8.

I'm just hoping the Tigers are brave enough to do the best for the club.

Not till he puts on 10kg , u got to think about doing things like that , he a play marker not a bloody pig
He's what? 5kg lighter than Bird, who we want playing #13?

Everyone looks at things in terms of 'how it's always been done'.

I saw Galvin bump of 2 defenders to set up Doueihi who put Skelton over. Tell me how THAT isn't playing like a second rower?

Funny how u picked that , when he was at Cambridge park in the u11 , grand final against my Minchinbury side , he made a break with 1 minute to go , he was super quick , my lock came across 20 out and he had support but couldn’t pass to a unmarked team mate , we won the game

Yes he would make a go at it but he would fall away as the season went on , don’t rush the kid he’s not ready to be a pig
