Rabbitohs ace forced out....

inglis, burgess and now roberts.. clearly souths are bending the rules somewhere somehow

never seen a man medically retire and then wanting to play origin the year after

I only see 3 options:
1. NRL is turning a blind eye
2. Souths have found some type of a loophole somewhere
3. Bennet is the greatest man manager of all where he can make players believe that letting go of 500K is actually good for them

Compare all this to our Farah situation where we got fined and suspended for gaining absolutely NO ADVANTAGE whatsoever. We are either super amateur or NRL is trying to push us out.

I vote super amateur.

Once again the scum are offloading players to pay for a player that we were after in first place (LM). Why are we even mentioned in helping these clowns, its just not good business to help a direct competitor when they are in crisis of their own making, a crisis they created by outbidding us on players, that we were after and JAC is still linked to them by the way. Wayne must be getting ready to leave, watch their salary cap implode just like it did a Bronco's, Saints, Newcastle and Bronco's again. It will only get worse when Arrow gets there.

Disagree. (And for the original post, I don’t think the NRL are incompetent, it’s a deliberate act to let Souths do stuff like this.)
NRL can issue a show cause notice to Souths, making them prove to the NRL what Roberts had done wrong to make the contract void. Cancelling it for mental health reasons is not a valid reason, they should not be allowed to cancel the contract.

I'm pretty sure NRL doesn't have any jurisdiction to prevent a club and player from mutually dissolving an agreement.

NRL can refuse to register a contract, but that does not apply here. They can force monies to contribute to Souths' salary cap.

But Souths aren't claiming Roberts did anything to void his contract, Souths are claiming both parties have agreed to walk away from it.

The NRL should not allow such an agreement to be cancelled, even with mutual agreement, without cause showed to the NRL, which they are open and transparent about to the public.

It just screams of more favouritism, bias, and stepping around the cap to sit by and let them do this - again.

Put simply, if the NRL is left like this, we can not compete. Not until we get some sponsors who are happy to similarly side-step the cap.

If there is the possibility of something underhanded, sure investigate, but I see no difference with an injury based retirement. Mental health is just another medical condition and should be treated the same as any debilitating physical injury.

Exactly but it should be put to the NRL to decide if the contract should be cancelled. It should not be a Club decision and then they advise the NRL of what they have done.

The process should be the same as it was for Matulino etc.

His mental health should also be assessed by an independent party nominated by the NRL.

If he is not mentally fit enough to play for Souths he should not have a contract registered by the NRL to play for another club.

If it is lawful to do this - then why can't everyone ?

Eg. We don't want Reynolds, mentally unfit, forgoes his 850k for 2021 ( we have a sponsor that pays him in an agreement, say 700k.) - It comes off our cap - player looks around after a few months, sign with xyz and ends up with a heap of dough for walking away. We have 850k off our cap, sponsor get partly renumerated for part of his commitment for helping out. We all win, except for the game because it is cheating.

Souffs have been doing us over since 1909 and are still doing so.

I always enjoyed watching Roberts play. He is not your stereotypical centre these days, being of moderate dimensions and lightning quick. I'm sorry to see him go.

There is no legal capacity to do that.

All contracts can be terminated by mutual agreement.

In the same vein how do the titans get away with terminating contracts for Boyd and Cartwright? Both in over half a mil a year, and one turns down the care to go pig farming, and the other to play reserve grade for Parra.

Yet Reynolds and Packer are stuck with us. Other clubs seem to find damn good loopholes

I see in this mornings news, ninensm, that Souths have farewelled 7 players before 2021 season...in that 7 is Ethan Lowe he will retire due to a neck injury,Roberts as has been reported,Jack Johns,Corey Dennis,Tom Amone Kurt Dillon And Ky Rodwell..
Dont know much about the other 5,but it must give them some leeway in the cap to purchase players that Bennett needs...
I dare say that the plan would be to get JAC in with the brotherhood..
Im only speculating, but its a bit more realistic to assume JAC goes there and not with us..I hope he does come to us and Souths have to miss out on his services,it would make him look a lot more honourable if he sticks to his HOA with us....

I know we have a JAC thread but this is sort of tied in with that thread...

The Rabbits are ending Corey Allens final year contract to upgrade LM..Allen replaced LM when he was injured this year but is being shopped around.apparently Cronulla,WTs could be interested in Allen...

source wide world of sports staff....ninensm

The Sharks are having 'a red hot crack for Allen' according to a couple if their fans. Yes they have a couple. I felt relieved when I heard because I was worried he would end up at WTs.

The HOA that he was asked about, paused, had a bit of a think and then denied ever having signed?

Generally Heads of Agreements are non-binding unless they involve exclusivity which usually has a set time period.

I think Lee would know if it is binding on not, being a legal eagle and I believe he said it was binding but my concerns would be about the timing. If JAC is now deciding he wished he didn't sign the HOA because of other opportunities, he could be delaying due a time period within the agreement.

However, nobody knows the terms of the HOA so in reality it's impossible to say. It's all speculation so we just have to trust the process and hopefully he is on his way here.

Thanks, a good summary.

The only thing that got me back being interested was he said if Storm let him go we should get excited.

Maybe he didn’t, maybe his manager signed it on his authority?
