The Queensland Rugby League has today named a 25-man Squad for Game 1 of the 2011 Harvey Norman State of Origin Series.

“These are the guys who are performing well at the moment and are in the picture,” Queensland Chairman of Selectors Des Morris said.

“Obviously if we get a couple of injuries we might have to go outside the squad but as it stands now this is the group of players in the mix.

“By naming the squad today it provides an incentive for some of the players who have been on the fringe of Origin selection.”

XXXX Maroons Squad:

Matt Ballin, Ben Barba, Darius Boyd, Petero Civoniceva, Cooper Cronk, Ben Hannant, Ashley Harrison, Justin Hodges, Greg Inglis, Dallas Johnson, Martin Kennedy, Jacob Lillyman, Darren Lockyer, Nate Myles, Corey Parker, Matt Scott, David Shillington, Billy Slater, Cameron Smith, David Taylor, Sam Thaiday, Johnathan Thurston, Willie Tonga, Daniel Vidot, Jharal Yow Yeh.

Not really. They have Thurston, Lockyer and Cronk in there who all can play in the halves. Lui is well behind the 3 of them, Barba can also play in the halves, and Prince would be ahead of Lui too.

I believe they named this squad so no other rep side can select these players between now and then.

Barba is getting better! You guys think he might get a spot on the interchange???

Anyone think Rob Lui unlucky to miss out on top 25 ??

I was waiting for a post like this
He's lucky to be halfback for the Tigers - give us a break.

Luck has nothing to do with it.

With D Lock on the way out, they'll look to give Gooper Gronk a bit more game time, so he can slot into halfback next year, and JT will shift to 5/8.

Ben T'eo missing out, wasn't he 18th man last year ?
My guess is they'll make Yow Yeh 18th man this year.
Would be good to see him and Vidot get a crack on the wings but it'll probably be Tonga & Boyd.
Barba will miss out this year, unless there is injury…. He could be used as a Gidley interchange type player but it's not his time yet.

Yeah so probably Cronk on the bench aye? What about Prince?

Prince will be 32 this time next year (and he's playing like it now), Cronk is still in his 20s. Prince's time has passed him by.

I think Rob Lui would get more out of it than say Jacob Lillyman would by getting picked in squad . I don't think he is the third best half .
