I think it is very important to show Benji the respect he deserves for his contribution to this club. No other individual player has attracted fans and promoted interest in the club like Benji has. It sends a very bad message - regardless of how individuals feel about him - to other players and the NRL community at large. This has to be handled in a professional manner as we already have bad form in this area and It would be stupid to make the same mistake again.

Not saying they havnt - to this point I don't think there has been anything official from the club but at some point there will need to be. The media are on to it, now any thing the club does in regard to Benji will be scrutinized.
Clearly you are not alone in thinking he is not a first grader but I can guarantee they will pull out his try assists for this year and highlight the positives - let alone his previous contributions wearing the WTs jersey. It needs to be managed respectfully imo.

If Benji plays on for another club I will be beyond disappointed with him. He is supposed to be the heart of the team, he has a career sorted after football, yet he is putting himself before the club. Thanks for 05 and some highlights in 10/11, but this has really hurt my opinion of him.

Yeah right, Tigers are really good at exposing opposing sides weaknesses, yeah? More likely that Benji will have a blinder. The disrespect here for a player who WANTS to play for us is really bad. Honestly, it's miserable. Yeah, the lack of success is frustrating, but why take it out on Benji? Same crap with people following media hype around Robbie. At the moment we are behaving in a way which deserves the sort of lack of success we're experiencing.

Do the missed tackles leading to tries , turnovers that result in tries equal try assists in 2020 .....

I honestly hope he has enough sense to retire this season as i dont want him to be reviled by much of our supporter base.It is very sad it has come to this.

Well in fairness to Benji. Our coach was still picking him each week? Is that due to respect? Due to a higher demand? Or due to the fact he is still our best 5/8?

It's not about his quality, it's about mocking him and the stupid bravado of how good it would be to play him and expose his defensive weaknesses when we've never been good at doing that (except when Benji's in form). Just the level of contempt for Benji is really weak. Why would anyone want to play for us? Rubbish admin, rubbish facilities and fans who bag out the club's best players. Again, I get that Benji's not the same player he was, **but there's no reason for the animosity on here towards him.** Totally unjustified, he hasn't said anything except apparently that he wants to keep playing for us. And he still cops crap on here.

I also share your exact same sentiments - in that he deserves some level of respect.
We all understand the decision but I'd also like to see it handled professionally by the club.

Marshall is entitled to end his career as he sees fit. If that means another year or two with another club then that’s up to him and his manager. But this should not end in a circus. His departure from WT should end in a dignified manner by all parties.
Personally I will feel disappointed if he does not play his last game in our colours but then “that’s life”.

Yep, the club does what's best for the club not Benji. Madge makes the call I believe and should wear the ramifications whether good or bad. I don't want to be held to ransom (or whatever you want to call it) by any player and I don't care who it is. If Madge thinks Benjis time in the NRL with WTs is done then give him a professional and respectful farewell. Players have short memories and allowing Marshall to play on again won't change anything. The longer we remain in the bottom 8 is the main deterrent for quality signings and nothing to do with Benjis retirement.

What a shame this has all turned out to be. Father time waits for nobody. A shell of the player he once was. Club legend that just couldnt take a hint. It would have been so much more fitting to have had a massive farewell event for the fans last year with the 3 club legends. Robbie, Benji and Rowdy all retiring, however we know this club would struggle to organise an RSL chook raffle. It would have left a much better taste in the mouth of his supporters that watched him debut as that skinny kid playing fullback with the sideburns and that step all those years ago against the Knights.
