Queensland team 2017

I'll be talking Queensland up again in Game 2 ..that's for sure…

They are Awesome...Queenslandeeeeeerrr

Theyll win game 2\. NSW werent perfect and offered 4 or 5 scoring opportunities. With the correct players chosen those chances will be converted. Add to that the fact that the worlds best defensive backrower had an off game and these teams are a lot closer than last night indicated.
Game 1 was brilliant
Game 2 will be an epic

On last night's performance they are going to find it tough in Sydney.
Their 3/4s and prop rotation is lacking. Also there is no punch in the forwards.
I think they are getting to the rebuild requirement stage.

Qld simply couldnt compete in the middle of the park… NSW would make 57m, Qld would make 43m; NSW make 47m, Qld 39m. And while both teams were forming completions, the lack of meters went on for most of the match. Once you add those additional meters, and factor in the possibility of 50% of those were 'post contact' ultimately drawing another 1-2 defenders, Qld was always going to crack.

Slater, Inglis, Thurston wouldve been on a losing team last night if they played... People simply under estimate the work load of Matt Scott & Corey Parker, followed with the old man Myles [63m] nearly in a Wheelchair. Qld need to firstly address the meters in the middle of the park before they are any chance of competing with this mobile Blues Pack before worrying about bringing in backline changes [Holmes must come in].

Then before Qld decide at the selection table who to pick, the white elephant in the room is the tired legs of their Champion Captain. The #14 jumper in Game 2 will obviously need to be a DH option!

Kevin Walters MUST make changes and not worry too much about the result of the series, and focus on building combinations to be a threat from 2018 on-wards. With this in mind, Slater doesnt come in and we look to the future. I'm not dropping Milford, he just doesnt fit into my structure factoring what happened last night:

1\. Boyd
2\. Gagai
3\. Holmes
4\. Chambers [switches to the right]
5\. Oates
6\. Thurston [if not 100%, Morgan comes in as he is the more senior player]
7\. Cronk
8\. Napa
9\. Smith
10\. Lillyman
11\. Thaiday [switches to prop rotation once Hess comes on]
12\. Gillett
13\. McGuire

14\. McCullough
15\. Wallace
16\. Papalli
17\. Hess

Not a team which will win the series, but a team for next year moving forward.

Reading back through this thread is interesting, none of us predicted such a game.

Not even me as the most parochial NSW supported there is.

I think there is a ton of improvement in the Blues, A few were off in the backs and that is masked by a try and a a strip. Big moments none the less.

Another note.

If we can wrap up the series in 3 weeks, I will look forward to 2018 minus even more stars, Cronk, Thiaday, lillyman, myles. Thurston.

The once in a hundred year team is almost gone.

Queensland got rolled in the forwards and need to make changes there especially on the bench. One of the problems they face is that these players have been so good for so long that the selectors will feel that they deserve to go out with a farewell party. Oh well all the better for NSW

You are right.
Nate has played 32 games - all during the dominant run
Sam has played 28 games - all during the dominant run
Lillyman has played 14 games - all during the dominant run

These three blokes are responsible for the success the state has recieved. It will be hard for the selectors to drop them but they had no problem dropping Slater so drop them they must. Oniel needs to go as well.

O'Neill is gone for sure and Slater will come in with Boyd to the wing and Gagai to the centres. Lockyer played with a lot of the others so will be clouded there. They should drop them but I really would be surprised

Has Sammy finished eating that cow he had under his jumper last night.
Surely that was his last time he'll ever get near an Origin team again,
Maybe him and Miles can find a whole herd and they can chew away to see who bursts first

It would be disgusting for Queensland to throw such loyal servants on the scrapheap…

Did your daughter tell you that joke? Its funny!!!!

thaiday wasn't too bad

myles, o'neil, lillyman need to be replaced otherwise it'll all be too one sided again

Not having a crack, but if you're not picking Slater to "build combinations for the future", then surely you can't pick Smith, Cronk and Thurston? Two of those won't be there next year and one will probably only have a year or two left. I'd understand where you're coming from if you had Milford and say Hunt or Taylor in the halves, but the spine you've named will literally last two games.
Slater has to be there, Boyd is solid, but was down last night and lacks the X-factor that Slater does. If Billy was playing, we score on Smith's kick infield to Cronk.
Agree on Hess and Wallace, not sold on McCullough but I can see where you're coming from.
FWIW:
1\. Slater
2\. Holmes
3\. Chambers
4\. Gagai
5\. Boyd
6\. Thurston
7\. Cronk
8\. Napa
9\. Smith
10\. Thaiday
11\. Papalii
12\. Gillett
13\. McGuire
14\. Hess
15\. Wallace
16\. Oates
17\. Sims/Kaufusi

Milford played well, but unless he brings a kicking game I can't pick him, it made Cronk too easy of a target until Smith remembered he had boots on too. Wouldn't mind giving Taylor a go, handy goalkicker too.
The bench utility has worked well for us in the past but with the pack NSW has we just can't afford to. Jack Bird is strong enough to play anywhere except prop and create his own space, we don't have that luxury. Don't exactly rate Sims, but he's a bit bigger than Kaufusi I guess.
Oates to play edge, possibly moving Papalii to lock (who needs to lift).
Gillett had a rare bad game and that cost us the first two tries, doubt it'll happen again.

All that said though, we know the selectors won't change anything, don't rate Walters as a coach, and NSW should do it comfortably barring a catastrophic collapse (like picking Pearce in the halves again).

When did they drop Slater?
Lost his spot through injury a few years back didn't he?

I like Vanillas side more than Watto's. Boyd is a great player but he is no Slater, thats no big slight on him as no fullback is. Im also not a huge Morgan fan. When he produced that last second play in the GF I thought he had arrived. Between then and now he stopped for toilet break and got left behind. I seriously think he is a couple of years off being the amazing bench sub that people believe him to be. Sure he can cover a lot of positions…none of them well though. A replacement 9 is a waste of a bench spot against such a terrific pack. Big Sammy must lift in the next 2 games to get selected as well for mine. Sad but his time is very near over. Nate has played his last game Id say. Was a warrior to the end still giving his all but his all cant keep up with this mobile opposition.

1\. Slater
2\. Holmes
3\. Chambers
4\. Gagai
5\. Boyd
6\. Thurston
7\. Cronk
8\. Wallace
9\. Smith
10\. Napa
11\. Papalii
12\. Gillett
13\. McGuire

14\. Morgan
15\. Cooper
16\. Hess
17\. Glasby

Still a prop short on the bench, backline is far better than NSW imo

I am getting a little nervous
