Realistic effect of coaching changes

Mr Sheens and co was also the catalyst for back ending contracts and paying players to play for other Clubs..I still think Gibbs is getting paid..jks..but you get the point..

Yes he was the best coach we ever had and I doubt anyone else would have got us that premiership ..but his legacy screwed the pooch.

The thing that kills us is a run of 5,6,or 7 losses on the trot. If we avoid that we will go alright, I can see us sneaking in.

@Harvey Sheens got who he wanted .....unfortunately they weren't who we needed

We didn't have a great deal of luck with Sheens though .... we lost arguably the best backrower in the game through homesickness and another through career ending injury , potentially the best centre in the game with injury , a wife basher who was starting to get his game together , Keefy was a potential SOO prop but had continual injuries , Moltzen had 3 ACL's from memory , Tuiaki ....the list went on

I often think about Tim Sheens' coaching, never getting the Tigers to be a tough side but certainly an innovator and out-of-box thinker.

Even with personal bias I don't think I've seen a more entertaining attacking organisation in the NRL era than Tigers 2005-2011. We should realistically have won at least 1 comp in 2010-2011, but for a few bits of bad luck and generally high-quality opposition in those seasons as well.

The team that beat Raiders in the semi 2010 - Brown, Tuqiri, Ayshford, Lawrence, Ryan, Marshall, Lui, Gibbs, Farah, Galloway, Payten, Ellis, Heighington, Fulton, Fifita, Dwyer, Fitzy. Great team! And some of those blokes at the peaks of their careers.

I've said it a lot ....talking of football Gods smiling ...but wouldn't it have been great to have Tuqiri and Tuiaki on the flanks

Bulldogs just dropped 3 players.
Broncos dropped 2 stars.
Neither teams have apt replacements.
Yet the thought of Tigers dropping 3 regularly underperforming players gets met with lame excuses.
That’s what it is. Excuses.

@bigsiro The problem with this is that the coach has been dropping players left, right and centre. He didn't play Reynolds at the start of the season and didn't take the easy option of playing him on the bench. Nofo is in reserve grade. Packer is in reserve grade. ET has been dropped this year.

The coach is dropping players. I think your issue is dropping players that you want dropped. Brooks clearly can't be dropped and there is no way I would drop Mbye. Marsters could be dropped but he is one of the only players in our backline that looks to have the ability to make a break plus he is our goal kicker.

So far I think Madge has been really good.

I'd have Katoni Staggs in my team apt replacement for Roberts who's heart seems to be with Unca Wayne ..good defender...Seibold also dropped a winger I guess...that'll help..I note their biggest underperformers Darius Boyd and Anthony Milford are still in the team..

I only see that Pay dropped Ogden back to reserves and elevated Sauaso Sue to the bench..they probably on a par..with Foran tipped to possibly come back early from injury..who else did he drop...?

@Earl
Fair enough.
Yes I want Brooks dropped. Only because the poor form he shows is not new, he is a poor player. He is in is not a slump - this is just him.

Mbye might deserve another chance I suppose but if he was dropped I wouldn't complain. It would mean he is also accountable.

But Marsters, please! He HAS to be dropped. Ability to make a break? Really? He has scored one try all season, which is also the time he made his one and only line break; 5 metres out from the line. He may have the ability, but he is horribly out of any first grade form. His kicking is completely unreliable and no better than Benji's.

This is what I mean by excuses.

@Geo
Lewis, Holland Martin all dumped by Pay.

I love how Broncos drop one the leagues best kickers due to playing form (which isn't even THAT bad) but our fans want to keep Marsters in because he is our kicker (despite being a crap kicker who is in terrible form).

Choice supportive bias is rife here. People would rather continue with the incumbent and lose games horribly rather than admit they made an error of judgement and that change IS needed.

ET, Packer, Reynolds and Noffa in reserves. Does any of this register at all?

If you're just trying to dance around saying you want Brooks dropped, just say it, instead of sprouting nonsense.

Surely the coach Maguire can see this then..we don't pick the team..he does..?

@GNR4LIFE
I reckon I've said that enough, certainly not dancing around it. Just decided not to harp on about Brooks again here.
(You're welcome):innocent:
It is more re Marsters. Are you also defending his selection?
I really want us to start winning again, so based purely on form, I don't agree with dropping Reynolds when he has certainly been no worse that Brooks. But I dare not raise that......
I just think that accountability should be for all players. Don't you?

It's pretty hard to defend Marsters. My only counter argument is do we have anyone better ? I can't defend his efforts this season and his role is a pretty simple one. Run it hard. Make your tackles. Don't make dumb mistakes. He is failing at all of these roles. His ball security is poor. His defence is terrible.

He is the guy in our backline who might actually make a bust but there is no doubt that he must be close to being labelled a reserve grade player.

@Geo
Absolutely. And this forum is about fans discussing, commenting and questioning on those selections - amongst other things. Long may it continue!

@Geo - don't you ever question team selection?
