Live Game Discussion
If it’s so well known, and so obvious, then why can’t we get it right?
Hope doesn’t need to outsmart the defences. He needs to give good clean service to Luai and Madden and make his tackles.
Same goes for all of them. We don’t want people impersonating the guys they replaced. Just do your job without screwing up.Error free, good discipline and make your tackles.
It is up to the experienced guys still in the side to step up and drive wins.
I think he tries to. Mason tries, Herbert tries, Madden tries. In most teams you can have 1 or 2 of these guys who can do a job and rely on the talent around them (like Madden earlier in the year). When you have 5 or 6 of guys of these callibre on the field at once, thats a problem. Especially with the pace of the game now. Those less talented stick out more than ever

I think we have worked hard on getting our top 17 right, the next stage will be 18-30.

sadly no team has the cattle to account for 5-6 key players out,
The back 13 in your roster are playing reserve grade for a reason, not good enough or thick as pigshit.

The exception is your good young players coming off development about to transition to 1st grade quality.

Have enough of them and younger ones coming through your system and you're cooking with gas, no reason that we don't get there eventually.

Of course they can’t. Falling in a heap though is very different to not being able to compete.
In some ways we are lucky we played who we did these past 3 weeks.
Had it been 3 games in a row of teams who are performing at a high level this year, we would have copped three 60+ results.
That’s not good enough.
I actually think all 3 teams will be there at the pointy end give or take Melbourne. I think their 7 game losing streak may just be a bit too much

Yes no doubt.
Injuries have been very cruel and their timing ordinary.
That said, our discipline, defence and handling have fallen from a cliff.
If these last 3 sides we fielded completed their sets and stopped schoolboy errors, than the fatigue, pressure and inevitable infringements wouldn’t be so high leading to break down in defence and floggings.

This next transition will be important, we’ve had a good flegg team for the past few years, hopefully some kids are pushing for top 30 spots to replace under performers

Maybe so, but Sharks weren’t playing well at the time and Storm were woefully out of form. Manly were the only side playing good footy coming into our game.
Despite that, they scored 25 tries between them against us.

What you say is all well and good in theory but they are not automatons. You can lead a horse to water etc. You can drill and drill and drill but if your player isnt confident or experienced or skilled enough to enact the drilled activity in real time game conditions you still end up with mud. It is also a team sport of non automatons and if you happen to be a highly skilled player next to a relatively unskilled player your level of trust will not be the same. Knowing you have to cover for a reserve grader adds to your overall fatigue over time. Yes next man up should work. If your next man has a sufficient skill level to accomplish the role he's been trained for.

If he doesn’t, than that is the clubs fault.

Praying it happens, the next men up we have at the moment just aren't cutting the mustard.

It's pleasing the reports by our forum clever dicks who are all over the junior grades, a lot been mentioned as quality.

Yep our leaders and more experienced players have seriously let us down. No amount of "next man up mentality" by our coaches and ressies will fix the simple errors made by our supposedly better players, thats why the phrase has irked me the last few weeks.

Does anyone actually watch that Matty Johns tripe after the games on Sunday? They all pump it up on Fox like it’s the best thing since sliced bread, but I just can’t come at those blokes, Johns, Hindmarsh and Fletcher. They giggle and carry on like a bunch of morons. Juvenile schoolboy humour at its worst. Time to grow up dickheads, you’re not 16 anymore.

That is a truism. The hiring and training of all players is the clubs responsibility. I'm just saying that, from my perspective, for the most part it is the hiring that needs to improve. The first 17 seem to be trained well enough, their replacements just aren't up to it.
We’ve just completed a solid round of retentions with a couple of more big ones which look likely. That’s the first true indication that the club is turning a corner and should enable us to attract and retain better depth players on lower value contracts. Maybe it won’t, but I believe we have come a long way from the dark old days of consecutive wooden spoons. As frustrating as it is, Rome wasn’t built in a day.

I can take them in extremely small doses.
Yes though, they carry on like children which is a bit embarrassing at their ages.

The first two tries vs Manly were very frustrating. First- halves not kicking, rushed kick that is off the side of the boot. Only short and to the open side where the equal fastest player in the competition gets it in open space. Yes, we had chances to tackle him but never should have been it that position.

Try 2 - Lets give the other equal fastest player on the comp space on the outside to run around us (first by the winger and then by the fullback).

Yes, we are depleted, and yes some of the refs decisions were bad, however those first two tries were poor match awareness by us

At the conclusion of a dreadful round of football (imho) only 1 match out of 8 was a true contest the other 7 were 20+ hidings.I know i am biased but that is not good for the game and i would be saying the same thing even if we had won.

I like defence and close games a real arm struggle going set for set until someone breaks I find it enthralling and can not look away but some of the rubbish this year is very below average

I am a little worried about Origin with the new rules this year the blow out it's a concern but more importantly I could see players getting hurt with long term injuries so much fatigue and wear on the players dangerous contacts and swinging arms especially from Lattrell if he's playing could take someones head off late in the game or some of his dirty lazy plays coming out
