Projecting the Wests Tigers Round 1 team

Good Post!!!

I reckon the OP is 94% correct with the only difference being Buchanan missing out for either Gavet or Sue.

Agree. I'd have Gavet ahead at this stage based on his trial performances. The State Cup squad will be strong with Sue, Buchanan, Austin and Koro all in there and pushing hard for selection in FG.

What's the go with Corey Brown? He said in an article during pre-season he wanted to start at ctr come rd1.
Is he close at all? How has he trialled?

can anyone help me out here
am i correct in thinking that patterson will be playing inside of lawrence and richards with brooks supplying them the ball?
so our left side offense will be brooks paterson lawrence richards?

It appears that way. Pretty strong if you ask me.

thats what i thought alex
i would be backing lawrence to hit his form with a 2nd rower like paterson inside him, quality consistent ball from brooks and a helpful finisher in richards
a lil more confident in the team now

It really is unfortunate all our centres (Lawrence, Lulia and Simona) are left side specialists

I'm glad everyone has the same 1-10\. Which two of gavet, Buchanan, sue and BMM make to the final 17 is completely up to the coach from the pre season form. Whether Fulton starts or not is also up to the coach.

We have a really solid depth in case of injuries or suspensions. Here's hoping we don't need that depth though.

Rowdy can comfortably play right side

He did for City v Country , as their openings at Origin level

I would have the same 1-10 as everyone else. The rest would be
11\. Fulton
12\. Paterson
13\. Blair
14\. Galloway
15\. Gavet
16\. BMM
17\. Sue/Buchanan

I'm just not a fan of Thompson..

I don't think Thompson, Anasta, Murdoch-Masila or Blair deserve walk up spots based on trial form or last years form and letting them get run on spots is a bit of a cop out to guys like Austin, Paterson, Gavet and Taupau who used the trials as a platform to show that they mean business and to guys like Sue and Buchanan who toiled and toiled last year in a well beaten side and never stopped trying.

Likewise to KG and Fulton who both have no game time in their legs and didn't exactly light the world on fire last year when they were actually on the field. Assuming both are likely to spend extended time on the pine due to injury as is their way, we should look to giving other guys more game time and giving them less.

Blair needs to spend the first few weeks in reggies so he can figure out how to play football without giving away four penalties a game. I frankly refuse to believe that my ability to analyse football is so poor that I have somehow missed all these "one percenters" and "stuff off the ball" that Blair supposedly does so well that he demands selection every week for two years. He's not the only guy capable of running decoys and giving away ruck penalties we have. I absolutely refuse to believe that he is going to offer more to the side than Gavet, Sue and even Brown, Buchanan, Thompson and Murdoch-Masila. Hell Buchanan at least put in a few games where he made over 100m last year and BMM for his inability to put a ball on the ground at least goes close. I think Blair has done it maybe twice at most in 30 odd games for us.

I also think this whole Anasta "nurturing" Brooks is a load of crap. Brooks has Farah inside him, he doesn't need another guy, who frankly has had the game pass him and leave him in it's dust, teaching him how to do things the wrong way. Anasta can play NSW cup and teach/watch in awe of Mitch Moses instead, where the results aren't putting Mick Potter's career and my family's happiness on the line each week. The NYC have good enough halves without Moses. Yes in Anasta and Blair it will be the highest paid NSW cup side ever assembled but we shouldn't pick players based on what their agents managed to convince Tim Sheens to pay for them.

My side;

1\. Tedesco
2\. Nofoaluma
3\. Simona (K Lulia)
4\. Lawrence
5\. Richards
6\. Austin
7\. Brooks
8\. Woods
9\. Farah
10\. Taupau
11\. Paterson
12\. Sue
13\. Gavet

14\. Galloway
15\. Fulton
16\. Murdoch-Masila
17\. Brown

Bodene has been solid in defence, and Anasta has also been okay in D; his attack is a tempered one but something that should hopefully compliment brooks well. I wouldn't be too upset seeing them in round 1, but definitely Gavet and Paterson should be there.

Austin has been good in attack, but he was greatly exposed in 9s in defence.

I dont know what to do about blair. He won't be dropped, and i can see why. Let's see how he plays first few rounds, after that if he still shows no signs of improvement then….

Austin was exposed in the nines just like all of our players. In 13 a side trials he has been better than Anasta in attack and wasn't glaringly problematic in defense. Trust me Blake Austin is not a bad defensive halves option. Not even close to it. The 9s was just different and our defensive structure was not suited to it at all.

Blair was exposed in the Sharks trial and that matters more. Penalties galore and shocking missed tackles leading directly to tries. Same old same old.

Looks good mate, except I'd put big Ava in for Brown at this stage.

Same , brown still needs a bit of work.

While I believe Anasta will start, I tend to agree with MacDougall^. In another recent post I expressed concern that Anasta would be a speed hump for Brooks. I recently read an article that lauded Anasta's calming influence on Brooks and other young players. Maybe so. I am trying to keep an open mind.

Speed hump = traffic calming device.

Agree with the last few posts.
Sue if over the concussion should be picked. He offers much more than Thompson or Blair. Also put Ava on the bench as part of the prop rotation. He really came on strong towards the end of last year.

Kyle Lovett could be a shot at a bench spot letter in the season depending on NSW Cup form I would think.

I picked Blair as I know Potter will pick him. I rather have Sue at lock at Blair missing out altogether.

I like your team for r1, I would like to see that! I hate ppl picking Buchanan he is horrible offers nothing, yes he tries hard etc but he offers nothing to the team, no opposition will be in two minds over him. If we didn't have a dozen plus injuries last year he would never have played.
Potter is all about rolling forward, getting forward through the middle, this is also highlighted through the size of the pack this year with buying taupau and Patterson.
Buchanan cannot bend the line for us for quick PTBs, I'm sorry Jack, but without a significant injury toll you won't play first grade

I'll wait and see how Jack goes over the first month of the season before agreeing/disagreeing with the above analysis. Apparently he has put on quite a bit of muscle mass and may well be improved in getting well over the ad' line. He's still a kid and will continue to develop.
