Queensland team 2017

Better team, but Unless Napa can get A big shot on someone, he's a total waste of space. Against a team that can tackle, he is very ordinary in attack, and his general defence is pretty ordinary.
Hess is a big gamble, good forward, but not much experience yet, would need to start well .
A couple of mistakes and the nerves might get to him

This is a more balanced QLD team.

Solid Backline, Im not sure about the Fwds in particular.

Im a nervous Blue this far out

Finally common sense has prevailed. This is pretty much what the game 1 squad should have been. That side was sabotage…very NSW like in several mistakes at the selection table.
We'll need the decider i think.

 Sabotaged by whom? Good grief

Selectors.
Pride, stubborness, pig headed attitude…you name it.
That game 1 side was the worst ive seen in many many years.

Agree with that but only based on the rumours going around about Kevvie being overruled.

As a Blues supporter I am still confident we can beat this team but now with an element of doubt that wasn't there in game 1\. The fact that JT and Billy are back is enough to scare me….a little. Not religious but I think I'm going to pray for a win 😛ray:

We got you in the backs. Gagai and Holmes have untapped talent and Chambers is big and aggressive.
Experience and class wise, Cooper, JT, Boyd and Billy just know how to get the job done at this level. They have over 70 origin wins between them. NSW entire backline would have maybe a third of that. Forwards however is a different story. NSW have an awesome pack and a very strong bench. QLD's pack are potentially great but mostly unproven. If they click and hold the blues then our experienced backs will deliver the win. If they get rolled then game 1 will repeat.

Should be a cracker of a game either way.

If Queensland happen to lose this game (which they wont as it's the greatest team of internationals ever assembled)…Will there be another 7 changes for game 3..is that how they roll now..?

Will Kevvy see another Origin series...?

So many questions...?

I don't think we have another 7 players putting there hands up to be picked. We lack the depth unlike NSW, but that could all change if another QLD club was brought into the comp.

Who know's but a big victory on Wednesday night should put those doubters to rest.

Probably not if they lose.

end of an era for QLD me thinks

i don't think it is the end of the ERA, but it will be the test.

To me the end of the era will be when Smith, Thurston and Slater retire. But that neglects some very important Queenslanders.
Front row: Steve Price, Sam Thaiday, Petro, Corey Parker, etc. One Monster front row.
Impact: Ingles, ingles, Justin hodges, Isreal Folau, Ingles, Boyd, etc.

The heart of that team is the awesome combination of Lockyer, Slater and Smith. Thurston can just put icing on the cake, I remember when Scott Prince was half, Thurston had no idea and was lost. That being said Thurston is always targetted, but I always think he is overrated.

GI and Israel though were SO, SOOO awesome. Both meant 1-2 tries per game each. Now NSW have Hayne and they have players that can pull that off (like Jennings who IMHO could get a spot).

No GI, I am typing NSW for the second win with QLD getting the third. But that crazy Australian team spine of Smith, Thurston, Lockyer and Slater gave them the dominance.

no
no
not really

NSW should win this series 3-0… But they wont have much creditability until they can put back-to-back series together.

I suppose we will have to wait until July 2018 to know if this NSW team is the real deal?!

There'll be credibility if they win next week… Even moreso if they win game III... And more again next year.

If they don't... There won't be

Moron's confirm line up…

XXXX Queensland Moroons

1\. Billy Slater
2\. Valentine Holmes
3\. Will Chambers
4\. Darius Boyd
5\. Dane Gagai

6\. Johnathan Thurston
7\. Cooper Cronk

8\. Dylan Napa
9\. Cameron Smith (c)
10\. Jarrod Wallace
11\. Gavin Cooper
12\. Matt Gillett
13\. Josh McGuire

14\. Michael Morgan
15\. Josh Papalii
16\. Coen Hess
17\. Tim Glasby
18\. Cameron Munster

That is a heaps better side isn't it. I'm still not sure if they have a good enough forward pack but it's a lot better than what it was. If we lose Fifita or he has a dud game Qld could easily win.

Im happy with that squad. I have loved watching Nate and Sam but after a decade plus of playing top line footy, consistently putting their bodies in the line, they are breaking down and are tired. They are both true warriors and their experience will be missed but unfortunately they cant keep up any more at this level for the whole game. Our new pack of workaholics will compete with the Blues star studded lineup. The bench has spark as well. Hess could be anything. Glasby will plug holes. Papali is a wrecking ball when on song. Out of Morgan and Munster, Id lean towards the kid. He has the X factor and could steal the win in the last 15 minutes.

QLD by 4

Napa was immense in the second half, he and McGuire really stood up to get us back in the game. Disappointed with the use of Hess and Wallace, Hess looked a bit timid but I thought Wallace looked better than Napa in the first stint.
If Papalii doesn't show up in game 3 then surely that's him done in Origin. I'd like to give Kaufusi a go but I'd say Sims' ability to play middle might give him the edge.
Don't think Glasby did too badly either, seemed to be caught out by the pace a few times, but generally solid in defence and always found his front with ball in hand.
Morgan's pass to Gagai probably saved his Origin career, doubt he'll be looked at without JT in the team.
Cooper looked like he'd been there all his life, I thought he did great.
I'd like to think we get up for game 3, but I don't see us being able to hold out NSW again.

I feel for the 2018 team though, poor things won't stand a chance without Cronk and Thurston.

"I feel for the 2018 team though, poor things won't stand a chance without Cronk and Thurston."

Agree & Disagree to some extent. Its not like NSW have halves at either of Coopers or Thurstons level either, so may not be a huge leap to steer a team around the park if given the right forward pack. Regardless, I think its really important that we start with Michael Morgan for Game 3\. He needs to take the reins and show he is up to this level setting the standard for 2018.

My changes would be:

Morgan for Thurston
Moga for Boyd
Thaiday for Papalli
McCollough for Morgan's bench spot

Let these boys build some combinations and then look to the future with Munster, Simms & Kaufusi in 2018.
