What gets my goat is all of us are basically being pushed into feeding our whole way of life to operate in the modern world via gigs. The system is soft and full of holes ,which in floods or fires (had more of our fare share hear in the last 5 years ,especially 20 -23 1/2) just collapses when the power is cut to homes, Not happy Jan .rant over .peace out. Any words of wisdom to sooth my brain would be appreciated lol
Youre probably have FTTN which has battery backup in case of a power outage . Your internet would have been powered at 830, with the complete restoration of power of the whole area at 1030.( that’s when they would have closed the job off ) .
It’s not full of holes . The reality is people stopped using landline around 2010. Your mobile phone does all the heavy lifting in 2025 . As for what was going on with your mobile , if the towers are down because of a natural disaster they’ll run generators to the huts . Depending on how remote you are , will obviously depend on how quickly someone can get there to run it off a generator before the batteries die . Also the bigger the hut, the bigger the generator required which usually means it’s harder to resource and locate .
So a sparky will have to be engaged to go . Locate a generator - that could mean going to thier warehouse , or could mean going to Coates or wherever , the get on the road to your site . Time to setup , access issues etc . Sometimes it’s not unheard of for the initial outage to have been 24hrs prior to someone actually getting onsite .
And as for natural disasters , or whole town outages etc. the towers are priority number 1.
People can’t teleport to you mate , and there’s not someone sitting around waiting to spring into action , like a fireman going down a pole.
I always say to people , as harsh as it is , the best thing about being remote is your away from every one else, the worst thing about being remote is your away from everyone else .
Also for anyone else reading this it’s frustrating when people compare aus to any other country as if they’re comparable .
People bring up Korea or Europe , yet the topology and geography of that places is nothing to Aus. Mountains preventing line of sight , remote areas that are desolate , long rugged bushland between towns , weather that changes in an instant . Most countries don’t experience this , and as such the complexity of what is required to maintain thier network isn’t even a fraction of what Australia’s is . Sure some dum dums about 10 years ago set the country back a decade , but as we roll in to the 2030s most of that will get overbuilt . Especially now Rupert has sold foxtel.
