It's a sad state of affairs.....think of all the interest they'll be making on that money as well!!!!

Just goes to show that not all charities have the people who needs it best interests at heart.....

Sorry to hear about this.....gets you thinking about who you donate to.....

I'll never donate to the Salvos because they deliver christmas packs to every single inmate at christmas time....some of you might go what's the big deal, but people donate to the Salvos to help those in need, not those locked up.....

I'm prepared to get flamed for my opinion......

I didn't know that.......

Yeah it's not a well known fact......some locations get christmas puddings delivered

But who gonna make the gravy
I bet it won't taste the same
Just add flour, salt, a little red wine
And don't forget a dollop of tomato sauce for sweetness and that extra tang

Give my love to Angus, Frank and Dolly.....

Haha

Love it
My all time fav xmas song

Agreed, it is amazing!

It's a shame that people don't make music like this anymore.....

My fav xmas song is the Fairytale of New York by the Pogues....absolut belter of a song

The show Gavin and Stacey used it for their Christmas Special this year and of course there was faux outrage over it!

Why was there Faux outrage??? Problems with some of the lyrics?

They used the original Lyrics!

Oh Dear the outrage!!!!!

I guess it's why Money for Nothing isn't played on a lot of radio stations in it's original format

Exactly! The interesting thing is the person that line references in Money for Nothing didn't have a problem with it. Mark Knopfler even performed it at his birthday party!

people just love faux outrage.......

Spose Knopfler has made a fortune off that song so who's laughing now??

Sorry to take this thread of topic, as I think this is an important topic and really believe we should all hit up TT's joint and try and support him!

But I do have to mention while discussing this side topic that on google for both the songs Fairytale of New York and Money For Nothing they do not contain the original lyrics to the song and they have been changed!

I agree....but make sure if we do this, we let them know so they have enough there to feed everyone.......

And now I'm faux outraged that these lyrics have been erased from the internet.....if Prince didn't care about being called a big pile of sticks then why should anybody else??

How much is reasonable for a charity to use for admin and overheads?

I reckon a lot of money would go missing or be poorly spent if you put stuck it in the hands of volunteers.

Some of the administration costs associated with these charities are insane. Have a look at this graphic where these costs are represented by 'Cost of Fundraising'.

Tonight on WIN news, the local council has decided to slug the people who lost their homes in the Southern Highlands of NSW $10,000 DA to rebuild their homes..

How low can charities holding back money, now councils charging to rebuid go...

Its beyond belief....kick em while their down...but get their money...

Its situations like this, especially on a weekend where we are a unified country, where all of us have pitched in to help our brothers and sisters, only to let the hierarchy of the communities get rich from our donations ...

Absolutely disgraceful.Every councilor who voted for that should be hung drawn and quartered

Anyone who gives money to a charity thinking that they are helping those in need is a fool. They come a close second behind churches for the abhorrent behaviour of ripping people off. As for councils - they have always ripped people off - but hey people just keep voting for the same clowns. Funny how everyone on here wanted Simona hung and quartered for ripping off a charity. How about voicing the same opinion of the lowlifes who are legally allowed to rip people off at the taxpayers expense.

How the %4#& is the Australian Chamber Orchestra a charitable organisation.

The red cross is a very very corrupt organisation. How do you think dictators, buyoffs and deals are done around the world? The red cross knows how to funnel the cash all over the world under the guise of a red cross banner. 150 year old organisation that rakes in billions of dollars a year around the world and has a very dark underbelly. I can't believe people still give them money. How many more scandals can people forget about over the years? This is just the latest 1 in a very long list, unfortunately most people have the memory of a goldfish and will forget about this next time when they come asking for money, and the cycle continues.

It's disgraceful alright
The council should be sacked
And it wouldn't be the 1st time a council was sacked
It's a money grab by the council clear and simple and they should be ashamed
I can't see how the council will be out of pocket by waving the fees to rebuild a destroyed property
It's not like they are the ones building it
Shame shame shame

Modern emotion summed up in a thread... “Charities are evil...that’s why I don’t donate.”

Firstly. I am so sorry for your circumstances.

Income protection insurance and other insurance products exist to help minimise the impact of situations like this in the future. Infact I note that most people impacted by the bushfires will have insurance that covers the majority of the impact. The rest, I hope that our governments step in with our taxes to get people on their feet again.

I do note that the drought affected farmers were not supported anywhere near as well as our community is responding to bush fire victims. Yet... it’s hard to insure against drought but easy to insure against fire.

That said, your point is fair. Red Cross is way out of line. They are also incredibly inefficient.

Perhaps it will help you to remember Red Cross respond before people give money to crises all over the world. That money doesn’t grow on a tree, it comes from all donations such a these fire donations. Not right perhaps but little kids starving after an earth quake in Turkey celebrate the Red Crosses pragmatic approach.

As an Aussie I naturally want all the money here, but I also get they are in a tough space. It’s better that they have the ability to allocate funds than waste additional funds (not meaning your specific case) by being forced to allocate every cent to the current issue of the day.

I hope you get on your feet soon.

I don’t think any of the insurance you mentioned could have kept Ziggy going. Business interruption insurance maybe?
I’m not an expert in that field either.

I’m not an expert in that field either.

My employer made enquiries regarding business interruption with the insurance co...answer was 'the fire did not burn the premises'hence to them it was no interruption....sad isn't it,he is still trying to get some money out of the donation pool, very difficult at the moment..

My guess is this is your better angle. Insurance companies will be under huge public pressure.

Considering you would of evacuated I’m amazed there was no business interruption. They probably have a slippery definition. The smoke alone would have physically touched the premises.

Remember insurance companies often start with no. A simple search will show you they are accountable to a number of bodies. They are super sensitive so just mention your local MPs name to the claims officer. Post a complaint petition... we will all sign it... you will convince them.
