Interesting that 2 teams who won their premiership in the same fashion i.e. they were crappy for most of the season then came home with a winning run that no team could seem to stop, are the only 2 that could not back up to make the finals the following year. Both teams also had an outstanding individual performance in the GF by one player (Benji & Walsh).

Their premiership wins were flukey and I think it shows by them not being able to back it up the following season. Ours was definitely a time in history when all the stars and planets aligned and the Broncos should never have made it to the GF anyway! Canberra won that Semi 3 times and no one will convince me otherwise.
 
Just looking at the ladder, with the Dogs/Manly losing on the weekend and Cowboys/Rabbits winning, the Top 8 is pretty close to locked in, even 4 week out (which is unusual)?

Dogs have 10 wins, 4 matches to go. Cowboys and Knights both have 12 wins, with a bye to come, and Knights have today's match also in hand.

Dogs have Souths (crucial match), Dragons, Panthers and Broncos to come. You would back them probably in only 2 of those, which would only be enough to pull them alongside Cowboys and Knights if both those sides don't win another match.

So realistically Dogs could only hope to catch Souths, who are on 11W - and they play each other next week.

Manly are a win further behind Dogs and surely can't make up the difference (Dolphins, Knights, Dragons Warriors to come - i.e. 3 Top 8 sides).
 
Raiders have hit back with two quick tries before Dom Young sprinted down the right hand touch line to set up a try for Ponga. It is great to watch a winger with genuine pace in full flight. Score is 18 to 12 Knights' way.
