Okay. Lets break this down. He wasn't the last time so you doubt it now. After more recovery time and another preseason under his belt. How did you come to your summation?
Because he wasn't a good fullback before the 2 extra knee reconstructions, a lot of tries were let in close to our line because he couldn't get across fast enough or just out of position, does this clear it up X.

Game is just over 24 hours away. Given what we saw on Sunday; a few questions still need to be answered.

Firstly, for me, the score is not that important. In fact neither is much related to our attacking structures as I expect that we will not want to expose too much to a team we play again in round 2. I thought our first hit out wasn't too bad - got the cobwebs out and we showed a resonably coordinated approach to the game on both sides of the ball. Galvin tried a bit too hard for mine and although our defence was OK, there were a couple of glaring errors - our failure to shut the gate on a couple of occasions and some of the poor defensive coordination on our right edge/wing and lack of cover..

The key aspects I will be focussing on are:
  • Defence:
    • Line speed
    • Closing the gate
    • Change of structure in the red zone
    • Cover/Scramble
    • Attack in their red zone.
  • Attack
    • Ability to get out of our end
    • Long/early kicking game
    • 40/20 execution
    • Control of the middle corridor in the middle third of the field (particulary Bird when he is on)
    • Handover of the ball
    • Control and execution in their red zone
      • Repeat Sets
      • Players in motion
From a plyer persective I am keen to keep and eye on Naden and Toa in the backline and in the forwards how the rotation of Twal/Bird goes and the effectivenss of the May/Pole Hunt/Sione? rotation.

What key points are you looking for out of Friday's game?
If Gal plays right side again I am keen to see his Toa combo cos Toa is miles better than Faataape who Gal made to look good. Staines ought to also benefit from this shift to the right.

On the other side Douehi, Naden & Skelton are a very tall edge and throw in Samuela F and that is gonna be an interesting point of attack if the eels go searching to shut down Gal on the right. Remember the quick shifts to the left in the Raiders game (where Douehi played)? I'm hoping for more of the same.

I don't expect the Eels halves to dominate so the forward battle will probably come down to an arm-wrestle. My prediction is 18-6 our way in the first half with Latu & Bird coming on in the last 10 to set up 2 tries against tired legs. The second half is a lottery.

On the other hand, if Gal plays on the left side then Benji must want to see Douehi on the right and I wouldn't at all be surprised if AD replaces Twal at lock prior to half time with Latu replacing Gal on the left and Bird moving to the right 5/8 spot. Yep, our very own Yeo ball-playing lock Doohicki! What could possibly go wrong? It's a trial after all!

Hole runners in support, try line defence, kick chase, and basic all round enthusiasm, plus what you listed Jolls.

I was hoping for a full strength team but obviously we still have reasons for players in cotton wool. Really hope we compete. If not, I know its only a trial, but going into the season without a trial win not good. More pressure on coaching staff.

Parra can just watch our round one video to get a handle on all our 'secrets'

I doubt we have much worthwile to give away

True, but it will be a sample of one game and video is different to first hand experience. We also probably won't be telegraphing anything to the Knights. Small wins, but could be enough.
