PJ, swearing is not on thanks. That has been made very clear, and your continued derided attacks against me are also not appreciated thanks. Please post constructively as I am sure Kul intended for this thread. If you have particular issue with me, take it up with me privately.

Haven't personally attacked you once.
I've got nothing against you as a Tigers supporter, I've never met you.
I think @Kul needs to replace you.
Come see how the other half lives

Not blaming the Discord ...but a lot of issues definitely went up another gear about the same time it started ......

Thought I would bring up the very obvious elephant in the room .....

Or alternatively people gravitated to that place when this one went downhill and their frustrations increased.

Room for both obviously and I would expect each plays a different role. Genuinely each to their own.

What would be interesting is a comparison to the Sydney Melbourne rivalry. In my experience Melbourne people like to talk up the rivalry with Sydney, where as Sydney people dont think about Melbourne at all.

There is no discord thread on the first 10pages of "recent" topics here on this forum. Is there a WTF thread over at discord?

Completely agree.

I agree as well, but apparently the Mods can see who is giving the down vote, so why not everyone.

Don't see why if you can see who is giving up votes why you cannot see who is giving down votes.

I appreciate that people can disagree with something and may not always have time to respond with the reason for their differing opinion at the time but the same applies to up votes as well.

Maybe one way out of it would be to make it a requirement that when you give a vote that a text box comes up prompting you to give a response with some sort of reason, otherwise the vote does not register.

Hopefully this would encourage some sort of sensible and rational debate and if things were to turn nasty, the Mods could just do what they do now and delete posts or ban posters to maintain the high standard that this forum has maintained in the past.

Ah, pleeze why don't we put the response in Latin to make it more formal. People need to toughen up. This is pathetic overreaction.

Your opinion and you are quite entitled to it.

Judging by your response, you may well have just down voted this in the past and moved on, but at least you have been pushed to give a reasonable response.

I thought you handed in your badge willow? you were going pretty hard in the paint against Kul at one point recently.

That's a separate issue. The forum has changed somewhat over the years and has always relied on moderation as not everyone who joins on here, respects or plays by the rules. As an FYI when someone is banned, a reason is given and despite what some people on here may think about me, I can justify every permanent banning I've ever issued. Having said that, I'm not the only one responsible for that. We attempted to relax our stance earlier this year as some users started to swear more and more frequently, but that didn't work - members complained that it was degrading threads, and we (the moderation team) agreed so we went back to sticking with the rules as they currently are. We don't want this place turning into the forums on LU, that would really drive members away. We sought support from Kul, but he hasn't responded to us for reasons unknown. I'm sure he's busy with other things though and is enjoying life in Europe.

Yes, it's Kul's forum, no one is disputing that, but there has been no discussion from him regarding a relaxing of the rules or otherwise. So until that happens, we will continue to moderate within those rules. Admittedly I let my frustrations get the better of me last week and I regret that, but this place can get pretty depressing during the offseason, particularly given the way WT finished the season. It left a sour taste in many people's minds I feel and we have had more and more members having a go at one another - that's naturally going to deter people away from the forum. The upvote/downvote system also played a part in that which I suspect is something that has annoyed Kul - maybe I've annoyed him too, I don't know.

Sticking to topics is another reason why people lose interest - the signing and rumours thread is the best example - not a lot of substance in there and it's probably the most popular thread as we're all keen on reading who the latest potential signing may be, but there's very little quality content in there and every time we ask people to stick to topic, or clean up posts which are just spam, it degrades the very next day.

I spend a lot of time on here and because I delete a lot of posts that either contain swearing or involve personal attacks against other members - and some of those are ban worthy in accordance with the rules. This probably paints a bit of a target on my back because I've been on here a long time.

We have no idea what changes Kul has in store for the forum. It would certainly be nice to know as this thread has already generated a decent amount of comment and I think all members on here would like to continue to be a part of the forum moving forward. Let's see what the future holds, hopefully Kul can shed some light on that soon.

