All I can come up with this is the biggest WTF in Wests Tigers history!!

Douehi at 7???
That'll do me!
😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳

Seyfarth as captain- just reaffirms what I'd heard about Benji & Farah loving him as a club player. I think it is purely a culture driven play- the whole club is about changing culture. Think Christian Welch. Was never the top forward at the Storm. But was rated highly because of what he brings in terms of culture. Twal & Seyfarth are Tigers-guys.

Which leads to Doueihi, who I expect is similarly thought of by senior staff at the Tigers.

With Bula probably out early in the season, I feel better with Doueihi at fullback than Mason (who I think is a sneaky option for #14)

I really don't get the drive on the forum to have a utility back (Latu F/Mason) on the bench. We have Bird in the team already who can play the key positions in the backline. We need to rotate our forward to maintain momentum. Sure if Bird breaks then we might need a utility.

Bird = #3 in my perfect world.

Sure if Bird is playing centre - but I think that is where he will play only after Olam, Toa, Naden, Douhie and Faataape have all gone down. If I have read the tea leaves right he is going to start at 13, or coming on at 13 after 20 minutes or so.

Would Doueihi be fit enough for fullback?

The good thing about the trial is we get a first look at a lot of players who we have questions about. Toa, Naden, Staines for mine are people i have low faith in but have shown they can be good on their day. Im hoping one or two jump out on friday

I’m wondering if Latu might be the next to go? Not a vote of confidence
I would say we are getting our wish from the last trial and will see Latu come in to the halves after halftime and Galvin subbed out. Will be interesting to see then if Mason moves to 6 with Naden to fullback, and where Bird plays. Bird could get a run at 6 in the second half, but I'd like to see him stay at lock given he's not starting. Douehi could easily get a run at centre or fullback also in the second half.

Many questions to be answered.

Game is just over 24 hours away. Given what we saw on Sunday; a few questions still need to be answered.

Firstly, for me, the score is not that important. In fact neither is much related to our attacking structures as I expect that we will not want to expose too much to a team we play again in round 2. I thought our first hit out wasn't too bad - got the cobwebs out and we showed a resonably coordinated approach to the game on both sides of the ball. Galvin tried a bit too hard for mine and although our defence was OK, there were a couple of glaring errors - our failure to shut the gate on a couple of occasions and some of the poor defensive coordination on our right edge/wing and lack of cover..

The key aspects I will be focussing on are:
  • Defence:
    • Line speed
    • Closing the gate
    • Change of structure in the red zone
    • Cover/Scramble
    • Attack them with defence in their red zone.
  • Attack
    • Ability to get out of our end
    • Long/early kicking game
    • 40/20 execution
    • Control of the middle corridor in the middle third of the field (particulary Bird when he is on)
    • Handover of the ball
    • Control and execution in their red zone
      • Repeat Sets
      • Players in motion
From a player persective I am keen to keep and eye on Naden and Toa in the backline and in the forwards how the rotation of Twal/Bird goes and the effectivenss of the May/Pole Hunt/Sione? rotation.

What key points are you looking for out of Friday's game?

Not being laughed at.
