Rankin or JAC moving forward

my ex-first grade mate reckons that Rankin is not first grade material??

There's a few in this squad that aren't f.g. material…....but they are all we have got ATM...
Wait until we have an influx of cash and see how we spend it...

JAC without any doubt whatsoever. He is a natural finisher and possesses skill and pace Rankin simply does not have. Anyone choosing Rankin isn't being objective.

Addo-Carr the better finisher purely based on speed.

Running out from the 20m line….I will go Rankin. Addo-Carr does not run with a good body height and gets driven backwards. That actually kills our set - it happened a few times in the second half last night.

Yes, Addo-Carr scored and awesome try from his own 20m, but that was a 1/100 play.

Comparing Rankin and JAC is like comparing Usain Bolt and Oprah…
JAC all the way. We know what we have with Rankin. There's just so much upside and potential with JAC. Wait until he has a few years under Bellamy and packs on a few KGs.
Is it too late for him to back out of his deal I wonder?

Rankin gets lower to the ground as is trying to hit a hole and drop on kick returns which is far more effective

JAC is way too upright on kick returns and as Gary said , I bet you don't see JAC do that again at NRL level in 2016

He will save it for when we play the Tigers next season :bawling

Rankin is being played out of position and doing an OK job , you'd think some on here expect him to approach the coaching staff and say he doesn't want the spot or would like to retire

I'd go option 3 if we could and start developing Heleta for that spot , but the salary cap constraints would probably say no go

Addo-Carr got man-handled like I haven't since since Shannon McDonnell. He must have been pushed back 5m every time he got tackled. I reckon it came from firing up the Bulldogs pack when he acted like a mug before scoring his try.
Also, I noticed a couple of times that Simona made a break and was looking for support down the wing but JAC was nowhere to be found.

Rankin's mistakes came from playing fullback - something he won't be required to do again this year (touch wood). I'd still have him ahead of JAC on the wing for now.

Rankin ahead of JAC on the wing? Are u serious? That is hilarious. I'm glad you're not a selector then.

We have major issues on both edges. I think MCK needs to come in for Kev at right centre to sure that side up defensively. Rankin is no winger & JAC despite being lightening quick just gets dominated too often. On the left I'd move Simona back to the wing & give either Rankin, Heleta or Peni a chance at centre. I think Rankin would go well putting Simona away, Heleta would be a good strong runner of the footy & then Peni is prob the best option defensively.

I think he might be, because that is who they usually go with. :bash

Same Tigers fans on the forum would nit pick Koiribete's game like they do JAC claiming he is not up to it.

He has got SPEED and you cant coach that.

Bellamy is a decent judge of a footballer and he will do with Addo Carr what he did with Koribete whilst we stick with the toilers.

What else do you want a winger to offer??

No offence Sabre but I am backing Craig Bellamy's judgement of a footballer.

So besides Addo-Carr's pace what else does he have to offer?

Nothing really currently

But it's hard to argue be won't learn more and develop better at Melbourne than with us …though you can be sure bellamy wont put up with him carrying on like a prize flog on the way to the tryline like he did last night

His decision... Not the clubs as some like to portray

Strong kick returns, safe under high ball, sound finishing.

JAC's got speed to burn but man he goes missing in-game. Apart from the obvious getting smashed in kick-returns, he was lagging behind play often. When we needed a late try he was nowhere to be seen, which is poor from an "attacking weapon".

And sure Bellyache is a great coach, but we can name plenty of Melbourne signings that didn't work out: Arana Taumata, Maurice Blair, Junior Moops, Joe Romelo, George Rose, Junior S'au, Lagi Setu, Siosaia Vave, Luke Kelly, Jaiman Lowe etc. Just coz he signed them doesn't mean they are good footballers.

JAC scores better than Rankin in the latter two, and is the equal in the former. Rankin got belted and driven back several times on Saturday as well, and submits to dominant tackles on just about every carry.
It's a flawed option whichever way we go:
1) JAC, incredibly raw, but with some good instincts and ridiculous speed. Very little benefit to developing him as he's off to the Storm in about 8 minutes.
2) Rankin, a half/FB who is struggling in the NRL full stop, let alone playing out of position.
3) Hunt, more or less a career reserve grader.

.

JAC was passed the ball once all game. Hard to say he goes missing if we refuse to run any backline plays through his hands whatsoever… He's criminally underused by the team. He also went in to take a hit up once and made an 80m break to score a great try. Something which only Teddy in our squad is capable of.

He needs to learn how to position his body better when making hitups off our line, but he's a small guy so will of course get pushed back by 3-4 defenders when they gang up on him and he's got no-one to support him.