Honestly, that's a bunch of pearl clutching rubbish with a side of passive aggressive for Kul.

Who do you think you are protecting from swear words? or threads going off topic? How many actual DM's have you got from someone complaining about a swear word vs how many people have literally left the forum because it has become stagnant and ridged.

Threads being "derailed" is another prime example of over moderation. If people are talking about Brooks in the signings thread its because there are no signings. Very simple. If Wests make a signing the conversation comes back to the signing BUT what I think you are missing is in the interim, the thread has interaction and kept people posting.

If people want specific details only go follow Wests twitter and wait for news.

No racists / homophobic or doxing. the rest will work it self out. If someone can't handle that then maybe the internet is not for them or they can go start safeplacewestforum.com.

I have a slightly different opinion.

There are plenty of places to go and discuss the Tigers. LU, FB, Reddit, Demps Discord and probably others. What made this place a bit different was it was better behaved and more civil than the others.

Wests Tigers are a football team and as a result and loved and followed by a lot of kids. My kids were on this forum. I dont see the problem with having a reasonable standard that can include fans of all ages and genders for that matter. **We just successfully chased out the only female on the forum.**

Why not have the standards kept here as a point of difference from LU/FB/Reddit/Discord? Why be like all the others? So you can swear?

We? I have no idea of what or who you are talking about. To be honest I don't care. ***What's gender got to do with footy chat?***

Its got nothing to do with the subject of the chat, but surely the forum is a better place with a diversity of people and views making a contribution? Or should this just be an echo chamber of all blokes with the same background, thoughts and opinions? We already have the Luke Brooks thread for that.

>Stop making drama where there is none.

I'm making drama? I misinterpreted this thread as a discussion of what is wrong with the forum and suggestions for what could be done to improve it. An hour ago you made a very well expressed and eloquent post expressing everything that YOU thought was wrong with the forum and what needed to be fixed but because my opinion of what is wrong and needs to be fixed is different to yours....I'm "making drama".

That kind of call out is a big part of what I dislike about this forum lately.

You made a point and said the poster was chased out of the forum without providing detail or context. ***To make it more provocative*** you made sure to mention it was a she. ***You also included everyone, like there was a collective effort to "chase her out"***. This is creating drama.

Mate, with respect you are projecting massively and fighting things that are not there. I wasnt trying to make anything provocative or creating drama. I was talking about the fact that having higher standards with regards to swearing and behaviour makes the place a more attractive and suitable place for a wider range of people including kids and women and it just so happened to be at the time (coincidence) that the only active female poster here left.

I didnt add detail because it was pretty public at the time and I try to keep posts short of War and Peace, but for context the detail on her leaving **is she got into an argument with a few here. She was not blameless, she definitely played her part and in the end she decided that she wasnt enjoying being here anymore and she left. As I say, she wasnt blameless and IMO she made a mistake** in one post but she has been an active and valuable contributor here for along time and as the only active female poster it was the first time I can remember that it was a problem.

Again, Im not making a point about her and not making drama. Simply stating that by having a good standard of behaviour here, we can make it accessible to a wider range of people.

Again, I have know idea on why the women left but if she was harassed for her gender, of course this is not on and there should be repercussions. If she left because she didn't like a posters opinion...ce la vie.

She wasnt harassed for her gender, she didnt leave because she didnt like the posters opinion. She left because of the change in the tone of this place and I understand it frankly. She had been here a long time and was a regular and good contributor.

Huh...So she wasn't chased out hey? She had a disagreement. May have been wrong. May have been right but made the decision to leave. Ok. See how that's a bit different to what you wrote in context to the discussion in the thread?

Look, you seem like a good kid who got something wrong. It happens. How about you go back and delete that from your posts and we move on?

Well said @hank37w ,
The forum has finally agreed to confront the irresponsible, this decision for me means that we can stop worrying about those people, they are those people who have that constant negative attitude, but they now might be able to grow up by being forced to think and say something about someones post instead of just downvoting it because of their weird personal reasons.

