Rabbitohs ace forced out....

Have the scummy wabbits confirmed that he's leaving? Or this another media beat up that may or may not be true...

Referring to the Roberts story

Don't rate Corey Allan. Happy to admit he played a few good games back end of 2020, but my opinion is much of that was based upon the excellent form of his inside men as much as anything else. E.g. the Roosters game, which was probably Cody Walker's lifetime-best performance.

I think Corey Allan will be totally found out as a permanent fullback and he's far too slow as a winger.

We are supposed to be recruiting smart and trying to avoid the off-cuts from other clubs.

Big question mark on what Souths do if Latrell goes down again and both Douiehi and Allan have left in consecutive seasons.

Not much of a plan if you get rid of Corey Allan first.

We don't need more backups. Many of our starters the would be backups for other clubs. We need elite talent. And Allan is bog average. Though the fact he's not in massive coin will help get more interest.

He is so bang average. Rabbits have the luxury of the rest of their spine being so good, it’s not hard for someone to fill in and do a job which is really all Allen did. No stand out games and is no better than douehi at the back. Hard pass and will be very disappointed if we pick him up

Not a fan. He's a fill in, offers less than Mbye and AD at fullback.

Looked okay in a quality team, and even Bennett moved him from fullback in periods of the finals.

Roberts released on compationate grounds
That will do me
So he throws away what, $350'000 to $400,000 to go to rehab for a month
Yeah that makes alot of sense
Its a great financial move
Must have got some financial advice from souths on that one
Why wouldn't South sydney stand by their man and help him through this
Instead they release him as if to say we don't want you anymore your on your own
Don't they have a well being officer at the club
Talk about turfing a player out when he is down
Where is the press on that one
If the Nrl stand by and allow this to happen without still having cap implications then it will show that nothing has changed and they are still run by an incompetent group of men.
Many of us are becoming sick of the way this nrl is run and how they see things with one eye shut
It really is getting way beyond a joke
I wonder is josh needs time away from the game
Can we release him

Whilst I agree with you, technically there is nothing the NRL can do?

No, he throws away 550k just because he needs some time to himself. His last big paycheck, gone. Sorry, not a chance in hell that happens.

Disagree. (And for the original post, I don't think the NRL are incompetent, it's a deliberate act to let Souths do stuff like this.)

NRL can issue a show cause notice to Souths, making them prove to the NRL what Roberts had done wrong to make the contract void. Cancelling it for mental health reasons is not a valid reason, they should not be allowed to cancel the contract.

It wouldn't be hard to make Souths not be allowed to do stuff like this. Make them honour the contract, make it count on their cap.

For the cases where mental health has resulted in players having extended time away from the game (maybe it does genuinely happen sometimes), add in a proviso that a team can have an amount added to their cap to make up for the time the payer had off. Like when a player is injured for 3/4 of the year, a team can request a discount to buy another player, do it like that, but the player must have 3/4 of the year off due to mental health reasons, and the club can only apply after the 3/4 of a year has passed.

It could still be manipulated I am sure, but it would be harder for teams to 'do a Souths'.

If there is the possibility of something underhanded, sure investigate, but I see no difference with an injury based retirement. Mental health is just another medical condition and should be treated the same as any debilitating physical injury.

I agree that mental health should be taken seriously but this is not a retirement

Roberts is 27 yrs old, mental health issues/disorders can be treated, no doctor in the world would say a mental health issue will last the person the next 6 years and can not be improved upon with treatment. Unless that doctor is employed by Souths.

This stinks of wroughting. So South's are releasing him to sort out his mental health problems and the.meduthe.media are talking about what clubs will take him on. Absolute joke. If Roberts has mental health issues under contract to South's they should not be releasing him but supporting him through it - that includes honouring his contract. Just like when players are injured. He is not walking away from the game no suggestion of that.
