Raiders sign Tedesco - Official

Can't deny him the money, but as a supporter, it is very extremely disappointing.

He may be with us for 2014, but I see him as a Raider now. Used to love him, now he can go to hell.

**Pick him as 18th man for each match for the rest of the year, let him sit on the bench and see what he is missing out on. I wish him nothing but poor form and wooden spoons.**

Agree. He won't be playing his heart out for us anymore, he will have one eye on next year

Can't blame him for taking the money can't blame the club for not paying that sought of money.Put him in state cup as he is no longer part of our future and that's what we need to build on.
Something good will come out of this.Imagine if he had been laid that money, Brooks and co would be spewing.Great call once again Mayer and co.

Good luck to Tedesco!! At $1.9 million over 3 years I can't blame him for leaving and in my opinion Canberra will only get good value from Tedesco IF he :-

a. fulfills his potential
b. remains uninjured for the duration of his contract; and
c.maintains his current form.

They are 3 very big IF's.

In my opinion Ricky has paid overs for Tedesco, and the Tigers did that right thing in not trying to match $600,000 + a year. Sad to see him go, but it will free up some cash for other recruitment.

My final piece on this saga.

James Tedesco has proven Rugby league for some is a business.

That certainly is how at the ripe old age of 21 James sees the game.. Remember Ayoub is responsible for negotiating the offers he has had to digest, at the end of the day it is James Tedesco who makes the call.. I wish him well at the Raiders…

What I am peeved is all the rhetoric Tedesco threw at us during the 3 month contract negotiations...the B.S. about playing with his mates and wanting to stay at the club, how he values being a local Junior etc...etc...That really peeves me how Tedesco strung along the fans, his mates and the club!. with hindsight, it is clear that was a load of crap!. He simply is motivated by $$$ only and money only..had he said that from the outset everyone would have been clear what outcome he is REALLY seeking.... I have no doubt Mayer and the WT did everything they could to keep Tedesco....We obviously fought off approaches by the Roosters and then the Bulldogs to sign him...but we could not beat out the Raiders offer....

Clearly, Tedesco does not believe in loyalty...The WT have supported him for 8 years developing him along the way and supporting his during his long period of rehab...This means very little to him.. The Raiders offer of $650-$800k p.a. is based on potential only as James has not had a proven NRL career to be in the top tier of paid players in the NRL.....I mean 41% availability I hope James delivers more for the Raiders in that area than he has for the WT over the last 2.5 years!!..(i’m sure Sticky has his fingers and toes crossed too)..

Moving forward, Mayer and Potter need to make the hard call..James has decided he does not want to be part of our future..he should spend the rest of the year in NSW Cup. We CAN win games without Tedesco...our key player is not Tedesco but Brooks and Farah...and once we sort out the 5/8 mess our attacking options and flow will only improve WITHOUT Tedesco...We should either make a call to develop Rowe or chose Simona/Nofo as our long term fullback. We should develop them the rest of this year and the future...With the $500k we saved on Tedesco we should upgrade the contracts of Gavet and co... and sign a quality back which we can get for $350-$400k..

I’m glad this is all over....Tedesco should be prepared to cop heaps of verbals from the WT fans over the rest of the year and in my opinion deservedly so....Good luck James...somehow I think you will have seconds thoughts about your decision over the next 3 years!.

Game over!

Totally agree. Hopefully this csh can now tie up Gavet and others like him as well as another back/fb

i see this as a positive as well… Teddys NRL career wont be a long one.. has BAD knees, BAD ankles and the biggest of the lot, Now a BAD coach... And now leaves the Tigers with 500k to spend on two quality players.

Tigers were smart not to pay for something that is uncertain

First time I have done this but I will be very disappointed if Tedesco gets picked again this year.

This club should not invest any more time in his development.

development can go to hell. NRL is a business. we need to win games to make finals and teddy gives us the best chance in doing so.

It's funny how people blame the club for Tedesco leaving and for not signing him last year when he could have been signed for cheap.

Fact is Tedesco was approached by the club and was advised by his manager to hold out and put himself out on the market and see what he is worth.

Put simply, Tedesco had 2 choices, stay at the tigers, play for a smart coach, win a comp, play for NSW, Australia and most importantly, his mates and be a tiger for life before finishing off a Stella career and be seen as a tigers legend with the likes of Farah while being on an average contract.