It seems to me that in your efforts to win an argument with me, you may be missing the point I'm making and inadvertently strengthening my point.

My original post that you are referencing doesnt say anything about the disagreement. My post is totally about the change in the tone of the place, the aggressive argumentative environment that has risen here and specifically my original post was about behaviour standards here, not that specific argument. By we I mean we, all of us, not the people in that particular disagreement. WE have created an atmosphere/environment/culture that compelled/chased/caused/convinced (chose your own verb) the only active female here to leave. It means nothing that she is female (it just meshed with the point I was making) but the same thing has also caused a number of other longer term posters to do the same. I recently took a break from here for the same reason.

If you want to get into semantics, no pitchforks were involved, but I firmly stand by my comments.

Look, you seem like a good kid who got something wrong. It happens. How about you go back and delete that from your posts and we move on?

Will I get a pat on the head?

With all due respect, Kul has disabled the upvote/downvote function because people have abused the privilege of it. This is not something the moderators control, nor was it suggested by us, so if people want to make a mockery of the system, they can, and have. You may deem it to be trivial, others clearly have not which has led to this.

Hopefully all the alcho's at the telecrap have read and digested every word in this thread looking for a scoop,it should make for an interesting headline.

The rules have been bent the last 6 months though. Hasn’t made the place any better. I feel like some just want to swear for the sake of it. Just because they can. Probably why a lot them run to Discord.

From what I've seen on discord the main reason people head there is to do with the double standards when it comes to moderation.

Some people here are serial agitators who love nothing more than to rile people up. They hardly ever post their own opinions on topics, every second post is having a go at someone else's opinion. People are fed up with these guys getting off scott free from the mods while the guy who react to these agitators cops a ban.

Most people just want an open and friendly place to shoot the breeze and discuss the Wests Tigers. Most people are happy to have a bit of back and forward banter. Some light hearted disagreements and blow ups.

This place as a result of these double standards and favouritism has become far too emotional. As a result the moderation has become heavy handed and draconian, killing the fun and banter that a forum needs to keep people interested.

Even now people think this is about swearing and downvotes lol. It's nothing of the sort. The down votes only became a problem when the issues that have been mentioned and in some other posts above started to mess things up.

We did ban one of the instigators of the so called baiting of other forum users to led to them being banned but it was subsequently lifted by the site administrator .. not much the moderators can do about that.

You've only been on the forum for a hot minute. Have been banned already. Have made the Covid thread unreadable and then post blatant mistruths in this thread. If I was to do a poll of posters people want to hear less from you'd be right up there but you say " we" have created this environment. Interesting.

Well done, you've made an exclusive lists of people I block. For a long time it was one, now he has a roommate.

It's a function I recommend people use.

I've enjoyed this thread, especially these aspects
1 - tough guy overreactions, reacting to ... overreaction
2 - people complaining about people who were complaining

I used to post multiple times a day on here but over the last few months I feel the forum has been almost hijacked by a few incredibly negative posters who want to criticise the club, players and fellow forum members nonstop. I post rarely now but still read some threads. I don’t believe in over moderation but if this place is going to remain civil, constructive and positive it needs moderators who have the temerity to moderate consistently to a standard.

Couldn't agree more. I've been trying not to repsond to the death riders, instead letting downvotes do the work when I think someone is throwing their toys out of the cot. It means I don't get in an argument but let my disagreement be known.
I'd like the both down and up votes to stay.

Nothing's changed.
Bless you guys

PJ, swearing is not on thanks. That has been made very clear, and your continued derided attacks against me are also not appreciated thanks. Please post constructively as I am sure Kul intended for this thread. If you have particular issue with me, take it up with me privately.

Youre twisting things and then playing dumb or naive you know exactly whats going on
The female in question left for false accusations against others.
Youre saying we chased her away = drama