The alternative, play for a coach who is a proven train wreck and a club that has been a disaster since the late 90's. No chance of playing for NSW or Australia and be that guy everyone forgot about while being on too dollar.

Obviously he cares more about money than his legacy.

Good luck to him.

Agreed. He could have been part of something special. Might as well leave him in reggies and start focusing on our future fullback.

I disagree

Play him in every game and maximise our chances of winning each week.

For the record, I am disappointed but wold have told my kids to do the same

Firstly I would like to say, i am very disappointed in tedesco going. Secondly well done Mayer for not falling into the trap like previous management and CEO'S at the Tigers and paying massive overs for lets face it, a 21 year old kid who has played 25 odd games out of 70.

Yeah he had talent and potential, but he has got to show this year in year out like a Farah, Smith, Slater etc. Personally, looking beyond the disappointment of the whole situation I am glad he is going, obviously he is after the money and has no pride and passion for the jersey he plays for.

What was most disappointing tho were the lies that he fed the supporters stating he wanted to stay and money would not be a factor, what a load of BS. I think Tedesco is in for a hard learning curve, he can basically kiss goodbye future rep jerseys playing for a crap coach, and behind very average forwards and hopeless half's. To top this off, if his form is mediocre the supporters will start to call for his head, especially on the cash he is to get. (Look at the Blair and T-Rex situation)

Looking to the positives of the entire outcome, and yes there is positives and lots of them. We can now re sign the likes of Thompson, Gavet, Simona, Ava and really secure the majority of the squad for years to come.

We do not have a player on a huge chunk of the cap, that hinders future retention and recruitment in a huge way, and every time he runs we cross our fingers and hope he does not re injure himself long term. Hopefully we can really develop the likes of Rowe, Abou Sleiman and Moses in the coming 12 months.

I think Rowe can improve for the rest of the year, in the off season put some much needed size on and become a very good fullback. I think if the club is not thinking this way and want to try and recruit a fullback maybe we should have a crack at Hoffman. Especially if Bennett leaves the Knights and go's to the broncos, one would think his love child Darius Boyd would follow. This might allow Hoffman to be released.

I know it is disappointing but heads up everyone, the club has a bright future with all the youngsters we have already re signed and the ones still coming through. And my final bit, i would personally drop Tedesco. Make him 18th man for every game. I do not see the point in developing Tedesco further, as this will only benefit the Raiders. Plus it will enable us to show faith and allow Rowe to grow in confidence!

At last the club is making the right moves for the future , Good luck to $edesco and I hope the money makes him happy . Now the club has extra $$$ to replace him and hopefully keep a few others, one player doesn't make a club and especially a player with that type of loyalty your better of with out him.
I,m sure Coach Potter and Mayer will find a very suitable replacement ,and $edesco should play out his contract even though I will cringe seeing him OUR club colours.

You can bag out the sheens management as much as you like. But they would never have let this happen!!!!

A JOKE!!

Sorry, mate, but I think this post is a joke…

Sheen's management wouldn't have had us in the ballpark money wise for Tedesco or a stack of our other juniors... If Sheens was still in charge we would've wasted 1 million dollars a year on Benji.

Secondly, you seem to forget that Sheens was the man who let Fafita go but signed Utai!

Massively disappointed. Tedesco is a special talent. He will still go on to earn rep honours, but will have to do so without his long time club mates, and in a team that will struggle at least for a while. But he will make it.

BUT

This talk about playing him in reggies etc is crazy. As this episode has shown, NRL is a business. As such I want our team to win as many games as they can, whenever they can, and the best way to do that this year will be with Tedesco in the #1\. I'm sure the club officials from the top down to the coach would also feel the same.

Can not blame him 4 the money!!!

But I blame our recruitment team, why is it that nofo, siro, koro and tedesco were not signed last year when they would have been alot alot cheaper to buy!!!!!
They wait until it is open slather and then try to compete, guess what the price goes up!!!!
Blind freddy could tell that these players had it and were going to be regular first graders!!

lol you wanna sign up blokes long term when they have a year and a half to go on their contract?

You can bag out the sheens management as much as you like. But they would never have let this happen!!!!
>
A JOKE!!

how exactly would they not let that happen?
would the sheens management have managed to sign him up last year? would they have offerred better contract this year? or would he have let him have a bigger say in the gym orientation?

Man I am just gutted….Beyond words...

The next 10 years was meant to be the Brooks and Tedesco show.

now we go back to years more of the usual tigers programming "Dances with Nuffies."
